A bass for Mr. Natural.

The B-4E Bass Guitar has beveled edges that reveal the contrast between the mahogany body and ebony top for a gorgeous, natural look all its own. Adding to this contrast of woods is the 5-piece neck-thru-body maple/mahogany neck and ebony fingerboard.

Ensuring you get the most from the tones these wood combinations provide are ESP SB-4 pickups (bridge and neck) with an ESP ABQ-3 3-band active EQ for extended tone shaping. Dial in more brightness on pop tunes or get more kick on the low-end when you're getting down and dirty on heavier tunes.

The neck is 34" scale with an extra-thin contour, and has a 42mm standard nut, and 24 XJ frets. Details include ESP tuners and an ESP BB-604 string-thru-body bridge in black nickel.
Case sold separately.

  • So far so good

As reviewed by Chip Sciarra on 5/3/2012

Not being an accomplished basest, I'm going out on a limb writing this. This bass is quite stunning to look at and when I opened the box in the store several people clerks and customers came for a closer look. Everyone seemed impressed, as I was too. I took it to band practice where the bass player in my band tried it out. He is also giving me lessons and he's very experienced. He was very impressed also. Now the range of sounds you can get out of this bass is quite varied; from a high pitched sharp punchy, funky jazz sound, and a warm full bodied traveling bass sound, to a really fat dirty floor shaking, rock sound. My rig is an Ampeg SVT, w/a 4/10 cabinet and a 2/15 cabinet, so that counts for the thunder, but the ESP sounds better and louder than his bass through it, for the same settings. That could be because of the active circuits, but I really don't know. It might also have something to do with the neck-through design. I'm sure there are better basses out there, though for the money you'd be hard pressed to find one new. It looks awesome and sounds great and is easy to play right out of the box. Did I forget to mention that the action is low and light and very easy to play. It also stays in tune! It's hard to beat for the price. In my opinion, and that's what this review is, It seems to be a solid investment. Hope this helps

  • Great and versatile bass

As reviewed by BEN ADAMS on 3/3/2013

I actually owned this bass years ago and had it for quite some time. I used it through a Peavey 115 then and played in a Progressive Metal band at the time. My first worry was that it had just company name pickups, but this proved to be a very minor concern later. It holds low tunings and remains just as responsive when you are in standard tuning. The playability is what drew me to this bass first and foremost. Your hands will just glide along the neck with speed and ease. I can't say how it plays out of the box because I bought it from a store that sets up all their instruments when they get them. The look of the bass just makes it that much better too. It kind reminded me of a rainbow bass with all the different wood colors. My only complaint at the time was that it wasn't the greatest sounding bass for a slap and pop style, seemed to be more fit for either pick or finger styled, but this could also be because I was younger and didn't know a thing about how to shape your tone. All in all, I would suggest this bass to just about anyone.

  • Awesome bass!!

As reviewed by charles on 2/24/2015

Just picked up this bass last night from the store. It is a very beautiful guitar. The pics here make it look a red color but it is in fact a dark wood color on top. I love the neck on it, natural finish and not laminated or polished. Its very slim and thin. You can play really fast on it. I havent had the chance to play it through an amp much since I just got it last night but I do like what I hear so far. I have a real nice pedal board though so i wasnt terribly concerned with sound. But it was pretty nice just plugged straight into a practice amp. Slap sounds great on it. Lows are pretty tight too. All in all I am very happy with my purchase.
