Overview

The inspiration for the unique shape and design of the LTD F-155DX Bass from ESP would appear to be a mix of Route 66 Interstate signs and weaponry from an old Dungeons & Dragons manual. Forgoing the traditional, rounded apple bottom bass, the LTD F-series basses feature off-centered curves, beveled edges, and points in places you won't see on any other guitar, let alone a bass. The double cutaway design makes the bass guitar's upper and lower horns appear to be a skeletal finger and thumb respectively.

The LTD F-155DX has 5 strings, with a thin "U" contoured maple neck and 35" scale. The body is made of basswood with a flamed maple top that contrasts subtly with the rosewood fingerboard. As your fingers explore the 24 XJ frets your rhythms and melodies are trapped by dual ESP SB-5 pickups and can be reshaped with the ESP ABQ-3 3 band EQ. The ESP DB-5 string-thru-body bridge, tuners, and control knobs are all black nickel.

The ESP is a very nice bass. The only issue I had is when I first started playing I had to turn my amp way up just to hear it so I thought that the electronics might be bad. But luckily the horrible cheapness of the strings that came on it cleared that right up. The G string broke in literally less than 20 minutes. So I slapped some Ernies on and now it sounds like a completely different bass, worlds better than when it showed up. So bottom line if you buy this bass throw in some of whatever strings you use and restring it through the body before you even plug it in.

Had for over a year now,The sound as far as pickups and electronics go was fine, the control layout is excellent, the neck in thinner than my Ibanez, and it plays alright.-However- the workmanship was poor. the scarf joint on the neck was not sanded down all the way, so i could feel where the neck and headstock joined together, whoever filed the frets missed a bunch of times with the file and took a chunk out of the corner of the fretboard and the finish was thick and gloppy. it's good for the price, but for a little extra, i previously bought a Bc Rich warlock 5 (now discontinued) that is vastly better quality, and its tone kicks this bass in the teeth. i will use the LTD as my back up, but that's about it...

Comments about ESP LTD F-155DX 5-String Bass Guitar:

For the money this is a great bass and the transparent purple grabs people's attention right away. That is why I got it even though I have many other basses and some are boutique. It plays well and the finish is of good quality.

The down side is that the string spacing is much more narrow than the other F Bass 5 strings. I know some might think that will make it easier to play - but most people once accustomed to a 5 string like the width. Still - a personal choice. This is also a bolt on rather than neck through like the higher quality F basses. I bought the bass used and the previous owner must have left it out in a guitar stand as there is a fade mark across the back of the neck where the stand support must have held the neck. So, keep this out of sunlight when not in use.

The voicing of the tone controls is like the other LTD basses. It seems almost like voiced for a guitar as the "low" almost feels to be in low mid, the mid is pretty high, and the high is just "Zitsy". I have the ESII Doris Yeh bass and the voicing is quite different and more like a bass.

Overall though - a fun bass.

Comments about ESP LTD F-155DX 5-String Bass Guitar:

ESP makes an awesome bass, and this 5 banger has the looks to match the incredible sound and feel. It arrived with only a slight adjustment needed to the action to get it playing low and sweet. Two turns of the included hex wrench on the neck truss rod, and it was perfect.

You can dial in a wide variety of tones between the two pickups, and the electronics are noise free with no buzz even under florescent lights. Great balance too, not a neck diver.

Finish is flawless and every bit as good as the picture.

I measured string spacing to be about 16.5mm, which is how they keep the neck manageably small with five strings.

Comments about ESP LTD F-155DX 5-String Bass Guitar:

This is my first 5-strings bass and all I can say is i'm amazed:

For the price you're getting a huge quality instrument, out of the box: the neck is straight and the strings are very close to the frets board, no need for a truss rod adjustment (in my case), the sound is very clean but i recommend to change the strings due low quality, really lightweight and very comfortable while playing.

The two ESP SB-5 pickups are just great, they really cath all melodies without noise, active 3-band EQ is really well made and delivers all kind of good sounds for your music style.

I would recommend it to anyone who's looking for a low-priced and good quality bass.

Comments about ESP LTD F-155DX 5-String Bass Guitar:

i got this bass about a month ago.. and I've been playing it roughly 8 hours a day since.. i love everything about it.. it sounds fantastic.. it feels fantastic.. it looks phenomenal. its got a good weight.. and it has alot of sound control. the only problems I've had with it, is that i can't stop cleaning it because i care too much about it.. and i seem to have troubles finding super long scale strings that i like. but it is still a fantastic bass all around and definitely worth every penny.

Comments about ESP LTD F-155DX 5-String Bass Guitar:

This bass really is just great. Don't be deceived by the picture, this bass has a much darker color than it shows, with a lack of much lick it simply looks black. It's just gorgeous and brutal, and plays very well, I do recommend changing the strings it comes with ( obviously) as they are pretty low quality.

        By Andrew Zempke

Comments about ESP LTD F-155DX 5-String Bass Guitar:

I ordered this bass online after playing the 4-string version at a local music store and after waiting a couple of weeks (it was back ordered) there are no words to describe how perfect this bass is! It's construction is flawless, it's sound is unique and it plays and looks like a beast! Even though it may seem a little pricy, I cannot stress enough how much it is worth every penny!!

        Stellar bass!

        By Christian Cruz

        from Puerto Rico

Comments about ESP LTD F-155DX 5-String Bass Guitar:

Overall this bass is definetly well worth it. Pick-up's, bridge, body, neck. All great. And if you're gonna customize it in the future (gonna add a expander and try some Different EMG's) then the bass will go divine. Well worth it, not gonna regret it. Buy it.
Bass features two ESP SB-5 pick-ups. Both brodge and neck. Now, althought they're stock pick-up's, they deliver great tone and sound, Definitely no need to change them(Unless you have other pick-up's in mind of course) Also features 3-band equalizer which offers any tone desired. Stock pick-up's don't completely suck. But new ones are recommended. Great body, light-weight, and pretty awesome in 99.99% of features.
Quality great. Nothign much I can say here(plus, I'm no mood to write a lot) but trust me, and other owners of this bass, it is something eccelent!
For the price you're paying you're getting triple quality(compared to my suckish ibanez) No regrets when purchasing this bass. Completely worth the money and then some!

        Wonderful Bass!!!!(ESP LTD F-155DX 5-String Bass)

        By Trey Piper

        from Barton, MD

Comments about ESP LTD F-155DX 5-String Bass Guitar:

I've wanted this bass ever since I saw it several months ago, and today when the UPS guy brought it I was overjoyed. Out of the box, first impression was that it looked even better than online. After putting on the straplocks I had ordered, it was time to play. The active pickups make such a difference in tone! My passive bass (Rogue LX205B Series 2) sounds so dull compared to this beauty! The fingerboard feels natural to play and the weight doesn't kill your shoulders! Paired with a Coffin Case, and I couldn't think of a better match for it. I highly recommend to anyone who's looking for more depth and style at a price this wonderful.

        Killer 5 - String!

        By Mike B.-seICh

        from Minot, N.D.

Comments about ESP LTD F-155DX 5-String Bass Guitar:

I've had this bass for about 6 months now and just gotta say it's fantastic! It played nice right out of the box, the neck was straight and the strings are right close to the fret board. I just had to adjust the truss rod slightly. It's cool, cuz it comes with the necessary allen wrenches, nice touch. the bass doesn't way a ton either, nice thin neck. cool purple color. good price on it too. my only 2 issues: the strings aren't very good. they get dull right away. and it tends to have a little neck dive. other than that it plays awesome and sounds awesome as well!
