A bloody masterpiece!

The Electro-Harmonix English Muff'n Overdrive effects pedal re-creates the majesty and classic tone of legendary British amps with spot-on accuracy. Instead of a mere emulation, the Overdrive uses real vacuum tubes, including a 12AY7 cascading into a 12AX7, to produce true Brit-valve sounds full of rich, natural saturation.

Exactly what I wanted...

This pedal blows away any Distortion I have ever run through. In my attempts to emulate that signature JCM2000 warm OD I stumbled across this tank! Swapped out the 12AY7 in the second position for a Mesa Boogie 12AX7 made in Russia, and watch out. With the gain at about 12 o'clock, and the Bass a lil higher than 2 o'clock I'm pulling AC/DC sound at no problem. With the Gain at around 4 oclock I'm killin my Old TSL60 stack I used to own. Purchase one, you wont be let down!!!

Tube power

Great pedal for tube drive or as a equalizer. I use mine with a Geddy Lee Jazz into an Ampeg v4bh tube head mainly as a faux 2nd overdrive channel just to get some crunch. I have the treble and bass around 3 and the mids at 10, gain at about 3 also and adjust volume as needed for a boost. It gets pretty gritty and really fills the room in chorus and breakdowns. Very warm tone as anyone would expect. You are starving the tubes for power so it's a bit different sound than overdriving your amp but definatly effective. Mine came with two 12AY7's and I switched the second tube to a 12AX7 for a little more grit. I reccommed it if you want a gritty distortion for bass and even if you are looking for a smooth drive; changing the tubes and turning the gain down would work.

Electro-Harmonix English Muff'n Overdrive Pedal

The Electro-Harmonix English Muff'n Overdrive Pedal is an awesome pedal. The sound created by it is amazing. I first tried the pedal out during a jam session with some friends. After the first note i played through it i was hooked on its amazing tone. Since then the pedal has become a staple on my pedal board and i use it for most of my set during live shows and recording time. I recommend this pedal to everyone, it is truely a must have pedal.

great pedal

Dec. 23,2006 I was in the middle of a show when my tube king quit working so I had to resort to my mega distortion pedal but it just did'nt quite have the tone that i've been used to hearing comming from my tube king, if any one knows anything about the tube king it is a very solid pedal but not in production any more so the only way I was going to be able to replace it was through ebay and I didn't have time for that so was forced to venture back out on the market for another tube pedal I had tried SEVERAL but no luck untill I plugged into the english muffin and I was blown away by it's tone and all around versalality I used it for my new years eve show and sounded great,so now i'am going to add it to my pedal board for good even when I get my tube king back from repair I will just add the tube king as mearly a second distortion but i'am sure i will rearly need it (IF YOUR PLAYING CLASSIC ROCK OR SRV OR TODAYS ALTERNATIVE ROCK THE SOUND IS THERE FOR YOU AND IF YOUR PLAYING HEAVY ROCK SIMPLY SWAP OUT THE 12AU7 TUBES WITH 12AX7 AND YOU HAVE A MONSTER ON YOUR HANDS) Just go to your favorite music store and to try out the english muffin and you will understand better what I'am trying to say. Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.....

It's like a Plexi without the mortgage

The Electro-Harmonix English Muff'n is basically a clone of the preamp section of a Marshall Plexi. It's a relatively simple design, one triode overloading another, but the sound is soooo sweet and soooo classic. I use this with my Epi Les Paul (with Seymour Duncan pickups and coil-splitting switches) and a 15W Peavy amp. Even with that modest setup, by tweaking the gain and EQ on the Muff'n I can evoke Hendrix, Angus Young, Pete Townshend, practically anyone who used a Marshall. By lowering the gain so it's just a little gritty, you can get the hard-driven Fender Twin sound, like B.B. King or John Lee Hooker. I highly, highly recommend it. Just remember you'll need an extra power jack, since it uses its own AC power supply (unavoidable with tubes).
