Overview

Each of the Tourmaster 4100 amp head's channels has an identical set of controls, but that is where the similarities end.

Clean/Vintage 1 is the cleanest of the four. Within this channel lives a range of Classic tones ranging from pristine sparkle with the voicing switch set to MODERN to a punchy, aggressive drive (think clean JTM) in the CLASSIC mode. Pressing the button to activate the CONTOUR control opens an entire new range of beautiful clean, almost acoustic, tones not often found in a tube amplifier.

Clean/Vintage 2 has a very similar voicing to the Clean/Vintage 1 channel. This channel has more gain, so it can be pushed into mild overdrive. Sweet blues and classic rock tones are easily coaxed out of this channel. The contour knob adds another level of unique flavors.

Overdrive 1: From AC/DC crunch to modern rock, this channel covers a lot of bases all by itself. Dial down the gain and the feel is pure classic rock. Push the gain and enter into more modern, saturated territory. Scoop the mids with the CONTOUR control for monstrous metal or set it for classic British rhythm.

Overdrive 2: The Tourmaster's most intense channel, you'll find ferocious gain with a wide range of tones to suit the '80s shredder as well as the heaviest modern metal player. Scoop the mids with the powerful CONTOUR control for massive crunch or push the midrange for a solo tone that cuts through with serious authority.

Power Grid: This is a really cool feature you will only find on the Egnater Tourmaster amps. Using a group of 5 slide switches on the rear panel, you can set the power output for each channel individually. There is a 3-position slide switch corresponding to each of the four channels and a single FULL POWER/ HALF POWER slide switch. In FULL POWER mode, you can choose between 100w, 50w or 25w per channel. In the HALF POWER mode, you can between choose 50w, 25w or 10w per channel.

With the Tourmaster 4100 amp head, you not only have a wide array of tones available from the preamp channels, but with the Power Grid you can introduce any amount of power tube distortion you wish to each channel: all preset, all automatic.

I gave this amp 5 stars because it sounds awesome and the features are incredible. You can't beat 4 channels of raw 100 watt tube driven power at this price. For the first channel I have it set at sparkling clean with no drive whatsoever. The second channel I run it clean but with a little tiny bit of drive. The third channel i run a classic rock distortion. The fourth channel is all out rock distortion with a furocious power that melts faces. I got rid of all my overdrive and distortion pedals because with this amp who needs 'em. I'm running a 2008 Gibson Les Paul Classic through this amp, and I have never heard this guitar sound better. I've played with Marshall JVM's, JCM's, Vintage Moderns, Mesa Boogie's, Budda's, but i never got the exact sound i was looking for. I was pretty much a tone freak in search of the perfect tone until I met this amp. The Egnater Tourmaster does it all.

The idea of having four(4) amps in one(1) is great. I purchased two(2) of the 4100's and four(4) cab's approx. one(1) year ago. One full stack has worked great in the studio with very little issues and has produced some GREAT sounds. The second full stack, purchased one(1) month later has been nothing but a problem. The head has been back to the shop on three ocasions (total lost studio time of two months). Egnater's East Coast service center is poor at best. There corporate care center is not much better. If your purchase one of there products make sure you can get the product serviced. Great product but very BAD support. Had to take the head to our Marshall tech to have it repaired right.

Comments about Egnater Tourmaster Series 4100 100W All-Tube Guitar Amp Head:

To start with, I have been playing for roughly 30 years, so I'm not a beginner. I bought this amp a couple of years ago and it's been plauged with problems since day 1. It's a shame too because the amp sounds great on any channel. It has gotten to the point that when I go out to play a gig, I don't know whether this amp is going to work or not. NOW...the footswitch has stopped working, and I can't get another. Egnater customer support might as well be based on another planet a trillion light years from earth. It's non existant. Can't get calls answered, returned, or email help. I won't be getting another Egnater. I just bought a Bugera 333xl Infinum, and it sounds just as good as the Tourmaster for a third of the cost.

Comments about Egnater Tourmaster Series 4100 100W All-Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I went to GC to check out a combo Tourmaster, it ended up being some beat up used thing, but it sounded good. It was really heavy. So I ordered the head only from MF to run through my Marshall 2x12 cab. When it arrived it was in a thin unmarked box, I opened it and could tell the footswitch had been repacked in the box, so at this point I was suspicious. Plugged it in and stared with channel 1 and made adjustments and it started sounding great, did this with each channel and sounding really good until a got to channel four, DEAD. MF had the nerve to send me a used defective head that had been returned. I contacted Egnater and they told me the only time they send something out in a plain box is when it's a refurbish, I couldn't believe MF would do this, I called MF and asked to speak to a supervisor and she asked "What do you want me to do?" I don't know if I will order again from MF, if you do, make sure to tell them if you pay full price you want it new in the box!

Great sounding amp with some build issues

        By Rob-dMwBk

        from California

Comments about Egnater Tourmaster Series 4100 100W All-Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Firstly, I must say that this amp is one of the best sounding tone machines I've heard. Correctly dialed in, it can produce anything from California to England both in terms of clean and down right nasty. The tone is nothing short of beautiful. I purchased this amp from GC on clearance. Great price, but had some problems. I sent the amp to Egnater for repair (great warranty). They fixed most of the problems, but missed a problem with a low level static that sometimes became ferocious, completely taking over the tone and volume. I called them and they payed return shipping. They replaced all of the tubes (12 in total) as a effort to fix the problem. They believe (maybe too much) that tubes fix most all problems with static. They reported that they never heard the problem, but re-tubed it to satisfy my complaint. They sent it back with problem intact. They never followed my instructions in order to find and diagnose the problem, thus they never found it. This is my only complaint with Egnater. They don't really listen well to the customer. They forced me to pay to return the amp and show them the problem. Fortunately, I live within driving distance to their facility. I showed them the problem in 2 minutes. They tried to argue that it was tubes, but after a complete tube replacement that was highly unlikely. In the end, I walked out with a new amp. Customer satisfied, but not without stress and having to force them to listen. The new amp sounds great and no problems so far. If you buy and need repair in warranty, be prepared to fight if need be.

        great potential powerhouse

Comments about Egnater Tourmaster Series 4100 100W All-Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I have owned mine for over a year, I had a problem early on with overdrive one channel that caused a significant loss of volume and drive. there was also a low level hum coming from the power tranny. I had to pay to ship the amp to a service tech that Egnater recommended. I got the amp back and was told it need to have a bad tranny replaced, the hum was gone, but the OD 1 channel still had the same problem. Egnater stepped up and paid the shipping cost to have the amp reserviced at there shop and they found a potentiometer that needed to be replaced. Since then I have had no problems and I truly enjoy the many options this amp offers for adjusting tone and running the amp at different power levels. I never tire of experimenting with the endless potential it has.

Don't Think About It, Just Buy It!!

        By The Fallen Idols

        from Boise, ID

Comments about Egnater Tourmaster Series 4100 100W All-Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Let me start off by saying that I have had this amplifier for two years and I have had the time to put it through its paces. After over a 72 5 hour shows, dozens of rehearsals, and two full length records later it needs to visit the amp tech for servicing. To me that is quality. I have owned several amps over the years (Mesa Boogie Strategy rack series, Bugera 333XL, Mesa Dual Rectifier Tremoverb, Soldano SLO, Fender, etc. ) and the Egnater never ceases to amaze me. The first thing that I need to stress about this amp is it has the best clean tone on the market today. It is harmonically rich with a smooth character that is like a fine whiskey. I stacked it up to a vintage 1970's Fender Super Six which, with it's six ten inch speakers and fantastic all tube circuit provides an iconic and delicious tone which is to die for. The Tourmaster spanked it hands down. No joke. The Egnater's clean sounds better than a coveted, vintage Fender amp. On clean vintage 2 I can nail great vintage crunch tones, rockabilly, classic rock, and that elusive Marshall Plexi tone with ease. Overdrive One puts you into the modified JCM 800 arena and can dish out singing overtones with string definition and clarity. OD channel 2 is a little bit more of an enigma... it is more like an SLO with more balls... great lead tone. The contour feature on each channel is great although I rarely use them. A warning to the metal heads out there... if you are looking for a high gain beast to make your guitar sound like a duffel bag of cats going through a wood chipper, this amp isn't for you. The gain structure is very conservative. I play high energy original hard rock, along the lines of Guns N Roses/Nickelback/etc and it fits the bill perfectly.

My Egnater Tourmaster 4100 Amp has been plagued with problems. It has never been dependable. It Constantly blew internal and external fuses. The sound comes and goes and even plays by itself without a cord plugged in it. Egnater was helpful at first and then switched on us. It was a bad purchase and I will never buy Egnater brand equipment again. Maybe you will have better luck.

        FANTASTIC!!

Comments about Egnater Tourmaster Series 4100 100W All-Tube Guitar Amp Head:

1000 words does not seem sufficient to describe this amp but I will do my best. I purchased this amp last summer after saving for a few months and trying out many different amps. I knew the cleans would blow me away, as always with my 79 strat and a high end head. However, the distortion I got with no pedal and single coil pickups was amazing as well. The power grid on the back is designed so that you can get the best sound output in any type of environment, I keep it on 10 watts in my bedroom and crank it 100 when I'm playing large venues. The only issue I've had with the piece is weight. The head is around 80 pounds and therefore is somewhat difficult to bring from my house to band practice, and back. Otherwise, recording has been great with the amp, and I use Egnaters 4x10 slante cab which produces great highs and lows. The countour switch on every channel also works to add an extra boost to your music. The footswitch allows you to dial in every channel and switch between them efficiently. The tubes are extremely high quality and warm up beautifully after a couple minues of playing. Overall, incredible product that competes, and in many cases blows away many higher end Marshalls and Mesa Boogies

Comments about Egnater Tourmaster Series 4100 100W All-Tube Guitar Amp Head:

The Egnater Tourmaster 4100 head is the perfect unit for any guitarist who craves versatility and all natural tube sound from an amp. The four channels with selectable power provide cleans that would make a Fender Twin Reverb jealous, and higher gain sounds that rival any Mesa or Marshall I auditioned. I am not a big fan of the built in master reverb, but it is selectable on the footswitch which is kind of nice. Also the amp weighs a ton, so plan on getting a road case with handles on the side so it can be carried by two hands. Other than that this amp has been remarkable for me in my set-up, and I am able to dial in any sound I need for any style of music I am playing.
