Think of this pickup as a brand-new version of the original Frankenstein's battle-worn guitar pickup, wound to the exact original specs and built to fit in any humbucking-pickup-equipped guitar. One of the most famous humbuckers of all time is now available at a competitive price and serves as a great upgrade and alternative to the popular crop of cliché replacement humbuckers.

i built a "partscaster" a few days ago. kind of a "frankenstrat" meets charvel SoCal, and no matter what amp i plugged into the brown sound was there, its incredible! it also cleans up very well. just plugged it into a 100 watt Marshall super-lead plexi and heard it in its natural environment. my GOD!! its so warm and punchy. the articulation of the notes are to die for. its like a kick to the chest. this pickup is gangbangin, best humbucker ever made, period.
This Frankenstein pickup will let you stop fiddling with the amp settings and just play, because it sounds that good! After install and string stretch I played for a solid hour because the sound and response was so wonderful. I was inspired and happy and really in the moment. I could not get a bad sound out of this thing! I put the guitar down because I was physically tired, I still wanted to keep playing! Wife said I looked like a kid at Christmas after gettin' what he really wanted. It lacks in no department and turning down the guitar volume pot gets it cleaned up with just enough crunch, when on a high gain amp. Swapped pickup into a G&L Rampage Tribute Jerry Cantrell and used EVH strings as well. The old pickup was a G&B from Korea and did decent, but the Frankenstein P/U is in a whole new class of greatness. If in doubt about which new humbucker to buy, my vote is for EVH Frankenstein.
Just had Guitar Center install this pickup into my 1985 Kramer Baretta. I've had a Seymour Duncan JB in it for 25 years, and it sounds like I have a new guitar. It sounds through my amp the way this guitar was always intended to sound. Everything you've read and more should be said about this pickup. Best purchase I've ever made.
i had guitar center install this EVH Pickup, the sound is Amazing, when you play a lead solo ,the notes are so so clear with great clarity and tone, but most important great distortion, you get a real PRO Sound,it doesnt matter if you like van halen the sound is just awesome for playing any kind of music, the tone is the best i ever heard on any guitar im playing it on amplitube 3 and it kicks butt, amplitube 3 sounds awesome with this pick up you do hard metal to verry soft rock it sounds great,im more than 100% pleased, its that good, i played 7 1/2 hrs straight and didnt want to stop it was that good ,tune down to D tuning it is killer for thrash or zake wyld sound, the best part was when i did apashia from Europe the tone for the solo was so clear, i couldnt believe the sound i was getting ,i did boston it sounded excellent,i did easy lover from phil collins it was perfect distortion, this pickup is the best you wont come even close getting a muddy sound in amplitube3 with this pickupjust pure great tone
Amazing pickup. I have at least 7 different humbuckers from Seymour to swap in and out, just to play with sound combinations. This Frankenstein pickup is not gonna ever leave the bridge position. I had a Screamin Demon in it before this. JB before that. This thing has a lot more punch than either one of those two. More mids, better bass response and the false harmonics and squeals I can get with it are fantastic. Plus wiring it is very straightforward. There is a single outer braided ground and a single lead to the master volume. That's it. No green and bare to the ground, hot to the pot and the red and whites twisted together. NONE of that. You'll never want to go back after installing it if you like gain, punch and responsiveness when you attack the strings.
I recently purchased and installed an EVH Frankenstein humbucker in my homemade "frankie". I have owned many different types of humbuckers over the years as I have been trying to find the best "brown" sound. I was so shocked when I plugged in and played for the first time. I cannot stop playing my guitar ever since I installed the EVH pickup. This is quite simply the best pickup I have ever heard/owned. AMAZING clarity, harmonics, overtones, sustain, and tone. GREAT lows, mids, and highs. If you want to sound like early EVH....you MUST, I repeat, you MUST own this pickup. Buy it right now!!!
Reviews of this are always good, I will be purchasing one soon for my own EVH Frankenstrat. Most EVH players like me, have been using the George Lynch 'Screamin' Demon' pickup by Semour Duncan, as that was the closest to the "EVH Brown Sound" one could get, however, I read a review that says this pick up is so mich bettter than the George Lynch Pup.
This is a direct swapout for a SD pickup. The thing is much more sensative then the std SD in my 1990 Jackson USA SL2H. The connecting wires are a size thicker. The sound quality has greatly improved. If you are trying for the brown sound this may get you what you want. It is a big step up from a SD or a EMG in my book.
