The body of the ESP LTD D-6 Bass Guitar is shaped out of merbau, a hardwood native to Southeast Asia giving it a dark hue similar to mahogany. In fact, if it wasn't for the lighter maple of the 5-piece maple/mahogany neck-thru design, you'd have a hard time discerning that this was a neck-thru design from outside appearances as the dark woods are a very close match. The neck itself is a thin "U" shape with a double cutaway design making it easier for players of all sizes to access the frets with ease. This standard scale (34") 6-string bass sports a 54mm standard nut, 24 XJ frets, a rosewood fingerboard, Grover tuners, an ESP DB-6 string-thru-body bridge, and black nickel hardware. The electronics include dual ESP SB-6 (bridge & neck) pickups with an ESP ABQ-3 3-band active EQ which lets you boost or cut lows, mids, and highs before the signal ever hits your amp.

I have been playing for over 20 years. I personally own and play a Ken Smith BSR5MW and a modified Fender Jazz. I wanted a neck-thru 6th string but did not want to play over $1000.00. I read all the reviews I could find and heard the 4&5 string versions of this bass on youtube and was impressed. I bought it here at GC, replaced the p/u's with bartolini's and the pre-amp with an Aguilar OBP-3 and now it sounds as good as most $4000.00 MTD's. Clear clean piano like sounds for under $1000.00 with the mentioned upgrades. Ryan, the Instrument Tech at GC in Bakersfield is Phenominal, he Meticulously and professionally installed my electronics, give him a call.
I got this bass last year, to play dream theater and other Progressive music. it held up for quite some time, great string spacing, pick up placement, and the neck was the best part, measuring at less than an in in depth.
Problem being. the ESP pickups and EQ sounded like pure mud and got no definition on notes played on lower strings. and to much definition on high strings. the bass was sturdy and withstood a fight with a drummer. smacking it against a wall.
the bass was way to heavy coming in at 23.5 pounds and being made out of merbau why? that's what my floors made out of! please save yourself and get a padded strap if your going to get this bass. if you don't care about the things listed. it will be your best friend, (pickups can be changed too)
Since having the ESP LTD D-6 6-String Bass Guitar,I have been experiencing problems with the G and C string buzzing on the neck of the bass guitar. The notes on each threts continue to buzz.I had taken the bass back to Guitar Center for adjustment and the problem continues to be ongoing.I was told the problem will cost me to fix the problem.I will be taken the bass back to Guitar Center to be fixed again.
