  • This is THE amp!

As reviewed by Rick Vail on 5/9/2013

It slams! It slices! It dices! It rocks! 3-channels, more gain (SEVEN preamp tubes!)than I thought possible, and tone from the heavens. I play rock, classic rock and some blues and this amp delivers tone galore. Our sound man hadn't heard of this amp and couldn't stop talking about it in between sets! The sealed 212 cab (inside the combo)loaded with Celestion Greenbacks and a Resonance control is sheer genius: 412 cab sound in a smaller (though not light) package. Power Scaler gives THE tone at ANY volume level! You want Fender shimmer? It's there! Want just a little grit or Plexi-smooth grind? It's there! Full blown Eddie "Brown Sound"? More than that? Look no further! Simply put: I love this amp!

  • 4.5 stars, nearly perfect

I'm going to keep this short and to the point. The tones are great on this amp, I favor them over my 100w Mesa Roadster head. That's saying something. This amp is LOUD!! I've had a 100w 2x12 Marshall JVM that sounds half as loud as this 50w head!! Even dialed down to 1w this thing can still rattle the wood and glass in your house. However, there are a few suggestions that I would make to Fender to make this amp perfect: 1) Put an on/off for the Effects Loop on the included foot switch 2) Fix the Standby Switch (on & off reversed, or different from manual) 3) The digital reverb sounds a bit wonky for my tastes (but perhaps only at lower power settings) Overall though, I would recommend this amp to anyone considering buying one.

  • Time will tell

Received this amp two weeks ago. Fifteen minutes into playing it Channel 3 (distortion channel) blew out and quit working. Had to send it back which equates to two weeks when I received the replacement today. The new one seems to be working fine so far. I gave it four stars because there's bound to be a lemon in a production run. This amp is LOUD. It's much louder than the Marshall JCM2000 halfstack I traded in for it. It has three channels. Clean channel produces those nice clear Fender clean tones. Two is the Crunch channel which gives that classic AC/DC tone. Three is the 'brown sound' and is heavily distorted depending on how you dial it up. This amp eliminates the need for the overdrive/distortion and metal zone pedals I had to use before. The ability to dial the wattage from 1-50 is the best and most unique feature of the amp. The craftsmanship of the exterior of the amp is top notch. I bought the ivory cabinet. I've read two complaints about the amp and they're both true. It's HEAVY. 80 lbs. but has casters that makes it easy to roll around. In reality it is much larger than you would think just from looking at the picture. Two, on the distortion channel it really hisses, even when there are no effects channeled through it. I don't like noise gates so the hissing is something I can live with. In conclusion, if you want a high quality sounding amp with three channels that is loud this is the one for you.
