This guitar is awesome. It plays so nice and smooth. The jumbo frets rock. The slim neck is fast. The sound is just amazing. I had purchased a Les Paul Epiphone Les Paul Special II but they are uncomfortable when sitting down and the distortion is a bit muddy. Not with this. Very comfortable and light. Distortion is great. Cleans are good too. I'm an intermediate guitarist who just plays at home. But this guitar can fit a lot of different sounds which is why I like it so much. Perfect for the hobbyist.
I have been playing guitar for about 35 years. I have owned many different guitars and never seem to stick with one for long. But this is a really nice guitar well built and good for most styles of music. This is a keeper. This is on par with many of the fender strats I've owned. The reindeer blue is purple. It's purple because esp/ltd reindeer blue is supposed to be purple. Other reviewers seem to think esp/ltd got the color wrong but it's the reviewers who are misinformed. As for the one reviewer complaining about missing strings and dents on the guitar, send it back. My guess is you ordered it had it delivered to your home. It was likely a demo from a store not sent from the dc that's why it was packed poorly. Pay attention when you order. I order my stuff on line for store pick up. That way I can try it, make sure everything works correctly. I can usually get a free set up (if needed) just by being nice and asking. Anyway this is one hell of a guitar it's the one everybody wants to play when they come over. The pickups are standard esp 150's. Nice with similar tone to gibsons 490 series pickups. They have the warmth and growls you would expect. The volume and tone knobs actually make a difference. The black hardware looks great. tuners work well, smooth and hold a tune. Can't think of any player who would not like this guitar.
I traded in some gear so I could get a new guitar today. I wanted a Jackson, fender or schecter. I saw this guitar online before, but seeing it in person it looked even better. I thought it has to play awful for this price, but I was soooooo wrong. This guitar, "I have the reindeer blue", plays better than guitars I have that are over 600 dollars. The playability of this guitar fits me perfectly. The people at G.C. are so awesome, they were exceptionally helpful. I was even more excited because I walked out of the store with this guitar & a couple of hundred bucks to play with. I love U Guitar Center.
The day i got this guitar i had went in to G.C. to get a L.P. or a strat. When i saw this guitar i had to give it a try. I played several L.P.'s and strats but kept going back to this one. It played great and sounded even better so i took it home. I have had some really good guitars over the past 24 years but this one takes the cake. This is a well made guitar. The quality workmanship rivals that of any high end guitar. I have had it for a few months now and love it more each time I play it. This guitar is a true gem.
As a semi-professional guitarist for over 30 years I've owned and played a lot of guitars. I'm now playing a lot of bass but teaching my sons guitar. As we had some more traditional strat types I wanted something a little more aggressive that looked nice, something I would enjoy playing, could be used as a backup and would be good to learn on, this fit the bill 100%. As it had been placed on the top shelf at the store it was basically right out of the box. As I know the tech he said they just got it so he hadn't set it up. Once I got it down no setup was needed. Right about the box the frets were well dressed, the intonation was right on and the action was perfect. One review said the quilt wasn't as nice as the picture... mine is even better. The quilt on this more beautiful than most $2000+ guitars. The pickups are a tad muddy but replacing them in the future is easy... IF I want too. Right now they are more than hot enough for hard rock playing at the house. The guitar is also very light but possibly due to the no trem and string through the sustain is impressive and rivals the much more expensive guitars. Tuners are also precise enough to get a perfect pitch and it hasn't gone out of tune yet once the strings were stretched a little. Weight, build quality, sound and beauty, this little LTD MH100qmnt has it all no matter what your skill level and is a steal at the current price. I would definitely recommend to anyone who asked and plan to do so. I have the Amber but the Blue/Purple is quite nice as well.
My daughter and I went to Guitar Center to buy her first electric guitar. I already own a Gibson LP Custom (highly customized) and a Fender MIM Strat, professionally set up. We had another LTD, one all picked out but just wanted to check a few other guitars in the price range just to make sure. The salesman brought this one in after we had been playing the other for awhile. When I played my first notes I was startled, not only by how good it felt but how good it sounded. I really didn't want to buy this guitar as the other we had picked out was gorgeous. The other one was *good* and needed a touch of fret work. This one? PERFECT. Nothing to do on it AT ALL. So we played this one, some Epihpone SG's, which were ok. We tried an Epiphone LP *in this price range*... NO COMPARISON. This LTD ***killed everything*** else. I don't think it was even close. I looked at the price and couldn't believe it. Very similar to the Ibanez RG series, but no tremolo. Perfect for someone who doesn't want to be chasing the tuning all the time. The strings mount thru the body, so I think it gives it extra resonance. It sound wonderful... better than my Strat, I think. Frankly, I'm jealous. If my daughter asked me to trade her LTD for my Strat I think I'd take her up on it. Simply a wonderful guitar.
I've owned this for about a month now and I really like this guitar, you pick it up to play and it feels great. Especially after playing a strat for 19 years. There are some pros and cons however: Pros - The neck feels thin and fast. The neck pickup is warm and clear, and the bridge pickup is glassy without being shrill like a strat or tele. Distortion sounds killer. The guitar is beautiful, it came with a decently low action from the factory (4/64") on the treble side, with only some slight buzzing at the first few frets. It's a hell of a guitar for under $300 and comes with .010s. Cons - It ain't blue, I'll tell you that. It's purple. The color of the picture above is NOT accurate. I'm actually on my second one of these b/c the first one I returned because there was a slight twist in the neck(bowing more on one side than the other[I'm picky]). The second one I got was fine.
I was definitely blown away when I picked up this guitar and played it for the first time! The neck is so smooth to play, and the pickups don't sound half bad! This is one of my main guitars now! Just replace the bridge pickup with something more hot (I replaced it with a Seymour Duncan Invader) and it will be perfect!
