Overview

Sure it's tiny, but do not mistake it for a toy. The Rebel-20 from Egnater is a truly professional amp head with features and sound that are anything but small. Inside you'll find 3 GrooveTubes 12AX7 preamp tubes, a pair of GrooveTubes EL84 power tubes, and a pair of GrooveTubes 6V6 power tubes. Not only do you get the signature Egnater TIGHT and BRIGHT voicing switches, you also have wide-range gain control that lets you go from bluesy clean up to roaring high-gain lead all using a single gain knob.

The Watts control lets you turn the Rebel 20's power from 20 watts to 1 watt for bandstand to bedroom volume. This guitar amp head also includes a professional-quality effects loop that doesn't "suck tone." But the coolest feature of the Egnater Rebel-20 is the TUBE MIX control”an Egnater first. With the TUBE MIX knob turned counterclockwise you get the classic American sound of the 6V6 power tubes. Set the Rebel 20's knob full clockwise to experience the more aggressive, British sound of the EL84 tubes. For the first time, you can blend the 2 types of tubes in any proportion you wish to create a truly signature sound.

    The Rebel Rocker

    By Mark Fowler

    from Minnesota

Comments about Egnater Rebel-20 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I played this amazing little amp for 2 hours straight when I received it. Tried the mix knob in all positions but liked it best in the middle blending both output tubes. Crank the gain knob to 2 o'clock position and the amp sings all day long. The is the best amp I have now. I also have trainwreck Express Clone, Dr Z Stangray, Fender Blues Deluxe, Fender Tremolux Clone, Fender Super Reverb, Line6 Flextone I 212, Fender Deluxe 90, Carvin SX200 4-12, and Fender FM 212. The Rebel puts them all of them in the closet for rock tone, using the DR Z for cleans with 212 blues. Great amp.

    Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!

    By Jake

Comments about Egnater Rebel-20 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I traded my Mesa Single Rectifier and Marshall 1960 cab for the Rebel and the Tourmaster 2X12 cab. I feel bad because I feel like i ripped Guitar Center off. This amp is incredible. Anything you need is here. Sparkling clean, bluesy breakup, vintage plexi tone......you name it. The only thing this amp isnt great for is Hardcore Metal. Effects Loop works great too!!! I would recommend anyone looking for an amp to try this one a couple of time before they make up their mind. It may look tiny but it keeps up with the big boys for sure. Loud enough for any guitar situation.

    REBEL with a cause!!!

    By Geojett

    from Cincinnati, OH

Comments about Egnater Rebel-20 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I bought this amp and the two matching 12" speaker cabinets. There may be some out there that would say this is a little pricey for a 20 watt and two 12" speakers .... but, not this proud owner of and instant classic in the amp world! The REBEL fits like a glove... a fine leather glove... in the environments where it was built to be used. There areas where it shines, first, when you take it home and turn it full clockwise the power that 20 watts can generate is truly amazing! Not only can you make it loud but the tone you generate makes you think that this is a Class A amp. Sonic beauty! When someone in the far distances of you house comes to say, "Turn it down"... well, go ahead. Park the "watts" knob mid-way on 10 watts or even 5, 2 or 1. It still sounds GREAT. Now you can sound as if you are running full throat WITHOUT HAVING TO USE AN AMP BRAKE!!! Secondly, at small venues just open it up and let it ROAR. It is THE small venue amp for its price. And moving this amp and speakers around can be done by even by a kid. Last, if you have an area that is larger than 20 watts can handle just mike this mini beast. There is one small distraction some may point one. As you turn the watts down from 20 watts the dynamic range gets progressively more compressed. This is not the amps short coming, it's just the laws of physics! However you want to put it this amp is a ROCKING AMP full of tone. In an age where finding a place to practice and not get arrested for disturbing the peace you can play at volumes with the amp pushing the tubes near max and still be on friendly sonic terms with your family, neighbors and the law...:-)

    Rebel=Phenomenal

    By Tom D

    from LA (Lower Alabama)

Comments about Egnater Rebel-20 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Only had the rebel for a couple of days, but I am impressed. The tube mix is a great feature---lets you get a custom tone without being one dimensional. I like the mix between the EL84s and 6V6s. At one watt, this thing cranks! Turn up the gain and look out. Unless you are playing Pauley Pavillion, the Rebel would perform in any small venue. Variety of tones and great ones they are. Very articulate and clean---dirties up well. Paired it with a Tourmaster 2x12 and get nice low end. The Rebel is no toy---it is a serious piece of gear. There are amps with more features, but for a simple, great sounding amp, you can't go wrong. GO REBEL!

    Rebel 20

    By Rob H.

    from Hampton, VA

Comments about Egnater Rebel-20 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I bought this amp a week ago. The more you experiment, the better it gets. Great tube tone, lots of gain, effects loop, the loudest 20 watt amp I've ever heard. A 70's tube amp brought up-to-date. The only change I'd suggest is to add reverb and maybe jacks for headphones / line out. I use a Digitech RP150 for reverb/delay in the effects loop and it just roars. Best amp I've ever owned in my 35 years of playing.

Comments about Egnater Rebel-20 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I'm alway's buying and selling amplifier heads, constantly "chasing a new sound" as I am primarily a recording guitarist that also plays about 2 shows a month.I have fender, marshall, carvin, mesa boogie, butler hand made amps....and this amp has all the sounds of any of these.....If you want to be versatle with your sound? buy this amp...I have just recently been using it on stage and it took a few sound checks to tame the lion , but now I've got it down....and of course...guitarist are coming to me after the sets and want to know what the hell is pushing my "wall of sound"...they are amazed!!!....The history of egnater is that he personaly makes random visits to the factory unanounced to make sure there is no quality breaches on the line....he also was the founder of rocktron products....his shop is in detroit and he teaches how to build tube amps....with a great passion for amps as a founder ....You can't go wrong with him standing behind his product...

    Absolutely awesome!!!

    By Jim

    from Akron, OH

Comments about Egnater Rebel-20 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I just bought the Rebel and I am still in awe!! How can such a diminutive amp head sound so huge?? The main thing that sold me on this amp was the high gain articulation. You can max out the gain knob to achieve the most perfect, warm, smooth distortion ever while at the same time clearly hearing every note in a chord perfectly. This is the most articulate sounding high gain amp ever. I have owned a Fender Supersonic, an Orange Rocker 30 and a Traynor YCS50. The Rebel has a more satisfying dirty sound than any of them. Buy it!!

    By Aron

Comments about Egnater Rebel-20 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Slight exageration, but I just spent 5 hours playing this thing. I work full time, go to school full time and have a 3 year old. I have no time, but this amp made me sit still for 5 hours and play. After 22 years of playing, finally there is an affordable boutique amp for the masses. Get on board before they raise the price.

Comments about Egnater Rebel-20 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Great sounding amp except the noise! If they can clear up the hiss this would be an awsome amp. Very touch sensitive, has a nice chime to the highs and throaty on the crunch. I would still recommend it to those looking for a fun amp head.

    re: tone to the bone

    By Steve evetS

    from Granville, Ohio

Comments about Egnater Rebel-20 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Don't know if can say anything that hasn't already been posted about this killer little head. I am running this thru a 60 Watt 2x12 Marshall 2061cx cabinet loaded with Celestion G12H reissue speakers and it sounds perfect for that 70's rock, or blues kinda thang. Also looks great because the Marshalls grille cloth matches the Egnaters grille cloth if that matters to you. Buy without fear, this head has done great in all the "shoot outs" and is a "guitar pick" from Guitar Player magazine.

Amazing amp in a small package

    By Jon

    from California

Comments about Egnater Rebel-20 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I just got this amp a couple of days ago and I am impressed. I tested out a bunch of amps in guitarcenter, but this one excelled. Not only did it sound the best in my price range, it was also the most versitile. The tube mix knob is a cool feature that adds alot to the sound. The watt knob lets gives me amazing overdrive in my little bedroom. Don't be fooled by it's size though... It is easily heard over the drums and by the rest of the neighboorhood. Overall, an amazing package at a great price. Get one!

I recently disproved the phrase "you get what you pay for" because this amp is amazing for a little amount of cash. The sound is dynamic and flexible. When I played for my guitar teacher he guessed that I payed around 2 grand for the head. THIS AMP ROCKS

Great amp at a reasonable price

    By Jeff Kilgore

    from Georgetown, Texas

Comments about Egnater Rebel-20 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I bought a Rebel-20 and the Egnater 112X speaker cab about a month ago and have been very pleased with it so far. It sounded very good out of the box, but I did replace the preamp tubes after a couple of weeks, which made it sound even better. I put a JJ ECC83S with gold-plated pins in V2 (which really would normally be called V1 in a typical schematic), a JJ ECC83S in V1, and a JJ ECC83S with matched triodes in V3 (the phase inverter tube). I can get a variety of sounds from the Rebel-20, and there is quite a bit of clean headroom when needed. I'm kind of all over the musical map lately, with stuff like Neil Young/Crazy Horse, Chuck Berry, rockabilly, Byrds, reggae, and blues. This amp is a nice complement to my other amps (Fender Blues Junior and Vox AC4TV), though I use the Rebel-20 more than the other amps now. It also records very well. I usually mic it with a Shure SM57, and sometimes also use a Shure KSM32 for some room ambience. It also sounds nice through my Ibanez 4x12 speaker cab, though I usually prefer the Egnater 112X cab for most music. The tube mix control, while subtle, is useful. I tend to mostly play it either in the middle or full EL84. The only effects I use are a digital delay (mostly for snapback), and occasionally an octave generator, along with an Alesis compressor in the effects loop, for that Roger McGuinn sound. All in all, it's a great amp for my music at a reasonable price. If I could only keep one of my amps, it would definitely be the Rebel-20. BTW, a friend played some rockabilly on his Gibson J45 through my Rebel-20 and was blown away by it. He just wanted to try it out, and he ended up playing almost two hours (until 2 AM, he just couldn't stop playing!). If you're looking for a nice all-tube guitar amp at a decent price, check out the Rebel-20. There's no one amp that is right for everybody, but you should give this amp a try if you're in the market for an amp in its price and power range.

    And The Winner Is...

    By CT

    from Murrieta, CA

Comments about Egnater Rebel-20 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I bought a Rebel 20 new and used Egnater Tourmaster 2x12 closed back cabinet. What an awesome combination. I generate 90% of my tone from my pedal board (Menatone Blue Coller, Fulltone OCD, and Boss SD-1) - I needed an amp with versatile wattage and small enough to push the speakers at higher volumes in small venues (typical bar jobs). I went solely on the recommendation of the sales person at GTC San Marcos - and he was right on the money. I plugged in all my gear, fired it up, and in about 15 minutes had the tone I was looking for at a wide variety of volumes. I am not sure if I will miss having the reverb (outdoor gigs, etc), so I am going to pick up an Alesis Nano Verb which will nest in nicely next to the head. I have been through a few amps, but I have the feeling I just bought the one you NEVER sell!!

    spectacular!!!

    By shawn

    from grand prairie, texas

Comments about Egnater Rebel-20 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I love this amp. Its shocking how freakin loud a true 20 watts can get. The cleans are crystal clear and the gain really gets dirty. but its the response of the amp thats so impressive and the ability to blend the tubes is awesome. The only drawback is not having 2 channels and a footswitch. For the price of the head and once you buy a cab your 700 or 800 in, and you should definetly have those options at that price range.
