Comments about ESP LTD D-4 Bass Guitar:

This bass has been my baby for 7 years. Beautiful sound and sustain. I use it through a classic Ampeg. Very good for rock and metal. The built in EQ has been so useful over the years. Many different tones can be created. Don't buy it, because its mine only.

    A steal at this price

    By Glenn Weatherspoon

    from Arvada, Colorado

Comments about ESP LTD D-4 Bass Guitar:

This bass features neck through body construction which results in incredible stability and sustain. The mahogany/maple laminated neck is smooth and fast. Achieving a low action is easily accomplished. The 3 band EQ is adequate, as are the stock pickups. Hardware is above average. Grover tuners are a welcome upgrade fro the usual fare and the high mass bridge is beyond excellent with the ability to top load or string through the body. I only have two complaints on this bass. First is the nut, which is plastic and it is 40 mm, not the 42 mm listed here. The neck reaches that width only by the second fret. Second is the weight. At over ten pounds, this bass becomes a chore to lug around after about 20 minutes of playing. In summary, the annoyances are far outweighed by the advantages of this extremely high value for a modest investment instrument.

    Great Bass! Very recommended.

    By Daniel Anzolini

Comments about ESP LTD D-4 Bass Guitar:

Overall, it is a great bass. I gave it four stars just because I don't have that much experience and I'm sure there are basses out there that are even better.
If you have the chance, try it out before you buy it. I didn't because I saw it on the web and got really excited, lol. But take a chance to look it over, and don't get too syched about it. Just thought it was good advice.
(Just to let you know, this is my very first bass, so I can't say I have enough experience to compare to any other basses.)
The features on this bass are quite good. EQ controls definitely have an effect on the sound, although the treble EQ doesn't make much of a difference except for creating more background sound and increasing other disturbing (in my opinion) noises.
Tuners are good, although they tend to go flat slightly quickly.
There is a bit of fret buzz, but I adjusted the truss rod and bridge to another level and no it sounds just fine.
The quality is great. Don't trust the photo! It's much nicer than it looks there. More organic, I'd say.
Although natural finishes don't all come the same, I'm sure they're all pretty nice.
The wood work came out pretty top notch. There wasn't alot of blemishes at all; no scratches, nothing.
So far it's survived pretty good. The bass has been through two flights a cheap roadrunner gig bag wrapped up in scarves. However, I may have just been lucky.
I can't say it's a bang on the buck, haha, because I've never bought another bass. But from having seen some more basses on the interent, I must say, for the looks and great EQ, as well as the rest of the solid build, I say its a nice price for such a bass.
Since you can do alot of things with a set of Fender tapewounds (that's what I'm using) and some foam by the bridge (oldies, soft rock, some soul, etc.) I think this bass can definitely suit up for a variety of styles and sounds. I even achieved some upright sound when I cranked up the bass and changed to bridge pickup.
And don't think it stops only there! With the strings it comes with (rounds) you can definitely play to metal (if that's what you like)! Check out some vids in utube and you'll see what I mean (fyi, it's not me).

Comments about ESP LTD D-4 Bass Guitar:

Well this bass just came to my door step a bit ago. It is beautifull to look at, the action was a bit high but a liitle adjustments fixed that, no biggy. The neck thru construction is so smooth and feels amazing! I plan on switching the pick ups out in the future but the ones that are in there now will do me just fine. So over all this bad boy will be my primary bass for a long long time. for all you bass players out there looking for an amazing bass for an amazing price, BUY THIS BEAST!!!!

    ESP LTD D4

    By Bob-IpO9j

Comments about ESP LTD D-4 Bass Guitar:

This is my first bass I have ever owned and I have been using it for almost 9 months playing every Sun and practicing almost daily. The only problem I have had is the input jack came loose but I re tightened it and its been good ever since. Other bass players that have heard this bass and tried it out have really liked the sound it produces and excellent playability. When I was shopping for this bass and comparing it to other bass guitars this one sounded better than others that cost more. I am very happy with it and I would definitely recommend this bass.

Despite buzzing It's a Good Bass

    By M. Middleton

    from Fredericksburg, VA

Comments about ESP LTD D-4 Bass Guitar:

First I'd like to note I returned an Ibanez 300M for the ESP LTD D-4 thinking it was a more stable bass because of the neck through body construction, I should have kept it. The Ibanez has the thump, pop & snap I was looking for but had a little buzzing in the same areas like the ESP LTD D-4, but the buzzing was easily corrected although it added very minor, hardly noticed buzzing elsewhere on the neck in places I really like to improvise on the bass, otherwise it could have easily been overlooked. The LTD D-4 had buzzing at the low E & A frets near the nut. Had to add more bow in the neck to silence the buzzing, this increased the distance of the strings to the neck. lowering the strings did a little good but the buzzing returned. My opinion is the playing action should be relaxed and laying just along the neck above the frets for excellent execution of your playing technique with no struggle. Maybe I got a model that was a little off ESP's specifications but overall it's a good bass with neck through, active electronics and all. Ultimately, I purchased an Ibanez 400QM. It's a step up from the 300M and should really satisfy the bass needs I'm looking for from a bass in this price range. I'm waiting for the arrival of the Ibanez 400QM and have not experienced it to rate it, as for the ESP LTD D-4, if I was at a store with inventory I would have tried another before I exchanged it. Anyway, the buzzing problem was the only thing I could find wrong with it.

    Dont Hesitate

    By Rock&RollOutlaw

    from michigan

Comments about ESP LTD D-4 Bass Guitar:

I would have paid more for this bass if the price had been higher. All I did was change the strings to pyramid gold flats and drop the bridge about 30 percent. This guitar is perfect. Smooth fast play and you can get any tone you want out of it. Any and all who disagree have not been around long.

    Great Bass

    By Dave

    from Boise Id

Comments about ESP LTD D-4 Bass Guitar:

Great Bass for the money. Finish is outstanding and the active eq lets you dial in a wide range of sounds. The black chrome hardware really looks great. I would recommend this bass to anyone. The only flaws I've found were 2 small spots on the neck that were sanded a little too much, just enough to be noticed when you slide up the neck, but not enough to be annoying.
