Plan on spending 3 times as much for a better guitar

Comments about ESP LTD EC-256 Electric Guitar:

Bottom line is this; If you're not a Made in USA fanboy, there's very, very little to fault this guitar with. In my 20 plus years playing, If I've learned anything it's that the words 'Made in USA' don't guarantee anything. In other words, though the EC-256 is no Les Paul Standard, it easily rivals a couple LP Studios I've owned over the years, as well as a 60s Tribute SG I recently had and I love Gibson so hey, go figure! Out of the box, the LTD was set up surprisingly well. Nut was professionally carved, not cheaply 'plek'd' like 'other' guitars. Action was nice and low, a little too low for my taste actually so I just relieved the neck a bit & lowered the bridge a tad and voila. Plays beautifully. Still amazingly low action, no buzz, good sustain. Frets are nicely dressed and consistent. Nice rosewood fret board. The neck on mine is fairly beefy, which I happen to like. On an older used model they had in the store I did notice the neck on it was significantly smaller so I don't know if it's luck of the draw or intentional on newer models but it's worth noting. Tuners do their job just fine as long as you know how to properly string a guitar. the finish is more than you could reasonably ask for at this price point. Unplugged, it's not all that resonant, but neither are a lot of guitars with a maple top. Plugged in, it's very versatile thanks to the coil split. The LH-150 pickups are on the brighter side, though not a bad thing. They have harmonically rich mids and nice, full bodied bass, especially on the neck position. Splitting coils on the bridge pickup yields some very usable Tele-like tones, minus the ice pick factor. Doing so on the neck gives some truly awesome, single coil-like gritty blues tones. The coil split doesn't turn the LTD into a Fender but it gets you pretty close and it really makes this guitar that much more appealing to me. LTD wasn't even on my radar when I went shopping. I was leaning toward another MIM Tele or perhaps a PRS SE. I've owned a couple LTDs in the past, which I liked, but I guess I just forgot about them until I picked up the EC-256. I was immediately impressed at the quality, comfort, and versatility and I haven't regretted taking it home one bit since. If you're like I was once and you're still hung up on the 'USA only' mantra, I'm here to tell you after years of buying, selling, and trading American, Asian, and Mexican guitars; unless you're dropping well over a grand, you aren't going to find a significantly better guitar than this LTD here.

A Gibson man now has changed to LTD

By Tyler

Comments about ESP LTD EC-256 Electric Guitar:

I'm a Gibson guy, but I saw this and just had to have it. I ordered it online, came in about 4 days. Right away before plugging it in, it felt "right". I can't believe the quality for the price. You'd pay $1000 easy for a Gibson like this. LTD makes a hell of a guitar. Great neck, coil split is great, pickups are good, stays in tune, killer finish job. GET THIS GUITAR!

Comments about ESP LTD EC-256 Electric Guitar:

ok here we have this ec-256 LP style guitar. I have owned many LP style guitars in my 29 years of playing guitar. This thing is awesome so I got it home and a few tweeks here and there and its great the sound is smooth and fat the feel is very playable. I would have to get down to some real nit-picky stuff to say that something is "wrong" with this guitar for it's price it's just awesome. Someone that can do a good setup on this guitar and your ready to go it has coil tap in the tone pot very cool. So if your looking for your first guitar or you need a ready to rock 2nd 3rd or 104th backup guitar this one is a nice budget friendly pick

Great Intermediate Guitar

By Jonathan

from Kansas City, Kansas

Comments about ESP LTD EC-256 Electric Guitar:

I've had this guitar for a few months and I must say, I've been pleasantly surprised. I'm constantly finding new usable sounds. Great feel overall. The body is way more comfortable to me than a Les Paul. I don't take this guitar as a copy, but more of an improvement.

Nice axe!!

By Mark Micciulla

Comments about ESP LTD EC-256 Electric Guitar:

Just picked this up for 350.00 and and so far it is one of my better gear purchases. Compared with other guitars in this price range and some higher it more than holds its own. My main guitar is a Gibson SG standard. Is this one better? I wouldn't say that, but it sure can compete with it for playing time. If you are on the fence on this one I would go for it. I was thinking of waiting and saving up for a higher priced version of this same guitar and I am glad I didn't wait! This one sounds just as good. This guitar looks great and feels solid in your hands. Not too heavy and not too light. The pickups are not bad at all, don't see any reason to change them out just yet. Love the push / pull feature . You aren't going to get a stratty sound, but I really like the way it cleans up the sound a bit for cleaner/mellower passages. I play mostly classic and heavier rock, and this guitar is suited perfectly for this. I'm so glad they made one of these models without the active pickups. (not a big fan). This guitar has a classic vintage look and tone to it. The guitar stays in tune very well and the neck is a dream to play on. I am still trying to find something wrong with it and figure out how it can sell for such a low price. Just glad I got one before they are all gone! Better get yourself one soon!

The best bang for the buck in the EC line

By Yani

from San Mateo, CA

Comments about ESP LTD EC-256 Electric Guitar:

I've been playing my dc-256 for a couple of months now and I find it very solid. The craftsmanship is perfect which for a guitar in the lower end of the line is rare. You're paying $100 more than the cheapest in the EC line and you're getting $300 in quality. If you're looking at EC-50 or EC-100, DO NOT be tempted by the lower price. These models are still good but stepping up one step with the EC-256 buys you a set neck, more solid mahogany body, quilted top, bound fretboard with cool inlays, bound body, coil tap, etc. And of course all this is 1 step up in crafting quality than ec-100 or ex-50. The last feel like plastic toys compared to EC-256 which has the looks and feel of a professional instrument.

Pretty good...

By Jonathan

from Southington CT

Comments about ESP LTD EC-256 Electric Guitar:

Just bought this guitar. First thing I noticed is that it looks great. Although, the body doesn't have as much contrast in color between the edges and center as it does in the picture. Still looks great though. Very solid guitar. It is also very thin, light and easy to play. HOWEVER, mine came with and enormous amount of fret buzz which can be fixed but is annoying to do so. Also, the stock pickups are only OK. Low, highly distorted notes are muddy and fast hard rock/metal riffs lack clarity. If you replace the PUPs it would be an amazing guitar. Overall though, good guitar for the money.

Awsome guitar for the price, especially the neck!

By Tiberius

from Glendale, NY

Comments about ESP LTD EC-256 Electric Guitar:

I love this guitar almost as much as my new Gibson Les Paul Studio Pro. The Les Paul is definitely my main guitar but I needed a backup guitar. I purchased mine from Guitar Center for only $249.99 brand new, they had it on special that day for some reason,(It was my Lucky Day), normally it costs about $400.00. I was pleasantly surprised with the overall sound and looks beautiful as well. Great sustain and sound clarity, I especially love the fast slim neck, body shape, and the light weight. Very easy and comfortable to play. Comes with nice stock pups for the price, it sounds like a much more expensive guitar. I'm extremely picky when it comes to purchasing guitars, so if I love it so much, I think you will too. This guitar is definitely a keeper for me.

More Bang For Your Buck

By Daniel

from Leechburg, Pa

Comments about ESP LTD EC-256 Electric Guitar:

The ESP LTD EC-256 is a great instrument, I just purchased mine for 249.99 and let me tell you don't be fooled into thinking just because it has such a low sale price that it's no good, The action is smooth, it sounds amazing, it's very light weight but it holds a good sustain, when you flip the switch you can really hear the difference in the tones, the nut is a little higher than the nut on a Epiphone Les Paul which gives you better sound but it's not high enough that it's interferes with playing up on the first fret area on the neck, all the frets line up even and I used a credit card to check the height of the frets and they are all set in even, you can get a good solid crunch out of this guitar modern or classic....and a beautiful clean sound the push pull coil taping works great and distortion as well. The three piece neck is very solid and comfortable in my hand, it has a nice flat fretboard which allows me to reach strings easier, if you buy this for Rocksmith it works very well but it sounds especially good through a real amp. I don't know what else to say except that you need to try this guitar out and get one while the sale lasts, in a week this guitar will be about 500.00 bucks again and at 249.99 your getting every bit your money's worth, I love this guitar!

Its just that good

By Bobby

from Franklin, TN

Comments about ESP LTD EC-256 Electric Guitar:

First off, i just want to say that i passed up getting a Schecter Tempest goldtop to get this guitar. Its just that good. Ill start out with the looks- they are absolutely stunning, perfect, flawless; whatever word that can be used to say this is beautiful, then that's what it is. The neck is fast and sleek, and very smooth. It has no neck dive while standing up. Its not thick like a Les Paul, but its not thin like an Ibanez. Its really all its own. I love how the set neck looks and plays, too. The humbuckers sound fantastic clean or with a mild overdrive through any Fender or Vox I've ever played it through, or with insane amounts of distortion(i.e. A7X, Four Year Strong, ADTR, etc.) when playing through my Peavey 6505+. My favorite part about the sound is the coil tapping ability. It wont make it sound like a Strat, or even like a Tele, but you can absolutely tell that it has its own unique sound, and it does it so well. Its so good for clean jazz licks, or even SRV type solos. The placing of the pickup selector is going to take a little bit to get used to, as i have only had guitars with it towards the bottom, by or, in the middle of the knobs. It seems like it will stand the test of time, my Ec-10 lasted me 4 1/2 years before i traded it in for this work of art. I got this wonderful guitar on special for the price of a used one, so i got to save a few bucks and get the guitar of my dreams, or one of them at least. Hope this helps.
