Comments about ESP LTD James Hetfield Snakebyte Electric Guitar:

Went into the store looking for a Gibson explorer. Saw this hanging on the wall and was aware of the new product from the NAMM show videos. Had to sit down and jam on it. Wow. Satin neck, Sits great in your lap, and the neck radius is perfect. Not a thin U like Ibanez but not fat like a SG. On clean, it's bright and characteristic. I wouldn't say jingly, but not thin like a lot of actives tend to sound clean. Overdrive/dirty sounded phenomenal. Literally right when I switched to the dirty channel I had to bust out the opening master or puppets riff and it sounded on point. Just like the album. Had good chug, great sustain, killer looks. Even if your not a metallica fan, this is a shredder with characteristic. I was expecting a bland active pick up sound and was bite by the Snake! Killer guitar.

Comments about ESP LTD James Hetfield Snakebyte Electric Guitar:

This guitar isn't stocked in stores and I have never ordered a guitar online before, sight unseen. I was hesitant to order it but convinced by the stellar reviews and Guitarcenter's return policy. I am glad I ordered, this guitar has a killer sound. I've never played active pickups before and I'm sold. Even without a tone knob, this thing has bite. The action came perfect from the factory and the intonation was spot on. This is a solid metal guitar and well worth the money.

Comments about ESP LTD James Hetfield Snakebyte Electric Guitar:

I've owned roughly 15 guitars and played a lot of others, but I've never played a guitar that feels and sounds this good. I always wanted an explorer and now I know they are the perfect fit for me. I haven't tried the Het Set pickups until now but I'm sold, really digging them compared to the 81/85 and 81/60 combos in my other guitars. The setup out of the box was pretty close to perfect. I had to adjust the intonation on the D & G strings ever so slightly and raise the bridge pickup a tiny bit at the lower strings, but the action was spot on where I like it. I've always been impressed with ESP/LTD's offerings but this exceeded my expectations and then some. Nicely done Hetfield and the good people at ESP/LTD!

Comments about ESP LTD James Hetfield Snakebyte Electric Guitar:

I went out on a limb ordering this guitar as I had never played one of James' guitars before, but I'm glad I took that chance. I've had this guitar for about two years now and it's still one of the easiest playing electrics out there, short of high end gibsons of course. Paired with a modeling amp, you can easily reproduce the sounds featured on any of the Metallica albums, from Kill 'Em All, to Hardwired. The James Hetfield custom set of pickups are also far surperior to the EMG 81/60 set featured previously on James' guitars.
(I should also note that I purchased this guitar when gloss black was available, not satin, though the other functionalities of the guitar remain the same).
