Loved it!

By Michael Thompson

from Kingman, IN

Comments about ESP LTD EC-256FM Electric Guitar:

I went to guitar center to exchange my pedalboard and while i was waiting to get things sorted out, i went and picked this guy up. I've had my eyes on the eclipse-401 for a while, so I was curious to how it's little brother would be. This was one of my favorite necks i've played on, thick enough to not feel like a toy, but still felt like i could go as fast or wherever i wanted. It was just one of those where once you touch it, it just fits. I was able to get some amazing cleans, especially with the coil tap. I was really impressed with how well it handled distortion and was able to comfortably handle a few slayer and killswitch riffs. Overall i loved how this guitar handled and had to double check the price, it is a beautiful instrument and incredibly versatile; probably the best bang for the buck i've found so far.

Comments about ESP LTD EC-256FM Electric Guitar:

From the box, the finish is awesome. Flamed maple top looks amazing. Definitely has the "Les Paul" feel as opposed to it's lighter EC brothers and sisters. With better electronics, pickups, and a fresh setup, this is gonna be competing with my primary guitar. Definitely worth it.

Why a 4?

By Brian

from Indianapolis, Indiana

About Me Experienced

Comments about ESP LTD EC-256FM Electric Guitar:

I gave it a four because it is exactly what I expected. And that is: An inexpensive, well build road warrior, that needs better pickups (EMG 61/80 would be my choice), and won't cause me to lose sleep if someone steals it. I don't want it stolen, I'm just saying, it's a really nice looking, well built, good playing, road banger, that would easily be 'big gig worthy' with upgraded pickups. That's exactly what I expected it would be, and that's exactly what it is. Therefore, a 4. Compared to it's EC-1000 brother, it's a 2.

Comments about ESP LTD EC-256FM Electric Guitar:

The see-through black cheery flame top just called out to me. It's got the feel of a Les Paul with an ergonomically scalped back. The split coil humbuckers give it many tonal capabilities, though you can't mix and match. The push-pull master tone has you in either both pick-ups in single mode, or both pick-ups in humbucking mode. Doesn't matter, sounds great at a good price. The neck is a little buzzy, but a professional set up should do the trick. Just a great guitar to have!

Pretty amazing Les Paul for the price

Comments about ESP LTD EC-256FM Electric Guitar:

First, I'm not a pro or guitar aficionado but this baby really rocks. I might put some higher quality pickups on it at some point but the stock pickups are just fine. I got this guitar so I could do a Tom Morello project after taking nearly 15 years off from playing. For impromptu jam sessions and impressing my guests at parties I couldn't ask for more. It's obviously not the quality of a top shelf Gibson but it is a great electric for the price.

put an alnico 8 in the bridge. Best guitar you can get for the money. Fit and finish are good. has a flame top. stays in tune and with a good setup it is a really really nice guitar to play and sounds really good if you change out the pu's to alnico 8's.

Comments about ESP LTD EC-256FM Electric Guitar:

I absolutely LOVE the Black Cherry finish - this is one good looking guitar. It lost one star for how heavy it is; I was surprised it is heavier than my Epi Les Paul - I ordered it without playing 1st based on other reviews and how freaking good looking it is. I was hoping it would be lighter - something of a hybrid between a shredder and a Les Paul. That being said, it's not that big of a deal, unless it was my only guitar for 3 sets a night, then it would get tiring. I'm playing it through a Vox VT120, and it sounds amazing. The extra weight provides some nice tone and sustain. An interesting design feature - there's some extra width on the back of the headstock which helps provide an ergonomically correct placement of the thumb for strumming open chords; that was a nice surprise. I wish the volume control was by the tail piece instead of the bridge humbucker; when strumming, my hand sometimes hits it, changing the volume. It's better suited for "playing from the wrist" rather than "strumming from the elbow." Overall, this is a great mid-level guitar at a fantastic price point. I'll be using it for jamming/writing at home and for bar gigs where I won't be too upset if some drunk's beer spills on it. For recording, I'll probably use one of my higher-end guitars.

I've owned my share of high end guitars including Gibson, Fender Custom Shop, Jackson, etc. and the 256 has quality beyond its low price. Great neck, nice big frets and great tone from the mahogany and maple combo. Able to pull off a variety of different tones/musical styles. Throw in some nice pickups and this inexpensive guitar can hold its own against guitars 3 times it's price.
