Bottom line is this; If you're not a Made in USA fanboy, there's very, very little to fault this guitar with. In my 20 plus years playing, If I've learned anything it's that the words 'Made in USA' don't guarantee anything. In other words, though the EC-256 is no Les Paul Standard, it easily rivals a couple LP Studios I've owned over the years, as well as a 60s Tribute SG I recently had and I love Gibson so hey, go figure! Out of the box, the LTD was set up surprisingly well. Nut was professionally carved, not cheaply 'plek'd' like 'other' guitars. Action was nice and low, a little too low for my taste actually so I just relieved the neck a bit & lowered the bridge a tad and voila. Plays beautifully. Still amazingly low action, no buzz, good sustain. Frets are nicely dressed and consistent. Nice rosewood fret board. The neck on mine is fairly beefy, which I happen to like. On an older used model they had in the store I did notice the neck on it was significantly smaller so I don't know if it's luck of the draw or intentional on newer models but it's worth noting. Tuners do their job just fine as long as you know how to properly string a guitar. the finish is more than you could reasonably ask for at this price point. Unplugged, it's not all that resonant, but neither are a lot of guitars with a maple top. Plugged in, it's very versatile thanks to the coil split. The LH-150 pickups are on the brighter side, though not a bad thing. They have harmonically rich mids and nice, full bodied bass, especially on the neck position. Splitting coils on the bridge pickup yields some very usable Tele-like tones, minus the ice pick factor. Doing so on the neck gives some truly awesome, single coil-like gritty blues tones. The coil split doesn't turn the LTD into a Fender but it gets you pretty close and it really makes this guitar that much more appealing to me. LTD wasn't even on my radar when I went shopping. I was leaning toward another MIM Tele or perhaps a PRS SE. I've owned a couple LTDs in the past, which I liked, but I guess I just forgot about them until I picked up the EC-256. I was immediately impressed at the quality, comfort, and versatility and I haven't regretted taking it home one bit since. If you're like I was once and you're still hung up on the 'USA only' mantra, I'm here to tell you after years of buying, selling, and trading American, Asian, and Mexican guitars; unless you're dropping well over a grand, you aren't going to find a significantly better guitar than this LTD here.

When I received the guitar in the mail it was set up badly. So after fixing fret buzz and leveling the neck, i plugged it in. The pickups sounded awful clean, they were way too trebly. Distorted they were extremely muddy. (they were played through my VK112, great amp) That's not all though, Upon closer inspection I noticed the frets were cracked and dinged everywhere. I sent the guitar back because i do not accept such poor quality instruments. Save up for an EC-401VF or EC-1000 instead.

Comments about ESP LTD EC-256 Electric Guitar:

Ok, so I purchased this model a while back, not in this cherry finish, but in the lemon drop finish WHICH IS GORGEOUS. I don't recommend anyone doing this but I bought this guitar sight un-seen. I saw it online and I fell in love with the lemon drop finish and I told myself I have to have it. So I did. The thing is I play metal, pretty much exclusively. I thought, 'ESP/Ltd, make metal guitars and I've played other so this should be in that ball park'. Well, I was off a little. This isn't the best guitar for metal. That doesn't make it a bad guitar, not every guitar that isn't made for metal is bad, but if you are looking for a shredder, this probably isn't it. I plan to keep it however, it is very well built, looks great, plays good, will probably upgrade the electronics later and the pickups to something hotter. Overall good guitar, just wanted to post this so people like me that thought ESP only makes metal guitars will look at these guitars and make an informed decision.

Comments about ESP LTD EC-256 Electric Guitar:

So nice to have a hardtail that can perfectly intonated... sounds fantastic in humbucker and coil split for that Hendrix or country twang!

I may eventually upgrade the tuners to a Gotoh Delta Locking 21:1 for super fine tuning and maybe the pickups to Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates, but at this price I can afford to make those modifications.

Comments about ESP LTD EC-256 Electric Guitar:

I have been playing guitar for over 30 years! heavy metal/hard rock! I picked this up for my kid and was really surprised at how well this guitar played and felt in my hands. Craftsmanship is really nice. I got this one used and it had EMG Pickups in it already but i did compare it to a new one with the original pickups. Still sounded very nice only chose the used one because it had upgraded pickups already and was still less than a new one. I would recommend this guitar to anyone starting out to an intermediate guitar player. This axe is ready to play in the band!!

Comments about ESP LTD EC-256 Electric Guitar:

I went through a couple guitars that I wasn't quite happy with around the price range. I compared it to a epiphone les Paul I owned and it just all around feels and sounds better. The coil tap is a nice feature especially with clean tones. Overall it's a pretty versatile guitar you can get great metal and rock tones but also sounds great for blues and clean tones. It plays great right out of the box, it really didn't even need a set up. The fret work is great the neck feels thin and smooth and the little details like the head stock matching the flag inlays make it look gorgeous. I've owned Jackson epiphone and Ibanez but I'm sticking with esp and prs guitars from now on. I wouldn't think twice about this purchase I've read all the reviews and they don't lie it's a great guitar.

This is my first guitar and I was looking between this and the Epiphone LP. I felt like for the price point and features this was the way to go since I was originally looking at the LP studio. The guitar came out of the box and ready to play aside from tuning it the setup was good to go. I would definitely buy another ltd guitar in the future.
