Overview

The 15 W Egnater Tweaker amp head is ultracompact and amazingly versatile. The all-tube Egnater amp head offers unique and sophisticated tone with seemingly endless variations via the onboard Tweaker selector switches. Powered by a pair of 6V6 power tubes, the Tweaker is a perfect micro amp for gigging.

The amp head's gain, EQ, and master sections each have a Tweaker switch providing a wide range of tones from the ultra smooth and satisfying to fully over-saturated lead tones.

Hidden inside the Egnater Tweaker head is a vast array of tones not usually found in amps with such a compact design. Each of the five toggle switches on the front changes the amp head's character. The Tight and Bright switches shape the low and high end from soft and smooth to punchy and aggressive. The Gain switch goes from sparkly clean to an all-out high-gain assault. The EQ switch selects from pristine American to classic Brit and even the illusive VX AC sound. The Classic/Modern voicing switch dials up either soft and smooth or hard and edgy power-tube tone. The Egnater 15 W amp head makes sure it's all in there to satisfy the ultimate Tweaker.

The more I play this amp, the more I like it. I expected it to be good, but not this good. Egnater has a real winner, and at a great price. I like the tones much more than the Rebel 20 produces. The tone shaping switches really make a difference, unlike many amps out there. The construction is very solid and clean. I love the wicker grill. The tubes are all mounted above the PCB for heat to travel up, right out of the top vents. It likes pedals, and I've placed the delay in the oh-so-cool effects loop, while the wah/OD-boost/distortion run into the input. The cleans are super glassy, especially using the AC setting. Crunch is right where I like it, and very touch sensitive. Here's a surprise... Metal. Yes, you can get a serious metal roar out of the Tweaker. Maybe not metal core, but that's not what it is designed for. The lead tones are nice and woody with plenty of sustain. If you demo it, be sure to print the tone settings guide from Egnater's website so you can quickly dial in the whole spectrum of tones. Be ready to buy it!

This is a great little amp and I really tried to hang with it as I love the variations of tone you can muster up. This thing has very nice clean fat warm tone to smooth lead and beyond into killer chunk. The is simply a very nice amp. A minor knock however is the amp does not respond very well to volume control on your guitar to clean up as you will find the tone drops offs too much and becomes flat. A second channel would be a welcomed addition. Now for the bad... As I said I really tried to hang with this amp but in the end became convinced best to stay away from Asian manufactured amps. The first unit died after one week, the second arrived dead on arrival, and third had pops and crackles during the first five minutes of operation. It seams the guy at GC when I first started my tone quest for a nice bedroom practice amp advising me to stay away from Egnater amps was right - I should have listened...

I'm in Love with an Inanimate Object

By rob

from Chicago, IL

Comments about Egnater Tweaker 15 W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I had been looking to pick up a low-wattage amp for awhile, and have tried numerous little heads and combos out. I liked the Rebel 20, but was looking for something a little more versatile. This sucker really does everything well. There is not a music style or amp approximation you can't dial in. Fender, Boogie, AC and Marshall are all very good approximations, as the switches and tone stack are designed to reproduce the same circuit designs. The tone controls do an awful lot. The Marshall setting through a 2x12 cab with greenback-type speakers is just unbelievable. You can go high-gain, clean, twang, sludge, etc., and go from befroom levels to loud as h*ll. It's great to be able to pick any kind of song I want to play and be able to draw that sound of this awesome little amp. I've reached amp nirvana, without having to shell out for a Boogie 5:25, another fantastic, versatile amp. Couldn't be happier.

Excellent Amp!

By JDL

from Minneapolis

Comments about Egnater Tweaker 15 W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I have played through many amps over the years. Fender, Budda, Mesa, Marshall, & VOX. The Tweaker can do it all! Class A Cathode biased. You can change out the 6V6's for 6L6's, EL34's, 5881's, etc. Sounds a lot like a Mesa on the Brit Channel with the gain at 1 o'clock (clean). the AC channel sounds very glassy! Tone possibilities are almost endless. This amp will handle any style. Even Metal. I like it better than the Rebel series. Very Loud!

Way Better Than Expected

By Jack

from Elkton, MD

Comments about Egnater Tweaker 15 W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I've never written a review at a site like this before but this time I felt a real need to share my experience. This amp has exceeded my expectations many times over. Playing thru a closed back 1X12 cabinet that I already owned, it sounds amazing. Excellent cleans, nice grind and very nice higher gain also. Also can do a nice mid scooped sound. Did I say I'm impressed? I've tried it with 6L6 and EL34 tubes also and the 6L6 sound the best to me. I'm very impressed with this amp and will probably sell a couple of my other low wattage tube amps.

AWESOME!

By S.

from PA

Comments about Egnater Tweaker 15 W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

This amp is no toy!! Huge sounds, feedback, tone, Tone TONE! What I like about this amp is that any guitar you play through it will sound unique. Very easy to use piece of equipment. All of the switches have a noticeable impact. Modern Mode almost gives you a slight volume boost, and clarity. USA, AC, and Brit, get hotter as you switch down accordingly. AC is a nice rounded tone with cleaner highs and a raspy bottom, while Brit gives you more lows and mids while melting your face clean off. USA mode has more highs and might be more suitable to cut through a mix. Throuh a Marshall 1936 cab this beast is plenty loud though a mic would be necessary for live situations. Buy one now, turn it up and don't look back!

GET IT!

Comments about Egnater Tweaker 15 W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Went in to GC for pickups, saw this amp. I had a Rebel 20, which was a great amp, but I was gigging with something else and a buddy just had to have it, so I sold it to him. I plugged in a Tele, then a Strat, then a LP, just one great tone after another. I played it for about 2 hours in the store, then took it home. Still amazed with it, gigs great, takes all pedals I have, very well. Cannot recommend it highly enough, Outstanding amp, and when you add in the price of the rig, you cannot beat it!

Serious Mojo...

By Jay

from Marietta, GA

Comments about Egnater Tweaker 15 W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

...was at GC to "check out" a few (tube) amps. Played through the Fender Blues Jr and loved it. Played thru a Peavey Delta Blues w/ the 15" and loved that even more. I was torn...but then, out of the corner of my eye I saw the Tweaker. I plugged in and fell in love within 5 minutes! The Tweaker beat both amps (for tone) hands down. (...except the bass in the Peavey 15" can't be beat...) THIS AMP HAS TONE FOR DAYS!...From warm to bright and dirty to clean, and everywhere in between. That being said, there are some price vs. feature trade-offs...like no reverb, no trem, and the bass response is a little weak with certain settings -but that's just personal preference...and can be remedied with some great pedals! ...you might want to go pick this one up because it's gonna be a classic!

Comments about Egnater Tweaker 15 W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Purchased my "Tweaker' over the Memorial Day Weekend 2010 at a Gc in Lancaster,Pa. Tried out their floor model with a Mim Tele.I'm a Lp player so I figured if the Tele souded Good thru the Head a Lp would as Well . Needless to say I came home with the Head.I run a set up at home with a 1x12 Lopo Wgs Loaded Cab. The amp sounds greatwith plenty of tone options.I'm a Blues,Blues Rock player who likes the "old school " Gibson mid & bass heavy tones of P.Green,Mick Taylor, Duane,Dickey and A. King.

Best Amp Value Out There!

By eriwebnerr

from Cairo, NY

Comments about Egnater Tweaker 15 W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

This amp is the best value on the market today in my opinion. Absolutely addictive clean and dirty tones. Plays like a dream and is plenty loud for anything from recording to gigs. I've owned the Rebel and the switches on this are more usable and really let you craft almost any tone you can think of. Blackface, AC, Plexi - they really are all in there with no need for a digital front end or modeler. Works really well with an Eminence Swamp Thang as well. Pairing that speaker with the suggested G12H30 is tonal bliss!

FLAME ON

By dps

from SOUTH PASADENA,CA

Comments about Egnater Tweaker 15 W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

This high-octane ferocious gem sounds best with a 4 X 12 cab. You will be blown away -guaranteed. Reviewers using a 1X 12 with the Tweaker do not give it justice. This 15-watt amp will eat all the micro- amps out there including the Haze, Vox, Mesa, and even its big sisters the Rebel 20 & 30. It takes pedals (GT-10) very well. Very versatile. Changed stock tubes to JJ 6V6s and Tungsol 12AX7s - beefed up the sound. With the Hot & Modern switches engaged, the Tweaker sounds very solid even with pedals. This is a great stuff!!!

SWISS ARMY AMP

By peter

from pasadena,ca

Comments about Egnater Tweaker 15 W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

The TWEAKER is what I have been looking for that delivers all the sounds without the price of a rectifier. I have the Rebel 20 but it is sounds tizzy with pedals and more watts means nothing to the quality of tone. I am running the Tweaker with 2X12 and a Deluxe Reverb Reissue in stereo with a Boss GT-10 and it sounds amazing. Changed the tubes with RCAs 6V6s and Tungsols 12AX7s and now it sounds just as good as a MB rectifier. A Les Paul going through it sounds huge, fat and articulate. It can also get chimey with a Strat. The Tweaker has endless possibilities in tone. It is loud and proud.

Had to replace my Hot Rod Deluxe

By Ted Loughry

from Denver, CO

Comments about Egnater Tweaker 15 W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

So my old Hot Rod kicked the bucket. I had spent years breaking it in. I knew it up and down and really trusted it to make me sound good. But I was older and more mature (i.e. I couldn't get it up on the stage without resting) Low wattage sounded pretty good to me so I started to try out everything I could track down. The Tweaker stood out as one of the best sounding, but for the price it couldn't be beat. I play lead in a blues band and I fill spaces for my hippie friends on folk night. In the basement I get the Led out and pretend I'm Steve Vai. This amp covers all the bases.

Ok, WoW!

By Chris s

from Seattle, WA

Comments about Egnater Tweaker 15 W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

If you are a tweaker like me, you will absolutely love this amp. I was enjoying some spanking clean tones out of my strat with this when I initially got it home, and thought, "I wonder what my SG would sound like through this?" How about, out of this world good. And amazingly versatile, this amp lives up to the hype. All the tone is there at your fingertips, and the tone is versatile. I had this going through a 2x12 Marshall half stack and it gets plenty loud for anything I would do. If you play a bigger venue, you get mic-ed up anyway, and this amp lets you dial in your stage volume beautifully. Now, with a single ten or twelve, maybe it's not up to a full band. In fact, I think this amp really shines in the studio best. Compared to my other boutique amp (a high end amp I won't name, but it's over a grand for 5 clean, hand-wired watts) I would argue that this amp is just way more versatile, with all the same great grind, crunch, metal tones (with the SG for certain, maybe would need a boost pedal for the Strat) as well as lots of cleaner tones to work with. I can see this getting tons of use for primary guitar tracks, but I also can definitely see myself taking this out for fun on Friday night or using it exclusively for the right project. I love the way the Drive and the Master complement each other to get just the right kind of grind and sustain. It's pretty much the crunch of my dreams, but singing leads are just one knob away! With the right cabinet, it's plenty loud for smaller clubs, and it sounds so good, it doesn't need any pedals, I can get all the tone I need in my fingers. That is saying something my friends, it's changing the way I approach the instrument I play. Don't miss this one. Check it out!!!

Comments about Egnater Tweaker 15 W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I got the Tweaker based on reviews on the web....I needed something to go along with both a 1-12 and a 4-10 cab....figured I couldn't go wrong with the price or mony back guarantee....have had it a week and run it through both cab with a PRS SE w/p90's and an Ibanez Jet King w/ HB's...absolutely love it....you can read all the info about the switches and controls yourself....don't need me to bore you....I have a BF Deluxe Reverb, a BF Super, couple of Tech 21, Peavey Delta Blues and have had a couple of Matchless... bottom line is that just about every setting sounds good and you can "tweak" til your hearts content.....this is a keeper....and the price is right. worst issue is I might have to mic it for gigging....big deal....

Tweaker grows on you

By Mark Giacalone

from Rancho Palos Verdes, CA

Comments about Egnater Tweaker 15 W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

There are some excellent tones that can come out of this amp. There are also a few not-so-good tones there as well. Probably true of nearly any amp. Sounds better at higher volume - again, probably true of tube amps in general. An eq pedal helps alot in my opinion with the Tweaker. The tight and bright switches work very well. The effects loop is a plus. I was tone searching when I bought this amp, and I had not yet settled on a sound I really liked. I was coming off of a solid state amp back then, so I had alot to learn about tube amps. A benefit of having this amp was that it allowed me to experiment with different tones characteristic of some of the big names in tube amps, from vintage to modern. I am not saying that this amp will match the tones exactly of the more well-known amps used in rock, but it does give the player the opportunity to "reasonably" achieve those tones. For the money, you get some good capability from this amp. I have since played on some more expensive amps that do their job very well, and I think I will go in that direction in the future. The Tweaker is no slouch however, and it does rock hard.

Awesome Tube Sound, Amazingly Low Price!

By Steve Wood

from Nashville, TN

Comments about Egnater Tweaker 15 W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

The Egnater Tweaker 15 is an amazing head. I run mine through a Bugera 2x12 cabinet, and, for a 15 watt amp, it can really crank out some volume! Additionally, this amp produces incredibly rich, warm tube tone. Using the recommended settings in the User Manual, I have been able to produce really nice cleans and some nice warm, somewhat soft tube overdrive, as well as some great blues sounds and classic Vox sounds. Some people have said that all of the "tweak" features (Vintage/Modern, USA/AC/BRIT, Bright/Normal, and Tight/Deep) do not really have much of an effect on the tone, but I have not found this to be true at all. I have used these features to produce all kinds of nice sounds. Another nice feature of this amp is its effects loop. The loop works well and I notice no signal loss when running pedals through it. Also, the front end of the amp takes pedals very nicely, especially overdrive. I do not play metal, so it is hard for me to say, but I really cannot see this amp producing huge distorted tones for metal players, but it could certainly be done with pedals. All things considered, I would recommend this amp to anyone looking for a nice versatile tube amp!

Tweaker 15 rocks!

By ROBERT BOURGEAULT

from Southwick, MA

Comments about Egnater Tweaker 15 W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I already own a number of high end amps (Marshall 1974x, Fender Twin, Deluxe Reverb) and have replaced stock speakers with Tone Tubby or Scumback in search of better tone on some amps. I have been reading about the Egnater Tweaker for several years and the concept of multiple switches to adjust tone seemed very appealing. I gig with a classic rock dance band and, as you know, every venue has different sound characteristics. I usually gig with American Strats and getting a fat tone can be a challenge. I bought the Tweaker 15 and a 112X (Celestion 30) cabinet. While I haven't gigged with it yet, the sound and variability are great with both Strats and Les Pauls. Nice clean and great overdrive. All the switches really work to vary the tone. No popping or crackling as other reviewers have reported and no criticisms...Reverb would be nice. I like the Tweaker so much that I ordered a second 112X cab AND the Tweaker 40 because of the channel switching feature. Highly recommend the 15 as a home/practice amp and I am confident it will gig well also. Rock and Roll!
