I bought this bass for myself on Fathers Day two years ago, and it is still my favorite bass. It has a very easy to play neck, nice and smooth. Plenty of access to the upper register and wide enough even for fat fingers like mine. The action may need to be adjusted a little depending on your style of playing, and it needs better strings but other than that it's ready to go right out of the box. This is a great 5-string and would be worth it at even a much higher price. I have played other basses that were three or four times the price and they just sounded tinny and lame compared to this thing! You MUST consider this bass if you are looking for a 5-string. Well worth it.

I bought it because I got a great deal on it, but otherwise I never would have. I wanted to switch from guitar to bass, and playing a nice, smooth bass feels and sounds great. This bass is far from that, it's clunky, unattractive, pickups are awkward to rest your thumb on, slap sounds awful, the neck is thick and slow, the action is bad, and to top it off, the input jack pushes my cord back out a little bit(weird I know.) Now I'm playing my guitars again, and I haven't picked the bass up in a couple months. I really regret buying it. Sorry, ESP, I love your guitars, but not your basses. I might buy a nicer, smoother bass sometime in the near future...

she's a fantastic little bass light as a feather and has powerful punchy sound and its a dirt simple passive bass and the thing is built to be played aggressively gig after gig

Comments about ESP LTD B-55 5-String Bass Guitar:

I always wanted a 5 string Bass Guitar. I settled on this one. I like Fender Basses. But to start out with I didn't want to spend a lot of money. 4 strings had always been enough for me. This isn't exactly what I'd call "basic". It looks great and feels very good and worth the money in my opinion.

Bought a month ago. Quality construction and great sound, However came out of crate with a slightly high 14th fret. Was not a quick fix, but can be adjusted with right tooling and knowlage. Shipped with two volumes and one master volume (active adjustment) No Tone control so that is a draw back. play thru a GK with 4/10 1/15. Other basses are a 1982 Ibanez RS824BB and a Fender re-issue Tele Bass. ESP is a great 5 string addition to the arsenal

Comments about ESP LTD B-55 5-String Bass Guitar:

I received this as a gift, and am very satisfied with it. It balances well, and has a fantastic neck. The active electronics provide LOTS of output and pretty flexible sounds via the controls. The only issue I have is the low b tends to slip a bit, and it's difficult for my tuner to detect it properly as well, so I often use the 5th fret E to tune the string. The rest of the strings are freaking rock solid.
Not too heavy, very comfortable to play although I haven't played it for hours at a time. It records well, although can be a bit hot.

sounds great. stock action was perfect(for me at least) nice rumble when you get the Low B going. without it being muddy. both sets of active pick ups sound great on there own. and together. amazing for shows, i have yet to find a negative for this bass.

          Love it!

          from Kentucky

Comments about ESP LTD B-55 5-String Bass Guitar:

I give the bass a 7 out of 10 overall. The only reason it's not a ten is because it's a price-point guitar.
I ran a music store for ten years and this bass is, bar none, the best five string bass for the money I've ever encountered! The action was good to go and intonation right on (which is rare in any bass, but especially economy models). Although I've ordered some EMG's for the bass, the pickups that are on it sound suprisingly good. I just need the EMG's for their quietness as I'm using the bass for recording. The mix control between the P and J pickups really helps tune it that just right sound.
A+ all the way thus far given the price point.
This bass is a fantastic value. Can't say enough.

          Affordable

Comments about ESP LTD B-55 5-String Bass Guitar:

Ive been playing guitar for a bit and i wanted to play bass. I decided that sense i already had experience with a stringed instrument i would go with a five string because i am into metal and i like having options. At first there was wicked fret buzz on the b and e string, after waiting for the strings to settle in and raising the action it went away. I can even drop it 4 half steps now. It has an OK sound. And an OK sound at this price point is great. I have it plugged into a fender rumble 75. Still, i wish i had more to work with when it came to tone. This is a beginner bass in 5 string form. Basically what im saying is you will deff want to buy a better bass in the future when start figure out how it works, Ive been looking at some 4 string models because i rarely use that B string. But for now this is good enough for me and it gets the job done. I would recommend this to a beginner and not an advanced 4 string player looking to go to a 5 string. Ive had this thing since august and its now December, so ive gotten time to know it.

          My First Bass

          By Nathan Michalik

          from Indiana

Comments about ESP LTD B-55 5-String Bass Guitar:

I'm extremely happy with my purchase. I can't say much about tone as it's my first bass, but I know to me it sounds good. I would personally recommend it to anyone starting out who wants to jump straight to a 5 string.I'm playing it in conjunction with an Ashtown perfect 8 practice amp.
The LTD B-55 5 string is extremely versitile. Can't really ask for much more on a bass at this point. I love the range of a 5 string 24 fret bass! Pickups aren't too bad for stock.
There are a few spots where finish seems rushed. For example, the paint work near the headstock gets a tiny bit sloppy. I realize I'm nit picking, but a flaw is a flaw even if it doesn't effect playability. It's nothing huge or even anything that would effect my purchase, just something to look out for.Main reason for docking points is because it's extremely neck heavy. I'm really new to playing bass, but I'm pretty sure it's not normal.
Comparing this to other basses with similar quality and price, it's a great value. It's hard to say if it's better than the others, but it's easily comparable.
