I got this guitar two days ago and I'm in love with it. The floating bridge is great for divebombs and it's a blast to play. I highly recommend it.

after owning this guitar for quite some time, the best advice i could possibly give is to make sure you know EXCACTLY what you are doing when you get a guitar with a floyd rose and locking tuners. first, you cannot tune the gutiar by the actual tuner pegs, because a very stong locking device is bolted on the neck that cannot be undone with your hands or any standard house tool. you can only tune using the fine tuners on the bridge, but even then you can only adjust the pitch within a very narrow range, meaning you CANNOT tune any of the strings beyond a half step or so. without getting into specifications, the way the floyd is constructed, you have to pick ONE tuning and stick with it. so, if you chose standard, that means, NO drop d, no half step down, nothing except standard eadgbe pitch. Another point,do not buy into the MYTH that your guitar will not fall out of tune, because it will, and very often, and, even with little to no whammy bar use, you have AT MOST two weeks before a string is altered to where it CANNOT be in tune, and you must have a tech fix it. Also, be aware that, because of its complexity, dealers will charge twice or even 3 times as much to restring your guitar than they would for other models, and to have them change the tuning, or even to restring it with a string size different from the previous one (e.g. nines to tens) they will have to adjust the bridge and it will count as a full setup, easily costing you 45-60 dollars. and keep in mind this is done more than or AT LEAST ONCE A MONTH. the only other notable shortcomings that may not be apparnent are the 1. the pickups, which are passive pickups and not as good as active pickups, however, you cannot place active pickups in this guitar, they will not fit, and 2. the clean sound you're going to get from this guitar is just not very polished. with all of that said, the guitar does have some features that can really shine (especially for its price), but the key is making sure it fits you style. This is not a guitar made for its sound, and it won't really qualify to be put through something like a Marshall. I played this through a marshall, and no matter what i did, the tones were incompatible and it was a nightmare trying to get a pinch harmonic or hear the notes when i was tapping. your best bet is to try a line 6 and crank up the gain and maybe even a wah-wah pedal, doing this solved most of my problems, along with DR brand strings, they compliment it very well. As for anyone who is not a metalhead, per say, just be warned this guitar WILL NOT suffice the playability or tonal qualities for classics like zeppilin and hendrix or any band where a les paul or fender is used. anything even slighty bluesy, like guns n roses and and the like are not going to work with this guitar. basically, this guitar was built by kirk h. for metal, and metal only, and it does it well. you can fake a blues sound by turning you lead volume knob as far down as you can while still getting sound, but its still not even close to the real deal. go for it if you want to play metal, but otherwise put a lot of thought out there before you buy. i gave it three stars but its really relative to what type of player you are, i know this review was not a rave but easily a five star if its right for you. hopefully this helped

Nice for the price

By Lucas

Comments about ESP LTD KH-202 Kirk Hammett Signature Series Electric Guitar:

I have owned this guitar for about 6 years now and she hasnt let me down. She plays and feels great, though the pickups are kinda a let down. She sounds great with distortion, but the clean sound is just so-so. I have never really had any problems with the guitar itself. If you are thinking about putting active pickups in this guitar, DONT. You will not have enough space to put the battery in because this guitar comes stock with passive pickups. If you want to change the pickups, stay on the passive side. But overall this is a great guitar for the price.

Extremely impressed

Comments about ESP LTD KH-202 Kirk Hammett Signature Series Electric Guitar:

Bought this at my local GC after playing the Ibanez RG5EX1 and this one. Both sounded and played great but this one felt perfect, so I went for it. They had one new in the box and it was set up at the store perfectly... I have not put it down since I've gotten it and am very pleased all around. The action/set up is perfect, stays in tune and the stock pickups are hot and sound great. Great deal for the price!

Great Guitar if it suits you

By Sanil

from baltimore, marylabd

Comments about ESP LTD KH-202 Kirk Hammett Signature Series Electric Guitar:

The only reason I bought this guitar was because it was like being customized for me without having to pay alot of money. The thin neck is great, the tremelo system is great, so it's good for any play with a little experience. The only thing I suggest is trying it out before buying it because many people don't like to jumbo frets. In my case, I bought the guitar because i like them, but many find it hard to play higher on the neck with them. Do NOT buy this guitar because you are a big Metallica fan. If you don't try out this guitar before you buy it, you may regret it.

Not too bad an axe

By Eric

Comments about ESP LTD KH-202 Kirk Hammett Signature Series Electric Guitar:

After not having played in a few years, I wanted to get a decent guitar, within my price range. I used to own an American Made Randy Rhoads Jackson V and a lower price BC Rich Bich. This guitar compares well with higher priced guitars. The neck and intonation were set almost perfectly, from the factory, with only a slight adjustment need, for my playing style. The one thing that I will be changing, is the bridge pickup. I will be replacing it with EMG's This guitar was a great buy!!

Beast Guitar

By Stephen "Airz" Peters

Comments about ESP LTD KH-202 Kirk Hammett Signature Series Electric Guitar:

Probably one of the best decisions was to purchase this puppy. Its been around 4 months and it still shocks me how well it has held up. Came out of the box sounding amazing and playing Metal on it just seems fitting. Though it was funny because I kicked in to some Jazz and it almost felt right that the guitar also play some Jazz. Overall a amazing guitar Pros Floyd Rose Whammy Bar 25 Frets Skull inlets(Always a Plus) Cons as with any Floyd Rose system, a pain to restring.

This guitar is worth the money

By Greg

from New York

Comments about ESP LTD KH-202 Kirk Hammett Signature Series Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar about a week ago and I am very pleased thus far. When I first got it, I thought that it would fit only my metal needs but it satisfies anything from Zeppelin to Lamb of God. The Floyd Rose is very good and stays in tune very well even during the first few days. I only had to tune it about 5 times during this week. It gets an excellent clean tone that has a very distinct tone. The distortion can go anywhere from an AC/DC feel to a Slayer feel. It is an excellent guitar in all possible ways. You could even get a jazz type tone if you needed it to. I would recommend this guitar to any player who is slightly more than intermediate and needs a flexible guitar with a distinguished tone.

IN no way disappointed

By Dabney

Comments about ESP LTD KH-202 Kirk Hammett Signature Series Electric Guitar:

I always read these reviews and think, "yeah right." But I have been playing this for five days now and....WOW! My fingers literally glide across the fret board. I was playing a strat and that feels like moving through mud compared to this. The only trouble I had was adjusting to the Floyd rose system. It's almost like a ritual just to restring this thing. But after a few youtube vids I finally figured it out and I am quite happy!

Great Guitar

By Chris Corso

from Lexington, KY

Comments about ESP LTD KH-202 Kirk Hammett Signature Series Electric Guitar:

I just bought this a couple of days ago at the GC in Atlanta while in town for a meeting and I absolutly love the guitar. I am a die hard Metallica fan and like to play a lot of tallica songs. The feel and sound are great. Tunning has not been a challenge and stays in tune very good. Changing strings looks a little intimidating but I am sure that will become easier w/ practice. The only negative is the finish shows finger prints very easily so keep a cloth handy.

Perfect, the only problem is...

By Whitey Hernandez

from Laredo, TX

Comments about ESP LTD KH-202 Kirk Hammett Signature Series Electric Guitar:

This guitar is good for anything from blues to metal to deathcore! The pickups are fine and sound clear; the neck is flat and the guitar is sooo light! When I first got it, I couldn't help but to try dive bombs and stuff; and the Floyd Rose was perfect! But after a few weeks, the locking nut of the E and A strings was stripped off. I did some research on it and I found out that Floyd Rose Special is made out of cheap materials. I ordered a new locking nut online, installed it, and it was just like new! And so far, it hasn't stripped. This guitar is awesome, but it takes time to get used to it. When I first got it, I wanted to tune to Drop D, so I READ THE MANUAL and found out that I needed to adjust it from the back. Now it's a perfectly fine Drop D machine! I would recommend this guitar only to people that aren't patient. If you're inpatient, don't get Floyd Rose!

Never thought I would doubt an ESP guitar

By Erfan "Doctor E" S.

from Kirkland, WA

Comments about ESP LTD KH-202 Kirk Hammett Signature Series Electric Guitar:

So, I bought this guitar because I thought it would be a pretty decent guitar for the price range. When I tried it in the store, the guitar seemed fine. But after I bought it and brought it home, the problems started. the first one I got came with a factory defect in which the locking nut on the neck for the low E and A strings was stripped, so they sent me a new one. It has been a few days since I've had the new but I just got around to setting it up tonight and I'm having just about the same problems... the floyd rose won't hold tune and when I check the locks, the screw on the low E and A string is loose, I tighten it but it wont fully lock into place,it will just turn in the socket like it's stripped but its tighter than it would be if it was stripped but it is still loose and i don't want to tighten it any more for fear of stripping it, I'm going to take the guitar back to Guitar Center tomorrow to see if it's just my bad luck of getting two defective guitars or it's me, and I don't see how this can be me considering my other guitars are fine and the other two screws on the lock are fine and they lock perfectly and hold tune through every kind of dive and raise I can put the guitar through. If you want my advice, I would say don't just try the guitar, try all the parts (i.e. screws, tremolo, etc.) to make sure everything on it is prefect before making the purchase. ESP, I'm very disappointed in you because you can make the best guitars in the world in my opinion, and this is how my first ESP and ESP KH-202 experience has turned out to be.

Great Guitar...Great For Metal

By AndrewN

Comments about ESP LTD KH-202 Kirk Hammett Signature Series Electric Guitar:

when i purchased this guitar i played this guitar for hours on my little 15Line 6 spider 3 guitar amp without even thinking to change to my marshall kerry king half stack. I was sooo impressed at its low action and its incredibly thin neck. this guitar was built for speed and rythm guitar and does great in the clean channel. the pick ups are modeled after the EMGHZ's which are the passive form of the popular active EMG's.. the pickups in here are as good if not better that the EMG HZ's... all around a great guitar for the price!!!!

Awesome Guitar

By Tre

from Oklahoma City, OK

Comments about ESP LTD KH-202 Kirk Hammett Signature Series Electric Guitar:

Man i have been trying to find a new guitar now for 3 months. enable to decide (and people constantly telling me its a personal feel) i decide to go and play them at the local guitar center. i go in there and play all the guitars i was looking at online and reading reviews. i liked them but it felt like i was just playing my Ibanez from home and i wanted a new feeling. then this guitar catches my eye. i had to try it out it looked smooth and was very tempting. so i try it (im a huge metallica fan) and i play seek & destroy on it. i was so surprised how much of that metallica sound it had i tried more of their songs. this guitar is defiantly worth it. and at such a low price for such a great instrument. i would gladly buy 4 of them

nice guitar

By Miketallica

from Colorado Springs

Comments about ESP LTD KH-202 Kirk Hammett Signature Series Electric Guitar:

I gave my rig to my son a year ago and recently decided to get back into playing. I was interested in the Ibanex RG5EX1 and this one. I wanted to have at least one single coil pickup but the Ibanez just didn't seem right for me. This KH202 looks great (black with skull and bones inlays) and the neck and action is perfect for me. The only thing I am trying to get used to is the bridge seems to crowd out my picking hand and I need to adjust the way I do my palm-muting (I am experimenting with "rolling" my palm from the bridge to the strings as Dave Mustaine claims to do). The neck pickup seems a little muffled and I have avoided using it. This thing is great with the Line 6 Spider IV 75w amp and FBV Express Mk 2 footboard.

Great guitar

Comments about ESP LTD KH-202 Kirk Hammett Signature Series Electric Guitar:

well i bought this guitar a year ago, ill be sincere, it has gave me a lot of headaches, everything was right until i decided to change mi strings, this is my first Floyd rose guitar so i had alot of problems, xP i put 9-42 string gauge, but i didn't know mi truss rod were adjusted for 10-46, (so.. i recomend this guitar for playing with dropped tunnings, playing on standard E, will make the strings have alot of tension and its hard to bend the strings), other problem i had after restringing to 10-46 is en the locking nut, and this is my bad, y hesitated tighten the screws, the screw spot got twisted for the E and A strings,( i recommend to dont hesitate tighten the locking nut screws.. just the necessary)another problem for me is the extra jumbo frets, if you was using jumbo frets it will take you a lil' time to get used to this ones.. other that that.. this guitar sounds AWESOME an so it looks awesome, i was nothing satisfied about this guitar first, but now everithing's ok, i gave it 4 stars because the pain remains xD ... Buy this guitar, just take good care of it... (sorry my english is not good)
