So I stopped by the Clackamas Guitar Center the other evening and spotted this sucker up on the highest tier of the wall all the way in the back. I could tell it was feeling lonely seeing as it was next to all the other Gibson & Fender blueswanker specials. So I got the guy to get it down for me to check it out and I was really surprised. Its a new guitar but it was a demo and lucky for me it wasn't all banged up but the unwound strings were seriously black and dead. I plugged it into a Peavey Vypyr the same as I got at home and wow this guitar is fricking cool. Fast forward, I came back the next day and picked it up with a nice case. Took it home, cut all the strings off with some dykes, polished it a variety of Dunlop products and put the 7 string Slinky 2621 set on it with the .074 from the Slinky 2625 set and bam this thing is ready to go. I gotta say, having previously owned an Ibanez RG2228 and currently an Ibanez RGA8 this thing sounds and plays better than both. The guitar itself resonates like you wouldn't believe. It literally sounds like an acoustic guitar and the sustain when its plugged in is incredible. The fretboard is simply amazing and the intonation is perfect. The Hipshot bridge is very comfortable for palm muting. I thought there would be a problem with the 25.5 inch scale but really it doesn't sound much different than my RGA8. You just can't really play full on bar chords on the F# string as usual. Thats the case with any 8 string though. I might try to get a custom .080 string on it at some point but for now the .074 sounds just fine. Other than a little less tuning stability than the RGA8 and RG2228 thats about the only negative thing I can think of. Nevermind the fact that this thing is sexy as hell. Black as my metal soul for sure. This guitar already has inspired me and I stayed up late Saturday night and composed a new song. That said, I'm going back next week to trade in my RGA8 and order another one of these so we can do a couple 8 string songs in my current metal project. Rock on people!
