These are Electro-Harmonix EL84EH power tubes in platinum matched sets. The EL84 is the most common low power pentode tube, popularized in early Vox AC30 amps. Rediscovered by Matchless amps and now currently used by nearly every tube amp company. Delivers quick, soft overdrive distortion, great for recording but usually too low volume for live gigs.

Electro-Harmonix' platinum matching process consists of a 24-hour tube burn-in period followed by a bias (plate) current measurement in milliamps.

Soft, medium, and hard style descriptions refer to break up modes of the tube for an overdriven guitar signal. Soft-rated tubes break up easier and have the least headroom, yielding a heavier, harder distortion. In comparison, hard-rated tubes break up easier and have the least headroom, yielding a heavier, harder distortion, while medium-rated tubes fall in between.

  • Sweet Russian magic

    I really like the electro Harmonics El84 power tubes. They have that smooth silky tone that makes the AC30 sound so good. I have used others in the past and always return to the Electro tube for its 70's russian vibe like we used to get back in the day. Thanks GC. Mc Neill

  • Sound Satisfaction!

    I have been playing through these tubes about 2 weeks now, they are just right! I also bought the Electro Harmonix 12ax7 tubes to go along with them. I play country and blues through a Peavey Delta Blues 115 amp with a Strat. I have the custom shop '54 pick ups in my guitar. I am in HEAVEN! The factory JJ Tubes had gotten tired, so I wanted to try something new. I bought the mid break up tubes, they start breaking up at 4 if picked heavily, then really start sounding serious at 6-7. I never have turned it up to 12 to tell you how they sound at that level, the amp is just too loud past 8 in the house. I tend to play clean most of the time and these babies are so smooth! Electro Harmonix make good products that in return make good times!

  • good power tubes

    Replaced the TAD's that came in my Dr Z Maz 18 with these (Hard matched pair). Increased the headroom a touch, and really smoothed out the top end. Not as bright as the TAD's or JJ's, they have a really nice drive to them when hit hard and are nicely touch sensitive.
