A simple little chorus pedal with one rate knob and a switchable depth switch. Don't let the lack of dials to twiddle scare you off. The chorus sound is well voiced and already dialed in to that sweet spot. All you have to decided is how much of that sweet spot you want and how fast. The Small Clone has a special way of fusing with your guitar in an inseperable way that lets your sound actually breathe. If the sterile swirl of Boss and DOD boxes leave you feeling cold, I'd give the Small Clone a test spin. Unlike a few of the other Electro-Harmonix re-issue pedals, the Clone actually sounded better to us than our old original. It was remarkably cleaner and the chorus itself was considerably crisper. Aside from being susceptible to a few dents, the sheet-metal construction is fully ready for years of abuse on the road or your bedroom floor.

I bought this pedal a little over a year ago to get some weird grunge tones on bass and it works phenomenally. No low end or volume loss even at high rate and depth settings. After about eight months though a rather large singer I was working with took an enthusiastic step back right onto my small clone and pushed the toggle switch down into the chassis. The pedal no longer functioned. Using my GC pro coverage I was swiftly sent a replacement that also had toggle switch issues. And then when I returned that one another bad unit with switch issues. The GC clerk and I popped one open and ehx just uses a cheap switch. In short, great bass chorus, but the vintage chassis require a little extra care.

Unbelievable

Comments about Electro-Harmonix Classics Small Clone Analog Chorus Guitar Effects Pedal:

Nirvana. Alice in Chains. Eric Johnson. Anything. This pedal is insanely versatile. I bought it to spice up my clean channel but it is beginning to completely replace distortion for me. Don't even think. BUY IT NOW.

Simple, but simply beautiful

By RochesterLoner

from Upstate NY

Comments about Electro-Harmonix Classics Small Clone Analog Chorus Guitar Effects Pedal:

I haven't found another chorus that sounds as full as this one, especially in the lower frequencies, and this includes several expensive boutique units that I've tried. I'd love for it to be more adjustable, but it's not. It still sounds great. I wish it was stereo. The slider seems a tad flimsy.

For Nirvana & Kurt Cobain Fans

By Victor Rivera

from El Paso, Texas

Comments about Electro-Harmonix Classics Small Clone Analog Chorus Guitar Effects Pedal:

This pedal is great for Nirvana and Kurt Cobain fans trying to follow in they're steps. Kurt Cobain uses this pedal with the Boss DS-1 Distortion pedal in the recognizable song Drain You from the album Nevermind. This pedal is great for sound like that of Drain You with that watery tone and sound. Even though it is a bit pricey, I would still recomend this pedal to you Nirvana fans.

Join the Choir

By Celestial

Comments about Electro-Harmonix Classics Small Clone Analog Chorus Guitar Effects Pedal:

I purchased the EH Small Clone a while back for a show. It's a no-nonsense, straightforward chorus stompbox that adds shimmer to your sound. It's relatively easy to use; there's only a depth switch and a rate knob. You can go from subtle sounds (depth 1) to crazy leslie-like effects (depth 2) and anything in between. It's built like a tank and can withstand a lot of abuse. However, there are some negative aspects. Sometimes when I turn it on, it makes a harsh popping sound. Also, (and I'm not sure if this is just my pedal in specific) the sound doesn't come out too clean - ie, there is background hiss. However, once you kick your amp into overdrive or distortion, it's hardly noticeable. You can only tell when playing clean at lower volumes. But in the end, for your money, this is a very good and sturdy stompbox. It foregoes all the fancy knobs and settings and allows you just to plug in and play.

Hello Mr. Cobain

By LA7

Comments about Electro-Harmonix Classics Small Clone Analog Chorus Guitar Effects Pedal:

Thank you God, that Electro Harmonix reissued this pedal, now that I have it I can't live without it. This pedal is nirvana, I use it permanently in my setup. I never turn it off, a little tweak here and there enhances everything I play. The metal construction is sturdy, durable, I've never had a problem with it. Sounds like chorus heaven. A MUST.!!!

Get some decent cables

By Tanner C

from Kansas City, KS

Comments about Electro-Harmonix Classics Small Clone Analog Chorus Guitar Effects Pedal:

Awesome pedal, one of my favorites in my chain. Very simple to dial in yet has a WIDE range of possibilities. However, if you are using cheap patch cables you will get a terrible hiss out of this thing and a popping noise when turning it on- much more than most other pedals. Get some George L's and you're good. I still get a noise every now and then when turning it on for the first time, not sure if it just get static build up or what...click it once before you play, fixed. still 5 stars. This was my first pedals years ago along with a DS-1 to get some Kurt tones but it does so much more.

Great effect

By BENJAMIN MCELROY

from New Orleans, Louisiana

Comments about Electro-Harmonix Classics Small Clone Analog Chorus Guitar Effects Pedal:

This is a great pedal and for this price, it's a no brainer. It's built to the same standard as most ehx effects, which is very well made. It's all metal construction, true bypass, and has cool screen printing. I never cared for chorus at all and for a long time I never wanted any type of chorus on my pedal board. After owning this pedal, it's simply fantastic. In my array of about 10+ pedals, this one fits seamlessly. The great tone and simple controls are just what the doctor ordered. With moderate settings this pedal is extremely versatile. I set the dial around half way and use the switch to either go from a wobbly or a clean chorus effect. This thing can mimic the chorus sounds heard on countless records. As others have mentioned, it does however have a couple issues that I do not experience with other ehx pedals. It makes a loud unfavorable popping noise when switching on. It also has a slight low volume hiss when on. I have an ISP noise reducer that I leave on all the time so the hiss is not an issue (it's not actually the effect that hisses, it amplifies a low volume hiss from your guitar. That is where the hiss comes from. I have my noise reducer first in my chain and it eliminates hiss from the chorus even though it is placed much later and in the effects loop). As for the loud popping sound, it only pops on the first and sometimes the second time the effect it switched on. I simply power up my pedal board, then switch the chorus on and off a couple times, and then turn my amp on to warm up. I don't know why this pedal has these little quirks (hence the 4 stars) but I've found my way around them. All in all this pedal is great. If mine broke I would buy another to replace it. If they quit making it I would simply not have a chorus on my board.....simple as that.

Read an old article in which James Honeyman-Scott was talking about his rig. He used a Clone Theory with the Pretenders (and eventually switched to a Boss Chorus). The Small Clone is a spot on modern version, at a fraction of the cost. Easy to use, and has a full chorus sound. Just sounds incredible.

Comments about Electro-Harmonix Classics Small Clone Analog Chorus Guitar Effects Pedal:

As a solo acoustic finger style player, I was looking for a very subtle effect to enhance instrumental parts. I've owned other choruses in the past, and was skeptical at its rather large size and single control knob--and only a depth switch. I was pleasantly surprised. I run depth on high, the control knob on low, and get a nice fat--but subtle-melodic sound from my Martin. I haven't experimented with it much, since I'm so pleased with this setting. Good value, well made-though perhaps rather 20th century style--and USA made. Just what I wanted for a slightly different sound to bounce between my vocal parts and instrumental/lead parts. The foot switch is loud, but not enough to affect my performance. All in all, very pleased.

Oscillation audible when pedal is in bypass mode

Comments about Electro-Harmonix Classics Small Clone Analog Chorus Guitar Effects Pedal:

I thought I was getting radio interference with my rig until I realized that the popping was always the same BPM as my Small Clone. One removed from my signal chain the interference was gone. Every EHX pedal I've owned has been substandard quality and this is par for the course.

Lush chorus at a reasonable price

      By JoeMusician220

      from Pomfret, CT

Comments about Electro-Harmonix Classics Small Clone Analog Chorus Guitar Effects Pedal:

The EH Small Clone offers a distinctive analog sound that is characteristic of a quality chorus unit. Although it is somewhat less versatile than a certain digital units on the market--such as the Boss CE-20--its tonal quality far exceeds that of such units. I play a Gibson Les Paul Classic through the Small Clone (among other pedals) and into a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, sculpting a tone which is both warm and honest and highly suited to classic rock or jazz. If, tonal quality is your highest priority, then I would highly recommend this unit.

      Nevermind

      By Klisk

      from Paterson NJ

Comments about Electro-Harmonix Classics Small Clone Analog Chorus Guitar Effects Pedal:

This is that warbly Nirvana sound in a box. Perfect for the studio, and even for that shimmery chorus, a la Chino's tone on the newer Deftones and Team Sleep albums. Perfect? Almost. The one knob is more versatile than you'll think. That's not the problem, I definitely love it. The AC power is the only reason to mark it down. It's strange. Most early EHX pedals are like this. Fortunately, the tone makes up for it in SPADES!

Comments about Electro-Harmonix Classics Small Clone Analog Chorus Guitar Effects Pedal:

I spent a day trying out lots of chorus pedals, but this one gave me the sweetest tone (thanks to the depth switch) before adding the chorus. This is the best sounding chorus pedal for the money for an electric or an electric-acoustic violin! Highly recommend it to all!

      Amazing Little Pedal

      By Nathaniel

      from Ohio

Comments about Electro-Harmonix Classics Small Clone Analog Chorus Guitar Effects Pedal:

I bought this one about a year ago, and it never ceases to amaze me. I've tried it on many amps, with other effects, and several guitars, and its versatility is amazing. The controls are terribly simple, and yet the possibilities are endless. This little pedal makes your guitar sound so full and rich. You can obtain that watery sound Kurt Cobain used on many NIRVANA songs. On the less lush setting, you can obtain a glassy, almost organ or piano-like sound. I have a cheap low-end strat-style guitar with relatively weak single-coil pickups, and this pedal sure livens it up a ton. All around an amazing pedal. It's by far my favorite.

Comments about Electro-Harmonix Classics Small Clone Analog Chorus Guitar Effects Pedal:

This thing is incredible. Yes, Kurt Cobain used it, but it sounds good for the nirvana alternative/grunge sound, or just general chorus sounds. I use this for metallica type chorus effects, everything. The best sounding pedal i own. Decent price too for how good it is.

      Small Clone Large Tone

      By Mc Neill

      from San Clemente, California

Comments about Electro-Harmonix Classics Small Clone Analog Chorus Guitar Effects Pedal:

This Pedal does it all. One dial for absolute greatness. I own many chorus pedals and a Rolland JC 120 chorussing amplifier. The Clone holds its own up against them all. Why is that? Well for starters the chorusing pattern of the pedal is unpredictable in that it never seems to repeat exactly. This gives the pedal a human quality where all other types of chorus repeat perfectly and predictably. Secondly the pedal does not lack the bass response that almost all other chorus pedals do. Most pedals have a tin or metallic quality to there sound. The Small Clone sounds like Andy Summers has jumped into your pedal board!
