I reserached this pedal before buying it and found out that Hendrix died in 1970, and this pedal hit the scene in 71. Although hendrix got to play on a prototype, it will make you thing he is playing for you when you plug this into your rig. I play classic rock with this pedal and there is no substitutes, match this to my mexican strat, and my 65' reissue deluxe reverb, and you can smell the 60's. It doesnt really have a mild, it's more of that all out crazy Hendrix distortion, and distorted harmonics. The tone control is a liesaver and can dial in any soudyou need form a Hedrix bass, to a violin like treble. It's very affordable and if I had to trade evey pedal I own, I would for this one.

its still a nice pedal but it feels like its made cheap, the whole body feels so thin and just wants to dent every time you stomp it, and i don't even play that hard. also the tone on mine doesn't really work. The one with tone wicker, you dont get annoyed by playing with the tone.

Sa... Wheat!

By Ryan Sansom

from Cleveland, Ohio

I recently popped into my local GC to see James (who is awesome), and check out a used Phase pedal (which I grabbed), and he suggested I try this bad boy out. I had to have it the second I first heard it. I was wanting to save up for a Fuzz Face, but this pedal is that and much, much more. It gives an insane boost, and the different tones that come out of it are amazing. Extremely diverse pedal, and like mentioned in other reviews, the knobs can be adjusted on the fly with your foot due to the larger size. Also, this must be paired with a Tube Screamer to get the full benefit of the pedal. If you are considering this pedal, I HIGHLY recommend you pick it up. Nothing else is better for the price out there... it does old 60's-70's crunch to modern day distortion.

GARAGE GARAGE GARAGE!!!!!

By Josh Rondeau

from Pelham, NH

This simple distortion is a must have for and new alt/garage band. It gives any guitar an incredibly beefy fuzzed tone. It's so simple that there really isn't too much to say about what it does, but there is plenty for you to do with it. This is the easiest pedal to play with to find the perfect sound for your songs. It only has three nobs and is very sensitive to how much each nob is turned. Although I expressed anergent need for all garage guitarist, lead and rhythm, to have this, it's actually much more versatile than that. If you look back at a lot of old songs from the sixties and seventies and listen for a low humming distorition, well it was this. It's been around forever because it provides plenty of distorion with losing the notes being played. It's awesome.

Best Fuzz Pedal Ever!

By Connor Harrington

from Newark, Delaware

This pedal is great. The sound of it is very unique; it is a very smooth fuzz yet very distorted. You can get many tones off of it. This can go anywhere from an Pink Floyd to The White Stripes to Korn (although i rarely play it). I play it with a Dunlop Crybaby Classic, and it just sounds perfect. I play this through a solid state amp. Although I am upgrading to a tube amp soon, you can still get good tones out of it with a solid state amp. This pedal can go through anything. I've dropped it multiple times(sometimes accidentally and purposely) and the pedal takes no damage to it. Overall, this is probably the only distortion/fuzz pedal I will ever use.

Be careful..

By Jeffy

from Los Angeles, CA

Amazing tone, very versatile in my opinion and works well for my style of music (Blues, Alternative, Punk..). However I am on my second one now (the first stopped working spontaneously), and this new one does not work with the "official" Electro-Harmonix AC adaptor the old one required.. All in all I've needed to buy two of these pedals and now two power adaptors, very frustrating. I probably just have bad luck with these but watch out for lemons.

Awesome Pedal

By Jim

from Youngstown, OH

I came across this pedal when I bought a new Fender Frontman 212r. The distortion was nice, but I needed something a little harder to push through some Nirvana and Doors covers we were doing. As a result I ought this pedal. Truly fantastic distortion. The sustian is remarkable and you can get anything from a low end fuzz bass souund to a high all treble sound with everthing in between, covered. This handles blues like a pro and sounds great on anything from Clapton to Los Lonley Boys. Very nice and an essential to any rock or blues player's rig.

Not built to last

By Thonger

from San Francisco, CA

I love the sound this pedal makes -- even my bass sustains like a cello on it -- but unfortunately the insides are not built as tough as the big sound would suggest. After owning mine for just over a year, the footswitch started to loosen from the inside and then, one day in practice, permanently failed. This is not a stomp box -- engage the switch gently -- which just doesn't help if you're up on stage rocking. Bummer, ya know?

if you buy one distortion, this is it.

By strwy2hvn94

from northport NY

This pedal is very versatile. i keep mine with sustain and tone turned all the way for perfect solo tones with endless 'stain, and chords seem to to be full enough to fill the grand canyon. it'd be hard to find an artist without one of these. my only critique is its construction. treat it with reverence, 'cause its hollow with a thin layer of steel. all in all, a must for anyone.

Simply the Best

By Floop67

from Rockton

I bought this pedal because my dad's friend had an origional one and i had a little cheap distortion pedal so i went out and bought this and man is this thing cool. i play it with a dunlop crybaby wah and through a peavy audition/chorus amp and i can dial in classic sounds like jimmy hendrix to modern all out grunge. Its the best and I would be willing to have paid a lot more for this pedal!!!
