Eddie's new favorite color: all-black with ebony fretboard.

In the quest to design an especially sleek all-black addition to the Wolfgang series, Eddie Van Halen decided to try something he previously wasn't known to prefer-an ebony fingerboard. Well, he tried it, and he liked it so much that the resulting guitar-the Wolfgang Stealth-now resides at the very forefront of his arsenal.

Features include an arch-top basswood body, quartersawn maple neck with dual graphite reinforcement rods, compound radius (12"-16") ebony fingerboard with 22 vintage-style stainless steel frets, dual hard-mounted EVH Wolfgang humbucking pickups with three-position switching, dual Bourns low- (volume) and high-friction (tone) potentiometers, EVH-branded Floyd Rose locking tremolo with EVH D-Tuna, black hardware, EVH-branded 14-1 Gotoh chrome tuners with pearloid buttons, Schaller chrome string retainer and EVH molded-stripe case by SKB.

  • Amazing

As reviewed by Eric Guerena on 8/2/2012

The guitar is loaded with features, sleek frosty black look, and amazing tone. The quality and reliability seem to be great... but I have owned the guitar for less than a month. It was the most expensive instrument I have ever purchased so I was nervous but after the first play (I did try it out in the store but ended up ordering one online months later when I made my mind up) I was blown away. I really enjoy this instrutment and plan to have it forever.

  • Stealth wealth

As reviewed by Paul Berman on 5/6/2013

This guitar has it all. US made, nice look, top-end EVH hardware, D-Tuna, Wolfgang pickups. It plays like a dream. Ebony fingerboard looks great, but does give a bit more of a twang. Not sure why they didn't go with jumbo frets, but it is still easy to play. The Floyd rose only dives. Doesn't "float." Not a problem for me. I don't love the shape of the guitar, but you get used to it. Much lighter in weight than my Gibson. If you like Eddie's sound, this is your best bet. The look of the Stealth is the best in the EVH lineup in my opinion. Price is high, but not unreasonable for a guitar made at Fender's Coranodo, CA Custom Shop.

  • Good sound

As reviewed by Dave on 5/6/2015

Good sound. The upper body cutout is adjacent to the 15th / 16th fret which obstructed my thumb when reaching for the upper frets. When resting the guitar on my right leg, the contour of the lower body positioned the guitar further to my right (compared to a Strat body style). I needed to hold the guitar like a nylon string classical guitar to get a comfortable playing position when sitting down. The Floyd Rose bridge rests against the body of the guitar. If the tremolo bar is released quickly, the bridge will snap back against the body and make a loud knock. This is something to be aware of for anyone used to playing a guitar with a floating Floyd Rose bridge design. I give a 5 star rate rating for the sound of the Wolfgang. Unfortunately, I didn't love the other features.
