Overview

The 15 W Egnater Tweaker amp head is ultracompact and amazingly versatile. The all-tube Egnater amp head offers unique and sophisticated tone with seemingly endless variations via the onboard Tweaker selector switches. Powered by a pair of 6V6 power tubes, the Tweaker is a perfect micro amp for gigging.

The amp head's gain, EQ, and master sections each have a Tweaker switch providing a wide range of tones from the ultra smooth and satisfying to fully over-saturated lead tones.

Hidden inside the Egnater Tweaker head is a vast array of tones not usually found in amps with such a compact design. Each of the 5 toggle switches on the front changes the amp head's character. The Tight and Bright switches shape the low and high end from soft and smooth to punchy and aggressive. The Gain switch goes from sparkly clean to an all-out high-gain assault. The EQ switch selects from pristine American to classic Brit and even the illusive VX AC sound. The Classic/Modern voicing switch dials up either soft and smooth or hard and edgy power-tube tone. The Egnater 15W amp head makes sure it's all in there to satisfy the ultimate Tweaker.

The more I play this amp, the more I like it. I expected it to be good, but not this good. Egnater has a real winner, and at a great price. I like the tones much more than the Rebel 20 produces. The tone shaping switches really make a difference, unlike many amps out there. The construction is very solid and clean. I love the wicker grill. The tubes are all mounted above the PCB for heat to travel up, right out of the top vents. It likes pedals, and I've placed the delay in the oh-so-cool effects loop, while the wah/OD-boost/distortion run into the input. The cleans are super glassy, especially using the AC setting. Crunch is right where I like it, and very touch sensitive. Here's a surprise... Metal. Yes, you can get a serious metal roar out of the Tweaker. Maybe not metal core, but that's not what it is designed for. The lead tones are nice and woody with plenty of sustain. If you demo it, be sure to print the tone settings guide from Egnater's website so you can quickly dial in the whole spectrum of tones. Be ready to buy it!

This is a great little amp and I really tried to hang with it as I love the variations of tone you can muster up. This thing has very nice clean fat warm tone to smooth lead and beyond into killer chunk. The is simply a very nice amp. A minor knock however is the amp does not respond very well to volume control on your guitar to clean up as you will find the tone drops offs too much and becomes flat. A second channel would be a welcomed addition. Now for the bad... As I said I really tried to hang with this amp but in the end became convinced best to stay away from Asian manufactured amps. The first unit died after one week, the second arrived dead on arrival, and third had pops and crackles during the first five minutes of operation. It seams the guy at GC when I first started my tone quest for a nice bedroom practice amp advising me to stay away from Egnater amps was right - I should have listened...

Comments about Egnater Tweaker 15W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Great tone flexibility, cleans up very well and can be set to go from sparkly clean to gritty with guitar volume adjustment. Only downfall is no reverb which most competitors have, and single channel, but it's $100 cheaper than competing peavey mini heads with 2ch and reverb. No reverb is the only reason I didn't give 5 stars..
Overall a great amp.

Comments about Egnater Tweaker 15W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I love my Tweaker 15! I am mostly a bedroom guitarist these days. That's the main reason I went with the 15W version. It has a switchable tone stack that allows you to change between USA (Fender), AC (Vox), and Brit (Marshall). The tone controls are very subtle until the master volume is up around 1 o'clock, then it really comes alive. For bedroom playing, I generally crank the master volume up and back the gain down. I try for a nice clean tone and then run pedals in front of the amp. I have a few different guitars with different types of pickups that I play through the amp and the controls on the Tweaker allow me to get great sounds from them all. When using a Fender Telecaster (with Fender Noiseless N3 single coil pickups), I have the bright/normal switch set to normal otherwise it is too bright. However, when I use one of my guitars with P90's, the amp is really dark and I will switch it to bright and increase the treble while backing off the bass a bit. Another great tone with the P90's is using the hot channel and cranking the gain. The P90's growl like I've never heard before! When I play my Gibson Les Paul with humbuckers the amp breaks up al much lower gain settings. Great tones all around. For the musician with several guitars with different pickups, you will have to spend some time with the amp and discover all the great tones you can get from the Tweaker. It is time well spent, do not get impatient.

Comments about Egnater Tweaker 15W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I like the versatility of tones you can achieve just by changing the tone switches , i.e usa or brit or ac amp sounds , tight and bright switches , etc . Also nice to have the ohmage switch to use a variety of speaker combinations . Currently I'm using a 2x10 cab and the amp sounds great . Oh , and it can get loud for just 15 watts . Like I said , very versatile amp .

      An analog modeler

      By scott trowbridge

Comments about Egnater Tweaker 15W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

There are lots of reviews, so just putting in my 2 cents. Very happy to have this head, which is basically an analog modeler. Aside from the regular EQ knobs, all those little switches give some powerful tone shaping. It might be a small stretch to say that with a flip of a switch it sounds completely like you've switched to a Marshall, a Vox, or Fender, but they certainly get you in the ballpark. More importantly, each circuit route sounds good. Some might just sound better with a certain guitar or cabinet. After spending a few hours with it, I began wedded to different settings for a p90 guitar and for one with dual humbuckers. In other words, plugging in with random settings, strumming was like 'ha not bad' ...tweaking as the model name suggests, got me to 'wow that really accentuates that particular guitar'

      Tweaker 15 rocks!

      By ROBERT BOURGEAULT

      from Southwick, MA

Comments about Egnater Tweaker 15W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I already own a number of high end amps (Marshall 1974x, Fender Twin, Deluxe Reverb) and have replaced stock speakers with Tone Tubby or Scumback in search of better tone on some amps. I have been reading about the Egnater Tweaker for several years and the concept of multiple switches to adjust tone seemed very appealing. I gig with a classic rock dance band and, as you know, every venue has different sound characteristics. I usually gig with American Strats and getting a fat tone can be a challenge. I bought the Tweaker 15 and a 112X (Celestion 30) cabinet. While I haven't gigged with it yet, the sound and variability are great with both Strats and Les Pauls. Nice clean and great overdrive. All the switches really work to vary the tone. No popping or crackling as other reviewers have reported and no criticisms...Reverb would be nice. I like the Tweaker so much that I ordered a second 112X cab AND the Tweaker 40 because of the channel switching feature. Highly recommend the 15 as a home/practice amp and I am confident it will gig well also. Rock and Roll!

Awesome Tube Sound, Amazingly Low Price!

      By Steve Wood

      from Nashville, TN

Comments about Egnater Tweaker 15W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

The Egnater Tweaker 15 is an amazing head. I run mine through a Bugera 2x12 cabinet, and, for a 15 watt amp, it can really crank out some volume! Additionally, this amp produces incredibly rich, warm tube tone. Using the recommended settings in the User Manual, I have been able to produce really nice cleans and some nice warm, somewhat soft tube overdrive, as well as some great blues sounds and classic Vox sounds. Some people have said that all of the "tweak" features (Vintage/Modern, USA/AC/BRIT, Bright/Normal, and Tight/Deep) do not really have much of an effect on the tone, but I have not found this to be true at all. I have used these features to produce all kinds of nice sounds. Another nice feature of this amp is its effects loop. The loop works well and I notice no signal loss when running pedals through it. Also, the front end of the amp takes pedals very nicely, especially overdrive. I do not play metal, so it is hard for me to say, but I really cannot see this amp producing huge distorted tones for metal players, but it could certainly be done with pedals. All things considered, I would recommend this amp to anyone looking for a nice versatile tube amp!

      Tweaker grows on you

      By Mark Giacalone

      from Rancho Palos Verdes, CA

Comments about Egnater Tweaker 15W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

There are some excellent tones that can come out of this amp. There are also a few not-so-good tones there as well. Probably true of nearly any amp. Sounds better at higher volume - again, probably true of tube amps in general. An eq pedal helps alot in my opinion with the Tweaker. The tight and bright switches work very well. The effects loop is a plus. I was tone searching when I bought this amp, and I had not yet settled on a sound I really liked. I was coming off of a solid state amp back then, so I had alot to learn about tube amps. A benefit of having this amp was that it allowed me to experiment with different tones characteristic of some of the big names in tube amps, from vintage to modern. I am not saying that this amp will match the tones exactly of the more well-known amps used in rock, but it does give the player the opportunity to "reasonably" achieve those tones. For the money, you get some good capability from this amp. I have since played on some more expensive amps that do their job very well, and I think I will go in that direction in the future. The Tweaker is no slouch however, and it does rock hard.

      Eh...

      By Russell Richardson,Jr

Comments about Egnater Tweaker 15W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I played this amp for a good 20 minutes and could not get a good distorted sound out of it. I got muddy even on the low gain settings which sucks. The US and Brit settings are useless and dont capture the sound of any amp from either country. The clean channel on the other hand was respectable at best. The build quality of the amp however is quite superb and durable. It's sound is just not my cup of tea. Well I guees my search continues...

      Big little Amp

      By Kris Doub

      from Pierceton, In

Comments about Egnater Tweaker 15W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

My first tube amp and all I can say is.....WOW! This little box goes from squeaky clean to freaky overdrive. I now get the overdriven sound I wanted with out all the stomp boxes. I liked my solid state amp at first because of all the effects that were built in but I did not like the "dry" sound I got, no personality! The tweaker fixed all that. I get almost anything I want out of this little box. This is a keeper for a very long time.

      Terrific little amp

      By John Wiley

      from New Albany, OH

Comments about Egnater Tweaker 15W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I've been eyeing the Egnater Tweaker 15W head for some time now and finally got one this week. I'm really digging the sound out of this little guy. This is my first low power tube amp and I appreciate being able to get power tube distortion without making my ears bleed. I record at home and plan to use this amp for that purpose, so this amp is a perfect fit! The amp has decent clean headroom if you're using single-coils but I find that with high-power humbuckers it starts to get dirty pretty quick. The various tweaker controls are all very useful in achieving whatever sound you're looking for. I listened to many youtube video demos of this amp before buying (I ordered online), and found that the Vintage / Modern switch is much more effective in person than it sounds in the videos. The Modern setting adds top and bottom end that makes the sound much larger. I have my Tweaker going through a custom 1x12 cabinet with an older 12" Carvin British Series speaker. The Carvin speaker is supposedly modeled after a classic Celestion, but who knows for sure? Anyway, it sounds great through that speaker. I also have a 2x12 cabinet with Electro-Voice 12L's and I'm not happy with the sound through those speakers. The Electro Voice's tend to be dark and bassy so I have to crank the treble, cut the bass, and engage the bright switch on the Tweaker to get back the lost crispness. Lesson learned -- speakers make a huge difference! So to end my review I would whole-heartedly recommend the 15W Tweaker for recording. The lack of channel switching and a switchable effects loop make it less useful as a gigging amp, unless you don't need that versatility. It does get reasonably loud, so you could use it for a small gig as long as you like it dirty!
