  • Powerful Low End

As reviewed by Steven Castineiras on 5/14/2010

This pedal is designed to cut high end and boost lows and it does its job well. Let's go through how it can be applied musically. For one, you can use it for just the tone it produces. Keep it on all the time and you get a nice smooth, warm tone reminicent of John Paul Jone's in "Dazed and Confused". I often use it when I have to switch my tone between songs. I can set a trebly slap tone for "Naked in the Rain" and go straight into "Walking on the Moon" after turning this pedal on. Another reason to have this on your pedalboard would be in a live situation. Sometimes you can't hear yourself when playing live. It happens a lot, especially when playing in an unfamiliar venue. Sometimes you just need to crank the volume. But more often than not you need to tweak your tone. For this reason I have a volume booster, a treble booster, a mid booster and the Mole for foundation on my board at all times. So whenever I can't hear myself I know I can fix that easily with my feet. One last use out of the Mole would be as a distortion pedal "overloader". I put it before a Boss DS-1 (Occtone mod "The 96") at its maximum level and it gave the distortion a lot more gain and bassist friendly low-end. Overall I like this pedal and have found a few good uses for it. Two bad things about it though, The pedal is obnoxiously loud at high levels and mutes your signal at its lowest level. Other complaints from fellow users include the cutting of the high end, but that's what it's designed to do... I usually keep it a hair behind noon for practical uses. Opposite of this pedal is the EHX Screaming Bird which cuts lows and boosts highs.

  • should be called "Earthquake"

As reviewed by Ray Hayes on 3/23/2010

I'm an older player and can't be hauling around huge bass rigs. I still love the old sound of the Bassmans and Acoustics and Kustoms of my youth. I play thru an old Fender Sidekick 65 which I have running thru a 2X10 bottom and back to the 15 inch Eminence Legend in the Fender. I do this so I can use either one or both. By using The Mole I have opened up the bottom range of that rig like you would not believe. This setup has gotten me more "headturns" and good comments about my sound. I'm very pleased with the product and have accomplished my goal of having a versitle amp set-up.

  • Interesting but...

As reviewed by Mr McHuge on 8/9/2010

I was actually hoping for an overall boost. Unfortunately since GC doesn't have this in stock I had to sort of wing it when ordering it. You really have to watch your settings with it. For example, at a low output, its generally a "muted" sound. Almost "baffled". You can get a crazy overdrive out of it. However you will REALLY be pushing your rig. TO be clear, for future buyers, this does NOT cleanly boost your signal. Which is kind of what I was looking for. Instead, think of it more of a powered tone/almost overdrive foot pedal.
