I love the heavy metal of today's arists. And needless to say, 6 strings just get muddy when drop-tuning 4 steps to an A, A# or B tuning. So to get a clearer power chord like in Suicide Silence, Carnifex, Chelsea Grin, Thy Art Is Murder, etc. This ultimatley satisfied ,y craving for amazing clarity, and a knife's edge cutting sound. Of course the amp makes the sound, which I use either a Peavey 6505+, or a Krank "Krankenstein" head with distortion pedal to get that grindcore sound, this guitar truly makes the music! A must buy for all death metal players, and even though the neck is slightly wider and the strings are less flexible for variety, i wouldn't trade it for anything! A 6 out of 5 stars.

I bought this guitar a little of a year ago. I noticed about a month later that the guitar did not come with the Earvana nut like it was advertised to come with. I called esp and guitar center and both were rude and said that it doesnt come with the earvana that its a typo. I tried to explain to them that the earvana was the main sell point for me. But they refused to make it right. I have been disappointed ever since. Also, the pickups arent that great, very flat sound and pinch harmonics dont ring out on this guitar like it does on my others. Guitar looks great and feels nice, if you buy this guitar just remember that it does not come with the earvana nut. And I recommend changing out the pickups to something better.

Ideal 7-String

Comments about ESP LTD MH-417 7-String Electric Guitar:

This thing is great, it's pretty much everything I wanted in my first seven string. Flat black, fixed bridge, no frills. The satin finish not only looks great but makes the neck super fast, I love it. It is so natural to play, it took no time getting used to which I was slightly concerned about. Access to all the frets is literally effortless and I was really surprised by how light this thing is too. If you've played EMG pickups before there's no surprises there. I could see why someone wouldn't like them, but I do.

One stupid and minor pet peeve is that I wish it had a reverse headstock, just for aesthetic reasons. I feel like the M series headstock looks better that way. Oh well! Still an amazing guitar that I love playing

This guitar accels in every aspect. The neck is the perfect width and thickness to feel comfortable yet solid. The pickups are perfect, and the neck thru satin body is the icing on the cake. No complaints

All around fantastic guitar. Esp knows what's up.

    By Chris Kapschock

Comments about ESP LTD MH-417 7-String Electric Guitar:

The super thin neck makes it super easy to jump from far off frets, which is also aided by the smooth, and beautiful looking satin finish. This guitar played amazingly straight out of the box. This is also my first seven string, and the transfer from the six was not difficult at all, mainly because the six strings neck was a little wide as it was, so It was sort of like conditioning for the guitar I really wanted. The only thing you'd want to do with it is set it up, as the intonation doesn't really suck, but can get frustrating if you're playing huge chords, and one string sounds a little out, but that's also due to how much of a stickler I am about being in tune. The EMG's as stated in other reviews are sort of as expected. The bridge 81 I believe it is really does it's job. It shares the volume of hitting multiple strings well. You can hear each string ring out decently clearly, and the 707 has a very warm sound for cleans, but if I had the money, I'd easily get some high end passives thrown in it, because actives vs. passives in the recording and producing spectrum, high end passives will always get less fuzz, and really bring out the sound of the guitar as a whole, rather than being able to throw emg's on a 4x4, and have it sound just as good as a regular guitar with emg's in it. All in all, this guitar is a great buy for the cash.

    I am a believer!

Comments about ESP LTD MH-417 7-String Electric Guitar:

Overall there is nothing wrong with this guitar at all. It plays great, feels great, sounds and looks even better. Only thing I could say I would have liked, would have been a bridge similar to what the Ibanez MTM1 has on it, but that is just personal prefence, and the Ibanez cost twice as much as this one! If you want to step into the 7-string world this is the guitar to start with!
For the price of this 7-string just getting the active EMG's is nice. Plus a mahogany body, not alder, which is a must for me personally. Mahogany + low B string = awesome! Love the sound.
Finish is fantastic. Even for a product that is build in China, it is up to standard. Plus a satin neck finish is always awesome! Smooth.
Undeniably a great value. For a mid-priced guitar it is above the bar in value and playability. The ESP neck is so nice. After years of Jackson, Gibson, and Ibanez guitars I have found a guitar that has sold me on a brand I have never experienced before. It is amazing how smooth it plays even with the extra string. That extra fretboard width just doesn't hinder playability. The neck radius is perfect for my hand.

    This is a SOLID GUITAR

Comments about ESP LTD MH-417 7-String Electric Guitar:

I've been playing 7 string guitars for some time now..I've owned everything from the Ibanez RG Series to the Ibanez S Series to a Schecter 7. Being my 5th and final guitar, I have to say that all around: there is nothing you can't accomplish with this guitar! Matter of fact, I bought a second one as a backup!

    A Pretty Sick 7-string

    By Travis V

    from Allendale, MI

Comments about ESP LTD MH-417 7-String Electric Guitar:

Features: The neck is rather thin and comfortable for a 7-string, its not as fat as the Schecters I tried out. The cut-out allows for easy access to all 24 frets, unlike a 22 fret Jackson RR I own. I am really enjoying the EMGs, mostly because of the warm tones I can get on the neck pickup for soloing/sweeping. Overall, solid 9/10. I wish the strings weren't such light gauge though. Quality & Reliability: I noticed the input jack needs to be pushed in with more force than other ESPs, which I like (A LOT) because the input jack on my F-50 loosens up all the time. Overall 9/10 Look & Feel: The balance and weight are quite comfortable in my opinion. I am kinda used to my off-balance RR (which makes it look sweet as all heck). Even though the neck has finish on it, it is still fast an not sticky. Overall 10/10

Best Upper Entry Level 7 String! A Real Players Review:

    By AllAmericanDJ

    from Cleveland, OH

Comments about ESP LTD MH-417 7-String Electric Guitar:

I love this new addition to my axe collection! The best feature about the guitar is the neck itself. It is fixed (NT) to the body for nice resonance, but the thinness and smooth satin finish on the back of the neck is the best feature of the overall neck playability. The satin finish can be buffed out to shine nicely if desired. I own other seven strings and in comparison to say the Shecter Hellraiser C-7 series which has a very thick and beefy neck that resonates well, but can fatigue your hands quickly, and the Ibenez RG series seven string that has a thin neck like the MH-417, but lacks the dense sustain and feel of the MH-417 being a bolt on neck. And lastly, the famous ESP LTD SC-607 which is similar in all aspects of design, but has a middle pickup that can take time to adjust to and the volume controls are a bit futher away from the bridge pickup. The EMG 81/707 pickups are simply the best, and you can easily switch them around if desired for whatever one you like in bridge or neck. I own all of the above mentioned guitars and love them all. The MH-417 is a great addition to or intro to upper end sounds and playability at a good price without the need to change pickups or do a big setup. It really replicates the high dollar big brother ESP NT-7 model for a fraction of the price.

    Powerful and promising

    By Garrett

    from Roseville California

Comments about ESP LTD MH-417 7-String Electric Guitar:

My first 7 string guitar, I was very impressed with the mobility, extremely light and very easy to play. The sounds are very clean and heavy. I love everything about this guitar so far. The black Satin finish adds a nice moderate visual edge to the guitar. I love how thin the neck is and how easy it is so maneuver with it. You can pretty much get any sound you want out of this guitar, from clean to crunchy heavy. I play technical death metal and I'm enjoying this more and more every day. If you want a good promising guitar that has a wide variety of sound then this is an amazing guitar for your money.

    This Is The Real Deal

    By Eric

    from Federal Way, WA

Comments about ESP LTD MH-417 7-String Electric Guitar:

Straight from the box it plays beautifully. The Strings are SIT strings and have a great fresh feel, the pinch harmonics are clear, and the neck is wide but comfortable. I love ESP guitars or my other treasured Les Paul Gibson, but face it, 6 strings without appropriate gauge strings get floppy, and you lose the high E string when drop tuning to my favorite tuning A-E-A-D-G-B. With this amazing guitar you get to keep the high E string, and get the drop A (or B standard) power chords. This exceeded my expectations, and I absolutely reccomend it to ANYONE. The pick ups are quite a preference than the classic humbucker pick ups. 6/5 stars.
