Overview

If you love the sharp contrast of natural looking woods, you'll love the design of the ESP LTD B-4E bass guitar. As with the other LTD B series basses from ESP, the B-4E has beveled edges which allow you to see the contrast of light and dark between the mahogany body and ebony top. Adding to this contrast of woods is the even lighter 5-piece neck-thru-body maple/mahogany neck and ebony fingerboard.

But looks aren't everything. If you're going to lay out your hard earned cash, you want to get some good bang for your buck. Ensuring you get the most of the tones these blends of woods provide are ESP SB-4 pickups (bridge & neck) with an ESP ABQ-3 3-band active EQ. Use the knobs to adjust for more brightness on pop tunes or gain more kick on the low-end when you're getting down and dirty for a more rocking tune.

The neck is 34" scale, with an extra thin "U" contour, a 42mm standard nut, 24 XJ frets. ESP tuners, an ESP BB-604 bridge with string-thru-body, and black nickel hardware.

Comments about ESP LTD B-4E Bass Guitar:

Beautiful guitar ... heavy but not too heavy. Perfect hands free balance when hanging from the strap. Fret board is great for solid notes or glissandos. It has a volume knob, a pickup balance knob and three tone knobs ... bass, mid and treble boost/cut.

Comments about ESP LTD B-4E Bass Guitar:

What can I say about this bass other than WOW!! This thing was perfect right out of the box. No adjustments necessary! Great action and Tone. The only thing I had to do was put a set of ROTO's on it. I can get the exact tone I want with this. I have played everything from jazz to metal on this thing and have been able to dial in a good solid tone for each. ESP products are #1 in my book and would buy another today if something happened to this one!

      Awesome bass!!

Comments about ESP LTD B-4E Bass Guitar:

Just picked up this bass last night from the store. It is a very beautiful guitar. The pics here make it look a red color but it is in fact a dark wood color on top. I love the neck on it, natural finish and not laminated or polished. Its very slim and thin. You can play really fast on it. I havent had the chance to play it through an amp much since I just got it last night but I do like what I hear so far. I have a real nice pedal board though so i wasnt terribly concerned with sound. But it was pretty nice just plugged straight into a practice amp. Slap sounds great on it. Lows are pretty tight too. All in all I am very happy with my purchase.

      Incredible value at this price

      By Glenn Weatherspoon

Comments about ESP LTD B-4E Bass Guitar:

First off, you just have to admire the craftsmanship that went into this bass. Stunning appearance. The three band EQ is solid, the pickups are adequate. It was setup and arrived almost ready to play. I personally find the neck and nut width (40 mm, NOT 42 mm as advertised here) a bit too thin/narrow for my tastes, but the bass plays superbly. At 8.5 lbs., it is also about 2 lbs. lighter than it's cousin in the ESP Ltd stable, the D-4. You won't find this type of construction and quality for less than $900 elsewhere, and even then a a four-string won't be easy to find. I'm looking at YOU Ibanez. How about a BTB in a four-string? In summary, this bass is a steal at this price point. It is one I won't be selling or trading anytime in the near future.

      Great and versatile bass

Comments about ESP LTD B-4E Bass Guitar:

I actually owned this bass years ago and had it for quite some time. I used it through a Peavey 115 then and played in a Progressive Metal band at the time. My first worry was that it had just company name pickups, but this proved to be a very minor concern later. It holds low tunings and remains just as responsive when you are in standard tuning. The playability is what drew me to this bass first and foremost. Your hands will just glide along the neck with speed and ease. I can't say how it plays out of the box because I bought it from a store that sets up all their instruments when they get them. The look of the bass just makes it that much better too. It kind reminded me of a rainbow bass with all the different wood colors. My only complaint at the time was that it wasn't the greatest sounding bass for a slap and pop style, seemed to be more fit for either pick or finger styled, but this could also be because I was younger and didn't know a thing about how to shape your tone. All in all, I would suggest this bass to just about anyone.

      almost perfect

Comments about ESP LTD B-4E Bass Guitar:

i got mine like few days ago thru online purchase. i think the guitar is awesome. the reason for 4 stars is that the first thing i noticed is the small chipped wood at base of the 3rd fret that looks like it was hit by something. im not sure if it would cause some problem soundwise in the long run but i hope the esp quality control is right about letting it pass.

      So far so good

      By Chip Sciarra

Comments about ESP LTD B-4E Bass Guitar:

Not being an accomplished basest, I'm going out on a limb writing this. This bass is quite stunning to look at and when I opened the box in the store several people clerks and customers came for a closer look. Everyone seemed impressed, as I was too. I took it to band practice where the bass player in my band tried it out. He is also giving me lessons and he's very experienced. He was very impressed also. Now the range of sounds you can get out of this bass is quite varied; from a high pitched sharp punchy, funky jazz sound, and a warm full bodied traveling bass sound, to a really fat dirty floor shaking, rock sound. My rig is an Ampeg SVT, w/a 4/10 cabinet and a 2/15 cabinet, so that counts for the thunder, but the ESP sounds better and louder than his bass through it, for the same settings. That could be because of the active circuits, but I really don't know. It might also have something to do with the neck-through design. I'm sure there are better basses out there, though for the money you'd be hard pressed to find one new. It looks awesome and sounds great and is easy to play right out of the box. Did I forget to mention that the action is low and light and very easy to play. It also stays in tune! It's hard to beat for the price. In my opinion, and that's what this review is, It seems to be a solid investment. Hope this helps
