13 five star reviews. Nothing but five star reviews. Claims that the guitar looks and plays like a $600 guitar. All this and a gorgeous web site photo. So I bought one. Now I'm wondering if the reviews are for a different guitar. First, the photo looks WAY better than the actual guitar. The blue finish is much darker and doesn't let the detail of the wood come through like the photo shows. Not that it looks bad, it just doesn't look as good as the photo. Kind of like going on an internet date and finding that the other person's photo is the best photo they've ever taken in their life. Second, the Floyd Rose fine tuners were nearly frozen. This was the first FR guitar I ever played, so I thought it was normal. Then I bought a used Schecter Omen-FR (for only $100!) and the tuners turned freely. At that point I knew this one was severely wrong. It took some WD-40, a pair of pliers, and all my strength to get them to turn. I don't know if the Chinese dude who installed them just jammed them in there or if the chrome finish made the screws not fit the holes, but it was certainly not something I'd expect from a so-called $600 guitar. Contributing to pissing me off was the fact that in using the pliers to try to turn the tuners, they slipped off and dinged the finish a couple of times, not to mention the damage the pliers did to the tuners themselves. Overall, I'm very disappointed. I'd sell it but looking at what they are going for on eBay, I'd be lucky to get $200. I'll never buy another ESP-LTD and I won't buy another guitar from Guitar Center without playing it first.

Great sound

By Dennis O

from Grants Pass ,Oregon

Comments about ESP LTD MH-103 Quilted Maple Electric Guitar:

I have to say this is a very nice product at a very reasonable price. The sustain for a bolt on neck is unreal. The finish is great looking and the black chrome on the tuners, knobs & the Floyd Rose sets off the maple fret board and the body nicely. I like the deep rich tone of the pups on the lower tone settings and the bright crisp & clean tones on the higher ones. I have small hands and the neck is very comfortable for me to play for hours with no problem. Thanks ESP for a well put together package.

This guitar will do a lot of things: 1) Blow your Mind! 2) Create all sorts of tone! 3) No fret buzz, Floyd keeps in tune no matter how abusive you are on it. 4) Can sound like: Metallica, Pantera, Rage Against the Machine, Limp Bizkit, Nirvana, and anyone else that you can think of. 5) Impress and continue to impress.

amazing guitar!

By Collin

from Comstock park, Michigan

Comments about ESP LTD MH-103 Quilted Maple Electric Guitar:

This guitar is absolutely amazing! It has a reasonable price great for begginers and pros alike. It has many tone options, the floyd rose is amazing, the locking tuners keep it in very well in tune, and it also has slight adjustment tuners on the bridge. Just an amazing guitar great for Steve Vai, Eddie Van Halen, Kirk Hammett, Dave Mustaine, and Marty Friedman tones and styes. A great guitar for sure

Simply Awesome

By MetallicaRULEZ

from Broken Bow, OK

Comments about ESP LTD MH-103 Quilted Maple Electric Guitar:

This guitar is simply amazing! ESP totally outdone themselves with this guitar. Usually esp is a dirty sounding guitar making company but the mh-103 is totally both clean sounding and "dirty" sounding. And sounds JUST like metallica. The Floyd Rose is amazing and keeps it perfectly in tune always. Me being a fan of maple tops.. i think the design is very nice. The neck is very fast and the frets are higher like some ibanez's are which makes the feel of it better. And its a surprisingly light guitar!! This guitar is totally undrepriced and is better than most rediculously high priced guitars. I totally recommend this guitar for beginners intermediates and experts. Definately the best guitar for its price. 5 STARS!!!

Beautiful, affordable guitar

By john bartlett

from Frontenac, KS

Comments about ESP LTD MH-103 Quilted Maple Electric Guitar:

I ordered online and was a little worried but when it arrived, it was better than I thought possible. I had to do a set up on it, I had trouble with intonation with the g-string untill I lowered the action but now it plays as good as it looks. The H-S-S configuration provides different tones for any type of music. The humbucker has a warm, classic rock tone, the middle single has a "strat" chimey tone and the neck gives you a twangy "tele" sound. The blue quilted maple finish with maple fretboard is beautiful and flawless, I have played many "name brand" expensive guitars and this holds its own. Don't think twice, buy it!

Awesome Floyd

By Harrison

from Farmington, MN

Comments about ESP LTD MH-103 Quilted Maple Electric Guitar:

This guitar shreds. the sound quality is great, and the feel of the neck and body is very comfortable. The pickups are very responsive, and pick up almost anything you want, including some sick feedback. The only thing about mine, was when it was shipped to my house, one of the locking screws was already stripped. However, if you take it to your local GC, they'll fix it up for free and you'll have one the best low-priced guitars you'll ever play.

GREAT guitar for the price!!!

By Allan (Chris) Laird

from Marion, Ohio

Comments about ESP LTD MH-103 Quilted Maple Electric Guitar:

I had been on hiatus from playing guitar for several years when I decided I wanted to play again. So, I had a budget in mind when I started "window shopping" on Guitar Center's website. I've always played Ibanez guitars, for 25 years in fact, and I thought that's what I really wanted to get this time as well. Until...I went to G.C. and found this gem for almost half of what I would've paid for a comparable Ibanez model. I still love Ibanez and I mean no disrespect to that company whatsoever. The paint job on this ESP is spectacular and it has to be seen in person to be truly appreciated! The maple neck really makes the colors pop out even more. I play mostly rock and metal so a Floyd Rose tremelo was a must, and it delivers like every other one I've used. The pickups are ample enough. Certainly not the most powerful or diverse but, what do you expect for stock equipment? They're good enough for me and besides, I use a lot of effects anyway to make up for any shortcomings (who doesn't). They perform like a champ as far as I'm concerned. The guitar overall is pretty darn light and I'm very happy with the neck, it's relatively thin and very fast. I couldn't be more pleased with this guitar considering what I paid for it.

Just Buy It!!

By Mark Niece

from Murray Ky

Comments about ESP LTD MH-103 Quilted Maple Electric Guitar:

Im sure most of you that have this guitar will understnad me when I say. "There is no sound you can not pull out of this ax!" Fast neck, strings bend like a willow tree, and the action is unreal. I have had this ax for almost 4 months now and I must say it's way under priced. String replacment for me was a new adventure only because I removed them all before I put new strings on it. Replaceing one string at a time is much easier and faster. I play lots of metal and the light stings I keep useing don't hold up to well. Since the 3rd set of strings I have added the extra spring and a set of heavy strings. Been awsome since, couldn't ask for a better ax!

Color guessing game?

By ERIK

from Las Vegas, NV

Comments about ESP LTD MH-103 Quilted Maple Electric Guitar:

This review has nothing to do with the guitar other than the color, and the apparent difficulties ESP is having in their Quality Control department. Visit to Guitar Center results in falling in love with this guitar. The one hanging on the wall was a beautiful light blue with fantastic quilting. The only problem: the neck was shrunk to the point that every fret was grinding skin on either side of the neck. Las Vegas is rather low humidity, and the guitar had been hanging there for some time, but no other guitar present exhibited this neck shrink. So I placed an order for one instead. Short story, the guitar that arrived 6 days later was a substantially different color. Another "See through blue" ESP had been delivered to the store during this time, but was a borderline green. The short version is that the folks at ESP seem to have difficulty with their paint. Three guitars, all the same model, and all identified as "see-through blue", had substantially different colors going on. I refused the guitar, and am awaiting another one from the factory to see if it is any closer to the color I wanted in the 1st place. I will follow up with another review upon receipt of the next blue question mark guitar.

Comments about ESP LTD MH-103 Quilted Maple Electric Guitar:

Tuners came bottomed out, and strings were harder than most Floyd Roses to change, but it has pretty good tone, my major gripe is how easilly the saddle got stripped. I had to order new ones almost immediately, it sounds great though, wood is solidly built, metal is meh built, just be careful when changing strings, I wasn't. It looks beautiful, but not as good as it does in the picture, and it's a GLOSS finish, not a Matte or Satin like the picture would suggest. The neck is a bolt on satin neck and plays great, 24 frets of killer tone, the strings that come with it are a little low gauge, but it works great. Hope you jam out on this!

Okay if you know nothing about ESP or LTD let me tell you something. This was used by most great metal bands of the 80's. At one point the Big Four all used this brand of guitar and it's great for any type of metal. It's great for anything classic rock, blues, jazz hard rock. Really any type of music that uses guitar this one will make you sound great. For any metalheads reading this get some EMG's but in it i got the 81 and two S' and it sounds god like.

    Awesome guitar!!

    By Matthew Anderson

    from Brownsville, TX

Comments about ESP LTD MH-103 Quilted Maple Electric Guitar:

This is my first electric and I had been looking for one for a while, but none of them seemed to work. I needed something that could give me everything from hard rock to clean worship, and seriously, I don't think you're going to find that for a better price. I would have gladly paid twice as much for this guitar, because that's what it's worth. I won't be buying another one for a while. If you are thinking about buying a guitar for the first time or need another one for any reason, this guitar will definately give you what you need. The humbucker has a very nice balance and doesn't give more grunge than you put into it. The middle single coil has perfect tone for many different styles, and the neck single is clean yet very responsive to every not you hit. The floyd rose gives it amazing sound, and yet stays in tune very well. The tone knob unlike others does not just lay a blanket over the sound, or make it muddy, it really controls how much bass or treble you want. Plus the quilted finish is so beautiful that it's hard to not notice. I definately give this 5 stars!

Comments about ESP LTD MH-103 Quilted Maple Electric Guitar:

I am well pleaseed with this guitars looks and handling. The blue on mine is dark like a turquoise blue. Everyone who has seen it loves the color. I ordered mine through the mail, and it came in tune, with very little adjustment needed to start jammin'. Love being able to access easily all 24 frets, and it stays in tune very well. I've been playing for 40 years, this guitar is a deal.

Comments about ESP LTD MH-103 Quilted Maple Electric Guitar:

There is not one thing this guitar cannot do! Very nice looking beautiful guitar, This baby will stand out in any crowd or gig. I am very very impressed with it. Fantastic tones(Clean or Distorted)Very nice floyd rose special, however i would not recommend this for a beginner simple because floyd's can be a huge pain. Lovely pickup setup allows you to play ANY style of music from county to thrash metal. Center pickup has a nice tele sound and neck has a nice strat sound while the humbucker is very good for playing metal. I would put this guitar up against any other. ESP did a fantastic job with simple as that. I play Jackson and ESP LTD and i will say that this guitar blows most high priced guitars away! I would recommend this for any guitarist just not so much for a beginner. Super Super B!

    Great, but a couple issues...

    By Benjamin Johnston

    from Aurora, CO

Comments about ESP LTD MH-103 Quilted Maple Electric Guitar:

I bought a M-100FM and then picked up the MH-103 a few days later to replace the guitar I originally started learning on. I use both and both guitars have the same issue with the trem arm: it will quickly come lose during use and wobbles quite a bit. Aggressively tightening the back-nut for the arm receptacle on the 100 and swapping out a different arm and it now stays in as long as it's tight. If you let the arm swing lose, it will continue to loosen and get more and more wobbly. The 103 will stay tight for about one song. The 103 will also occasionally stay flat when diving hard, but it seems that pulling the arm back will return it to regular tuning. The bridge doesn't always want to come back all the way. All in all, this is still a great guitar: it's comfortable, sounds great, looks great, and stays in tune (aside from the minor issue above). As a beginner, the trem arm issue isn't really huge. I'm having fun with it.

    I LOVE THIS GUITAR

    By SCOTT

    from Ipswich, MA

Comments about ESP LTD MH-103 Quilted Maple Electric Guitar:

I traded in my old jackson black guitar because I wanted something that was not so dark and scary, this is pretty close to the jason becker carvin model and is sounds and plays amazing. I initially fell in love with the maple neck, blue color, and floyd, but when I plugged in the pickups sound better than any of my other guitars. The only difference I saw from the picture and the one I got was mine sayS "ESP DESIGNED" on all pickups. Anyways it sounds and plays great. You dont need to spend a lot of money to get a nice guitar.

    from Louisville, KY

Comments about ESP LTD MH-103 Quilted Maple Electric Guitar:

I went to my local Guitar Center to look at this Schecter they had on clearance and ended up picking this guitar up because it was in the same price range as the Schecter I was looking at. This thing blew me away. The Floyd Rose on it clearly wasn't any of the cheap stuff you'd see on some other guitars. It was pretty sensitive and worked really smoothly. The pickups sounded great. I was in love with the powerful tone that came out of that humbucker with a bit of distortion and the single coils were spectacular for clean settings. The neck was nice and unfinished, which I loved because it was a lot smoother and allowed faster playing. The guitar was pretty much perfect. It even looked nice. Came with a beautiful transparent blue quilt top.
