Overview

A mighty sonic force to be reckoned with, the EVH 5150III 15W LBX is an easy-to-carry "lunchbox" guitar amp head but don™t let its diminutive size fool you; it's packed to the gills with searing tone. Armed with five ECC83S (12AX7) and two EL84 tubes for incredible high gain sound, it performs like an arena-filling champ. Two flexible channels, the famous EVH Blue "Crunch" and Red "Full Burn," combine with the familiar low/mid/high/presence tone controls and 1/4 power switch so you can easily dial-in your own roaring Variac-less "brown" sound. Dial up a tasty crunch for rhythm work and then when it' time for a face-melting solo, stomp on the included footswitch to call up an intense lead tone with tons of singing sustain. For colossal tone and serious crunch in a compact package, look no further than the EVH 5150III 15W LBX.

Comments about EVH 5150III 15W Lunchbox Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I picked up this amp (5150III LBX) at Guitar Center Tampa. It was the store display model so I got a few bucks off. I was impressed in the store and couldn't wait to get this thing home to really check it out. Well I must say this amp has continued to impress me over and over again! I also own the 5150III 50 watt version that I bought used off the GC website. It's a great amp as well but for some reason it seems lacking in a way I can't really describe. With the LBX I get plenty of that great EVH crunch at fairly low gain settings. It allows my fingers to fly over the fretboard. With the 50 watt model, I struggle to get that feeling. It seems I am having to drag the amp along instead of it pushing me along. If any of that makes sense.....
Plus this amp is just about as loud as the 50 watt version. I don't use the 50 watter volume over about 10 o'clock so the LBX at about 12 or 1 o'clock is perfect for my stage volume. 15 watts is 70% as loud as 50 watts. And you get that all important, sweet power tube breakup in the mix. Plus with the Resonance control on the back of the amp you can make it sound huge! I have experimented and found the Celestion Creamback 75 in an open back cab sounds better than a Marshall 4x12 with Greenbacks. I own both cabs and the 4x12 just doesn't cut it. Moral of the story is I carry this little amp and a 1x12 cab, plus my effects and cables, and I'm done!! Easy set-up and break-down! That's what I'm talking about!!

Comments about EVH 5150III 15W Lunchbox Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I sold my old Peavey 5150 combo to get this amp. FOr one my old amp weighed a ton so the portability was refreshing . The most important thing though is the sound. Mind you I LOVED my Peavey 5150 combo but this amp just has a crisper or what I call a cleaner distortion. More crunch less fizz. Sounds great just plugged straight in no pedals needed. That being said I do use a delay and reverb in the loop and they only add to the versatility of this amp. If you use the blue channel and turn your volume knob down on your guitar you can get a (dirty) clean out of it. Turn up the gain and you can get that old Van Halen sound . The red channel is great for anything heavier . This amp does not sound thin or cheap . I know its only 15 watts but this could easily be used for gigging . Even in the 4 watt mode this amp gets plenty loud. I never thought I would replace my old 5150 but this amp was worth it.

Comments about EVH 5150III 15W Lunchbox Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I owned an older Peavey 5150 combo . Everyone knows those things are tanks. I loved that amp just so hard to move around. Plus I kind of wanted to simple downsize . I hardly play clean so I did not need a clean channel amp anyway. If you use the blue channel on this amp and turn the volume knob on your guitar down you can actually get a decent clean out of this. Comparing this to my older 5150 its has way less fizz and more what I like to call clean distortion. It seems less compressed than my previous 5150. I like both the amps but this being so compact and sounds amazing. I used to use a Sonic Maximizer and Mxr 10 band EQ in the loop of my old amp . I actually prefer to just plug in and play with this one . It just sounds so raw and oraganic . Blue channel gets you those early Van Halen tones. Or that more rock Marshall sound . The red channel is loaded with more crunch that you will ever need. IF hard rock or Metal is your thing this amp is perfect for that. I would give it 5 stars but its hard for me to give anything 5 stars .
