Overview

The Electro-Harmonix 6550EH power tube is the finest current production tube for any amp using 6550 or KT88 valves. The 6550EH offers the maximum power of any 6550 with the linearity that guitar and bass players want. With 42 watts of plate dissipation in tetrode operation and 44 watts in triode, the 6550EH offers an improvement in power over even the most desirable vintage types including the Tung-Sol 6550 and Genelex KT88. This extra headroom in a 6550EH equipped amp means bass players can finally realize the full dynamic range of the instrument and the sweetest tone available.

The extra ruggedness of the 6550EH power tube was engineered with the punishing abuse of guitar amps in mind. The nickel steel side rod mica supports ensure that the 6550EH will hold up in even the most punishing environment of high powered bass amps like the Ampeg SVT and combos where the tube is only inches from the speaker and still deliver the sweetest tone of any 6550 or KT88. The 6550EH will greatly improve the performance of any amp using 6550's.

Well made Output tubes

By Scott

Comments about 6550 Matched Power Tubes:

New output tubes for my old Marshall. They fit well and sound even better. The construction seems to be heavy duty compared to some Chinese tubes. I tried some Ruby 6550s but they cracked like an egg shell when trying to install them. The service from Guitar Center was awesome. I got these tubes in a timely manner with no surprises. The only thing you need to watch for is the retainer fitting. These tubes are a little fat for the retainers that I have so I may need to reform mine or order some proper fitting ones. I had some old RCA tubes in the amp before which were a little narrow. Thanks Guitar Center.

Great Sounding tube

Comments about Electro-Harmonix 6550 Matched Power Tubes:

I bought the "Soft" variety.I use these in my Egnater Renegade Combo Amp. I had an 6L6/EL34 combination, and felt the sound was compressed, and "Ice-Pick" at times. With these tubes, I feel I have more volume, a "Rounder" sound, and it's less compressed. If you have "Bear Trap" type tube retainers, you may have to remove them to allow for the diameter of these tubes, I had to.

Great sounding tube

By Dale Mastrull

Comments about Electro-Harmonix 6550 Matched Power Tubes:

I use 4 of these in my Egnater Renegade Combo Amp. I bought the "Soft" variety. I was using a 6L6/EL34 combination and felt the sound was compressed, and ice-pick at times. Now the sound is much "rounder" and uncompressed. When the guitar is turned up, and the Treble Booster is on, they "Break up" nicely. One thing keep in mind, if there are "Tube retainers" in your Amp, (I think they're referred to as "Bear Traps") you may have to physically remove these to allow for the diameter of the 6550 tubes. I had to do that.
