Every note you hit on this guitar screams. The mahogany body gives it a deeper tone than alder. Excellent guitar for guitarists who love metal.

Metal Machine Monster

By Chris Delacruz

from Detroit, MI

Comments about ESP LTD Deluxe Viper 1000 Electric Guitar:

Hands down, this is my new main and favourite guitar. If you get a good amp, this guitar almost plays itself. It may be primarily a "metal" guitar, but you can cover a lot of musical bases just as well with this (ok, maybe not so much country or jazz per se, but you get the idea!). You certainly won't fine a better quality guitar for the price range that is being offered with the Viper. This is what the SG should have been...
This guitar is absolutely amazing! I've been a Gibson Les Paul and SG player for about 6 years and a few months ago, a buddy of mine turned me onto LTD guitars, particularly a Deluxe Viper he was selling (he's more of a Jackson and DBZ guy). Needless to say, I was so impressed with it's feel and sound, I bought his Deluxe Viper right then and there. I was so impressed with it that I also found a lower end Viper 401FM and bought that as a backup to my Deluxe. Combined with my Peavey 3120 and Mesa cab, this guitar is a rip-snorting metal beast! Neck played like butter and the EMGs were punchy. My only two complaints are that the top strap peg makes the guitar seem a bit off-balance or neck heavy but after playing a big Les Paul for years, I'm no stranger to playing a guitar that cumbersome at times. The other complaint is the lack of separate volume controls for each pickup (I mean, who really uses a tone control anymore, especially in metal?!). Those issues aside, this guitar is bang on for the money and anyone who picks one up can't help but jam for hours at a time at full volume. This guitar was meant to be played loud.
Awesome craftsman ship and the flame maple finish is to die for. This guitar will last you a lifetime if you take proper care of it. The neck and jumbo frets are almost worth the admission price alone.
Outstanding guitar for the money. If Gibson put something like this out, they'd charge you an arm, leg andmore for it. LTDs may be an offshoot of ESP but the value is far overshadowed by the quality of their instruments. Those guys care a lot about good quality and also how to make it affordable for everyone.

really really great guitar

Comments about ESP LTD Deluxe Viper 1000 Electric Guitar:

I just bought this last week and been playing it everyday. I tried all the guitars in the shop. I tried the Ec-1000 deluxe and other guitars in this price range. The Ec-1000 sounds ok too. But I prefer the Viper. Is there a differene between the two? For me, this guitar plays fast. I can move around the fretboard better on this one compared to my first guitar (squier telecaster). There's no buzzing sound when you release the fret- it stays silent... the xj frets are also great because on medium frets i usually press 2 strings with one finger so the xj frets make playing more comfortable for me. The emg pickups have a nice sound. In my opinion, this guitar is really good if you like playing metallica, megadeth, or even just the duke nukem song. But dont get me wrong. The guitar is versatile - I can play ac dc, beatles, rolling stones, jimi hendrix, santana with the guitar. Perhaps other guitars (e.g. fender strat) will suit non-metal songs better, or give a better tone, but the viper 1000 is ok for those type of songs too, but maybe not as much as it is good for metal, but good enough nonetheless. The guitar is a little bit heavy on the neck but its not that big of a deal unless you have neck problems ofcourse. Thats the only negative i can think of. The guitar looks really nice especially in certain lights when it looks kind of grey/black. I recommend this guitar 100% to all metal fans.

5 stars only if you have a newer model

By Scott

from sterling, VA

Comments about ESP LTD Deluxe Viper 1000 Electric Guitar:

I bought my viper in 2008 and had to move the front post for the neckstrap because it's position made the neck do a nose dive when I stood up to play! It appears from the pic above they changed that problem on the newer models. 4 stars for the older model! The EMG pickups give a strong heavy sound. I turn off the tone knob so the tone is not so bright. (think Hatebreed not Megadeth) This is my #1 guitar. I use heavier strings and play in drop D and this guitar will stay in tune through a 30 minute set. I have never needed to use the locking tuners. The guitar is light, well built, and I get a lot of compliments about it. I have the black cherry color, I'm considering buying a black one for a backup.

Comments about ESP LTD Deluxe Viper 1000 Electric Guitar:

This guitar is amazing, hands down. I was able to play one at my local GC, and it blew me away. I hooked up up to a Peavey 30 watt and even through the presets it was amazing. It has an awesome metal sound courtesy of the EMGs, and a decent clean tone as well. It can handle everything from As Blood Runs Black to Paramore. Buy it!

The Viper Shreds

By OnKaOuStUilus

Comments about ESP LTD Deluxe Viper 1000 Electric Guitar:

I've owned this guitar for over 3 years now and it's held up very well. The Emgs are a definite positive if you are, like myself, playing heavier style music. I play the guitar mainly in drop a and b flat standard tunings and the pickups compliment the low end "chuggy" sound perfectly while still cutting through on the higher end. In the 3 years I've had the guitar the only real inconveniences I've encountered are the volume knob becoming loose and the metal part that screws onto the input of the guitar becoming loose. Other than that I have no complaints. If you do, or are planning on, playing heavier music I highly suggest this guitar, for the price It's a steal!

Quallity guitar

Comments about ESP LTD Deluxe Viper 1000 Electric Guitar:

A few things to note about this guitar... the black one is much darker than it appears in the image above, also it is a bit neck heavy when standing. the active EMG pick ups scream harmonic's but will need a battery change once a year or so. Controls really allow you a wide variety of tones. I find it a bit more difficult to tap on this guitar but that could just be me... Reeks of beauty and quality!

Comments about ESP LTD Deluxe Viper 1000 Electric Guitar:

Quality guitar, slightly neck heavy.Pickups harmonic like crazy, and when tweaking the controls you have a distinct variety of tonesGuitar is darker than it looks like in the pictureand in the right light almost looks dark purpleCant see how a SG standard could be a whole hell of a lot better, the folks at ESP Korea certainly take pride in there work.

Amazing Guitar

By Scarymike51

from Grand Blanc, MI

Comments about ESP LTD Deluxe Viper 1000 Electric Guitar:

I bought my LTD Viper 1000 from Elderly Instrument in Lansing MI. I literally played the thing once and was sold. It sounds amazing for heavy music and/or guitar solos. I have 3 different Peavey Amps/Heads that go with a guitar with EMG's like stink on a monkey. This guitar blows away my Gibson Les Paul Studio, Washburn NX6(TM), and others in terms of feel and tone. I was shocked by how many of you reviewers stated that this guitar is either heavy or awkward to play when on a strap. I have to seriously question anyone's guitar playing skills or knowledge who cited comfort or weight issues. This is seriously the most comfortable and easy to play guitar I have ever touched. The neck is sleek, fast, smooth, and plays like butter. If you think this is a "heavy" guitar weight-wise, I don't know what you would say about even a Les Paul Studio. Get in the weight room. The tone of the guitar is incredible. My viper has 2 EMG 81's (which I was not thrilled about at first, I would rather have an 85 in the neck spot). However both pickups sound outstanding, especially paired with a high gain peavey head. Just sick.My main complaint about this guitar is the location of the toggle switch. I play in a metal band that has a lot of fast transitions and it can be very difficult to reach down in the middle of a fast song to do a pickup change. However this is really not that big of an issue 95% of the time.Secondly I am honestly not a fan of the guitar's appearance. It is a little too flashy and colorful for my taste but I get a lot of compliments on it. I prefer an all black guitar with very little flash to it. But it's not about the appearance, it's all about the sound and feel, both which are amazing.

Awesome Guitar!

By Graeme

from Castro Valley, CA

Comments about ESP LTD Deluxe Viper 1000 Electric Guitar:

This is a awesome guitar! I've owned quite a few Gibson SG Specials & Standards, & this guitar is equal to or better quality then the Gibson SG Std. Everything about it is flawless! The EMG 81/85 pickups are very expensive/high quality active pickups (even though I prefer DiMarzios). The body & neck are thicker then a Gibson SG. The woods used are equal to or better then the Gibsons. The neck & fretboard & bindings/inlays are awesome & flawless! Such high quality parts also used for this price. Would be nice if they offered a hard shell case... But it is a awesome Heavy Metal guitar to play right out of the box!!
