It slams! It slices! It dices! It rocks! 3-channels, more gain (SEVEN preamp tubes!)than I thought possible, and tone from the heavens. I play rock, classic rock and some blues and this amp delivers tone galore. Our sound man hadn't heard of this amp and couldn't stop talking about it in between sets! The sealed 212 cab (inside the combo)loaded with Celestion Greenbacks and a Resonance control is sheer genius: 412 cab sound in a smaller (though not light) package. Power Scaler gives THE tone at ANY volume level! You want Fender shimmer? It's there! Want just a little grit or Plexi-smooth grind? It's there! Full blown Eddie "Brown Sound"? More than that? Look no further! Simply put: I love this amp!

This is my second review of this product because the first one that I got was sent back because it broke. I received the replacement and when I opened the box in noticed that there was a box inside the box. The inside box was a evh box which was completely damage, so I guess musicians friend thought this would be fine sending me a broken amp for the second time. Well anyways, beyond my better judgement I took it out and plugged it in, and let me say this is what happened when I plugged it in for the first time. Channel one no power, channel two half power and channel three was ok. I wrote a email to fender looking for help, they were useless, telling they test the amp twice before it leaves the factory, ya right. Hey Eddie you do realize your name is on this product right?
I think the some consumers are ok with getting subpar quality for their hard earned money but not me

Comments about EVH 5150III 2x12 50W Tube Guitar Combo Amplifier:

This amp is a MONSTER...here's the trick....most guitarist THINK the have a good ear BUT they don't. So they try too dial in a sound but have no idea how to work their guitar controls into the mix. OPEN YOUR EARS AND YOU SHALL HEAR THE TRUTH...This amp is without excuses!!!...it is HEAVY in weight....(Worth the weight in GOLD)....the variations in genres you get with this amp is unreal...So like I said if you have a good ear and use the controls of your guitar properly I just gave you the key to your NEW FOUND WORLD OF TONE!!!!!!!

Comments about EVH 5150III 2x12 50W Tube Guitar Combo Amplifier:

If anything this amp is underrated. The clean channel is ok. Not special but not horrible. The strength of this amp is channels 2 and 3. You can play rock, hard rock, classic rock or metal no problem. The greenbacks are a great match. The built in attenuator is great, works as promised, and definitely worth going from the 1x12 combo to this. Definitely gig worthy. More important, the attenuator allows you to get great tones at low volume. Last point, you don't have to sound like EVH. You can dial I great British and hi gain American tones. This is a very good hi gain amp.

Time will tell

Comments about EVH 5150III 2x12 50W Tube Guitar Combo Amplifier:

Received this amp two weeks ago. Fifteen minutes into playing it Channel 3 (distortion channel) blew out and quit working. Had to send it back which equates to two weeks when I received the replacement today. The new one seems to be working fine so far. I gave it four stars because there's bound to be a lemon in a production run. This amp is LOUD. It's much louder than the Marshall JCM2000 halfstack I traded in for it. It has three channels. Clean channel produces those nice clear Fender clean tones. Two is the Crunch channel which gives that classic AC/DC tone. Three is the 'brown sound' and is heavily distorted depending on how you dial it up. This amp eliminates the need for the overdrive/distortion and metal zone pedals I had to use before. The ability to dial the wattage from 1-50 is the best and most unique feature of the amp. The craftsmanship of the exterior of the amp is top notch. I bought the ivory cabinet. I've read two complaints about the amp and they're both true. It's HEAVY. 80 lbs. but has casters that makes it easy to roll around. In reality it is much larger than you would think just from looking at the picture. Two, on the distortion channel it really hisses, even when there are no effects channeled through it. I don't like noise gates so the hissing is something I can live with. In conclusion, if you want a high quality sounding amp with three channels that is loud this is the one for you.

Good Overall Amp

By Morty5150

About Me Experienced

Comments about EVH 5150III 2x12 50W Tube Guitar Combo Amplifier:

Let me start by saying this amp is loud. I had an early run of the first EVh 5150 III amps 100 watt or 120 watt head, I forget, and got rid of it because it was just too loud to get the right sound out of the amp for everyday play. The new combo amp is not as loud, due to the attenuator option, but again in order to get this amp to sound great you need to turn the attenuator to at least 9/10 o clock and push the volume to about 7, at that level the amp sounds great but is still really really loud. The amp itself is pretty noisy even with the volume pot on my guitar off, it is a little hissy on channel 2, channel 3 is noisy as hell and I don't use it, too much distortion even at the lowest level of distortion instant noise when the channel is engaged. I actually like the clean channel and use the gain to play some blues/rock. The reverb is ok and usable I use it as opposed to putting a reverb pedal in the loop, the only effect I currently run in the loop is a delay. The biggest drawback to this amp are the weight, hiss/noise and volume. Volume you say, but what about the attenuator? Well the problem with the attenuator for me is that if you turn it all the way down the sound on all of my guitars is thin and wah wah ish/phasey it just sounds bad, especially on the high e and b strings, hard to explain. I think you need to play this amp loud for it to sound good, but the volume at which it starts to sound good is loud for everyday playing even with the attenuator. The amp hits you in the chest and thumps, it is a beast. The resonance function on the back helps as well to attain a good tone at a lower volume. Just my opinion, I would recommend this amp but you have to like to play hard rock to appreciate it. I got mine used for nine hundred and feel comfortable with the amp at that price, but at the list price think it is overpriced. I recommend it and also think you need to tweak it to your guitar and taste, I actually hated the recommended EVH settings for my gear sounded nothing like EVH, but then again I cant play like Ed. Use your own settings/ear and good luck!

Comments about EVH 5150III 2x12 50W Tube Guitar Combo Amplifier:

Purchased this amp new took it out of the box and it had an inch long dent in the right side of the cabinet. It would have had to of happened at the factory because the outside box was undamaged.
It seems to me EVH and Fender have a quality control problem with their products not made in this country I also purchased a Wolfgang Special (made in China the amp is made in Mexico) and had to send back two of those because of a defective bridge on one and a bridge pickup that did not work at all on the other. I can say the amp does work as advertised but I' not buying any more of their product.

I have always wanted a smaller sized amp for home but with power tubes and the same punch from a half stack. This amp will do it twice as loud, twice as crunchy, and much cleaner tone than the others this size!

Comments about EVH 5150III 2x12 50W Tube Guitar Combo Amplifier:

Upon receiving amplifier, it was delivered from UPS to my front door, using a hand truck dolly from delivery person because of the weight. My only complaint about this amplifier thus far, is the actual weight. If you are into gigging, plan on needing help with this amplifier, it is that heavy. It does have casters/wheels (which actually are quite small for the weight of the amp), and possibly under rated for this amout of weight (in my opinion) and it also has side handles also. Good luck lifting this amplifier more than a couple feet off the ground without breaking your back. I am surprized that the container/package did not have any damage, seeing that it was shipped from Mexico (I think) and from all the aspects of transportation of getting it to my home in Minnesota. Once I got it out of the box and inspected it for any signs of physical damage etc., there was not even a minor cosmetic smudge or mark, which is something I was expecting as I had purchased the Ivory White amp. I did not find anything out of the ordinary. Good packaging. I just hope it operates as intended because there have been a couple reviews that stated there was damage from shipping or amplifier did not work as intended etc. I just received this amplifier and have not even plugged into to it, to try it out yet, I'll be back for a follow-up on that. Cheers!

I am a novice compared to most...but I know what sound I like. Played through a jcm2000....great amp! Mesa boogie express...nice but not my sound. The 5150 iii gives me a lot of different options....takes pedals well (mxr carbon copy, phase, flanger) in the effects loop. The resonance adjustment gives that extra low end boost at low volumes...love the wattage adjustment......crank up the volume and turn down the wattage to get a good tone without the wife threatening you. I play an esp ltd ec2000 and a strat deluxe.. Both sound great on this amp. This amp is very solid and well built.
