  • Very sexy affordable guitar

As reviewed by Matthew Ackerman on 7/12/2013

I am giving this axe 4 stars simply on the value of the money spent on this. What you get is basically a customized LP inspired type body that is very thin and light with humbuckers that are really quite decent. The neck is average and very comfortable to play. The finish of this guitar is really quite impressive. It looks really nice with no flaws I have found. The fretboard is a nice color and looks good. Here are some downsides I have had. The pots are cheap. They crackle and snap like crazy and the volume and treble control is not linear at all. Likely that could be fixed with some replacements. One of the inlaid dots on the 5th fret came off on mine. Not a super big deal but it looks kind of unfinished now. The guitar required a lot of work to get it set up right. The truss rod was not tensioned at all, the strings were really low and the incantation was slightly off. After spending about an hour with it I got it sounding pretty good. I wouldn't play this thing out of the box without at least checking the setup on it. The tuners feel kind of cheap and the guitar really liked to go out of tune on me. After tightening everything up and putting some strings on with proper locking 'knots' on the ends it helped quite a bit with the dropping out of tune. Overall I think it's still money well spent and aside from the flaws above it still sounds really good to me. It is very warm sounding and has some crunch to it. When you kick in the distortion it sounds really good. I have it hooked into a peavy vypr and it sounds great. The best thing about a guitar in this price range is it's almost disposable. This is my grab it and go guitar. If this is your budget for a new guitar I would strongly take a look at this.

  • Ok beginner's guitar

As reviewed by Chandler on 7/17/2011

I've had this guitar for about 6 months now and I'm changing the pickups as soon as I possibly can. I play hard rock and metal so I'm going with the Seymour Duncan sh-8 invaders because these pickups that it comes with suck. The guitar won't stay in tune! I'm talking after a couple days you have to tune it again! The main thing I like about it is that it looks good. I would recommend it to anyone who is just starting to learn guitar but not to someone that knows what they're doing.

  • Amazing Guitar

As reviewed by Zack Larmer on 8/2/2012

I recently started teaching myself guitar, about a year ago, on a crappy indonesian made stratocaster, and for my 8th grade graduation I had up to $200 to spend on a new guitar, my parents took me to a local guitar shop, sam ash, where after sampling a few ibanez's, a dean vendetta and an epiphone I tried the two tone burst esp ec-10 and immediately fell in love. I've been playing this guitar for a few months now, but I'll play it several hours every day. It's got a quick neck, it's light, the sound of it is great, whether clean, distorted, over driven, etc. and just the looks of this guitar are amazing. The only problem I have with it is that it's got a tune-o-matic bridge, so I can't stick a floyd rose or any other tremolo on it, it's limited to vibratos by companies like bigsby. Other than that, you're paying for a guitar that should be twice it's price, this is an amazing guitar.
