just got this guitar with the see thru black sunburst finish august 21 2012 tuesday.this guitar looks awesome.the finish is just good on this guitar.im not gonna say outstanding, and the guitars playablity seems like your holding a 1500 - 2000 dollar guitar in your hands.the EMG does make it sound a little bit thin though, like it lack a bit of the mid range.the mahogany body on this one gives you an even tone, while the maple top gives it a little bit of brightness which is hardly noticable.my only complain about this guitar is the yellowish binding and very scratchy binding on the neck.like someone filed the binding badly, which is for me,could have been better based on its price compared to PRS guitars of the same price range.but if your looking for a solid playing performance all around guitar.this one is worth a try,and maybe youll decide to make it the ONE.i just found out this one is made from china too.just a little heads up.

Don't waste your money! It has cheap dull sounding emg pups and the overall quality is no where near what it should be for this price range of guitars. I own a 08' model Rogue HH guitar from M.F. and it's a much nicer playing, sounding, quality guitar for 80% less money. For the price you pay go with the Gibson Les Paul Studio. I own a '09 model and it makes the LTD EC-401 look and sound like a toy guitar.

Comments about ESP LTD EC-401FM Electric Guitar:

I've had this guitar for about 3 years now. It has a great solid feel overall with a smooth neck. It stays in tune well and was easy to set up. Overall, it feels like a guitar twice the price. It's definitely a great option for someone looking for a Les Paul style guitar. My main concerns is that the EMG pickups sound thin and tinny. I thought it was just the nature of EMGs until I got another EMG equipped guitar and there was a huge difference. Also, sometimes the pickup selecter switch does not work. If I flip the switch, it won't change between pickups unless I flip it back and forth a few more times. It works normally most of the time though. The guitar is definitely a solid build, and feels like the quality is better than many other guitars in the same price range.

I returned the Viper

By NICK WHISENANT

from Spring Hill Ks

Comments about ESP LTD EC-401FM Electric Guitar:

Ok I bought a Viper on a Tuesday took it to band practice and umm No. The way the guitar set on me was all wrong I could have either moved the mounting points of the strap or returned it to the store and because I have not paid my guitar store loan off yet I decided to return it for this one. I really like everything about this guitar except for the fact that I liked the esp labeled pick ups better I don't know why but it seamed like they had a warmer bottom end and they didn't feed back with the volume turned up all the way. Overall I love it. And I am a very picky guitar player.

Comments about ESP LTD EC-401FM Electric Guitar:

Picked this guitar up used from MF for a nice price. Loved the finish of the black aqua sunburst. An eye pleasing guitar for sure. EMG pickups top it off for a really great hard rock metal tone. A bit too much bite for doing great singing cleans. Rolling back on the volume helps clean it up too get it close to a "nice" clean, but not quite excellent.

Guitar felt nice in the hands, smooth, great action n such.

Had a bit of fret buzz out of the box and intonation was way off, but a trip to a luther for a proper set up cured all issues making it as close to perfect as a guitar can get for playing loud and fast.

Pick it up used(discounted), get it set up properly and you will love this guitar for a long time.

This Guitar is Great. Just Got a new one last week. I think I'll use it on my next gig. I usually play a PRS Custom 24 and when i got this and tried it on, I love the feel of this guitar, to shred, the thick sound, the tone. I can really compare it on my PRS. I can't say any negative comments on this guitar. Try it, I can promise you wont regret it. GREAT GUITAR!!!

Comments about ESP LTD EC-401FM Electric Guitar:

I consider myself an intermediate player. Better than average but no rock star status. Since I didn't have thousands to spend, this guitar for the price was unbeatable. This LTD is a great guitar, and for me it was either this or an epiphone and I'm extremely happy with my decision. Great quality and sound. I haven't had an outrageously expensive guitar in my possession so i can't give direct comparisons to guitars of that tier. However, I'm very pleased with this guitar and it will cause me to stick to buying ESP

Comments about ESP LTD EC-401FM Electric Guitar:

The ESP LTD EC-401 with EMGs is a rock guitar. The active pickups are super hot, so not so good for Jazz. If you are looking for super-clean, keep looking; but if you want a solid rock guitar, look no further.

This arrived factory set up perfectly for standard tuning (though detuned a half step for shipping). I just plugged it in and played. Very low action, ESP LTDs cannot be beat for the price.

I am an ESP convert. I have owned several Gibsons over the years, and this feels just as good—for 1/3 to 1/4 the price. It has a short scale like a Les Paul, but it is not as heavy, so you don't have to endure shoulder pain for long gigs.

The only downside—if you can call it that (unless you are looking for a clean tone)—is that I would have preferred that the volume knobs (one for each pickup) be placed in the opposite position—top for neck position and bottom for bridge position to match the toggle (instead of matching the pickup placement). Hardly a big deal, and I am not going to rewire. I'll get used to it.
