Comments about EMG-VG20 Vince Gill Prewired Pickguard Set:

This was as easy to install as the other reviewers said (and I've never done anything like this before). The videos from EMG I found were for installing other pickup sets (David Gilmour, etc.) but they were useful. As others have said, I had to drill a hole to allow the non-soldered connections to fit smoothly but that was all. The sound is great-my Strat built from parts sounds as good as my vintage one now, although different. The EMGS are very quiet and less trebly, but with more get up and go. The SPC control is very cool and useful. I love having master tone also. Adjusting the pickup height is necessary but easy. I highly recommend this product. Wish I had known about it sooner.

Comments about EMG-VG20 Vince Gill Prewired Pickguard Set:

The only negative about this pickup set is the bridge pickup is not as hot as the others. Had to move it as close to the strings as possible. Otherwise it works great and is a definite upgrade to the lace sensors that were previously on this guitar. I especially like the mid-boost feature. Played through my Dr. Z is a great combo.

Comments about EMG-VG20 Vince Gill Prewired Pickguard Set:

After purchcasing the EMG DG-20 (David Gilmour) for my 1998 MIM Strat, I was so impressed that I thought I would upgrade my 1997 Fernanes Strat with the VG-20. This decision was in part to having two separate systems and I assumed the VG-20 would have some jazzier aspects to it. The SPC control works great and true to EMG, all notes ring clear. Installation from start to finish (removing the old pickguard and components and installing the VG-20) takes all of 30 minutes. I recommend taking your time, using a cloth to protect your guitar's finish and have everything laid out ahead of time. I recommend that you watch EMG's President Rob Turner's instructional video as well. It makes it go a lot quicker. There are other instructional videos on YouTube as well. Depending on what model Strat you use you may have to bore out the hole from the input jack but I heard this only applies to the Squire models. Overall this is an excellent product. My biggest fear is that I would lose that Strat "watery" sound in the 4th position but it's there and then some! Also, crank up the SPC knob and go into full blown humbucker mode! Enjoy!

              Installation observation

Comments about EMG-VG20 Vince Gill Prewired Pickguard Set:

First of all, this is a great product. The pickguard itself is beautiful. The pickups sound great and quality is top notch. I want to offer some installation insights. I installed this set in my friend's Squier Strat. All of the holes lined up perfectly, so no problem there. I did have to remove the neck to get the pickgaurd to go under the "lip" of the rosewood fretboard. I also had to drill out the hole in the output jack. The new one included was just a hair to big to fit into it. I then had to drill a hole to allow the solderless connectors to pass through from the output cavity to the pickgaurd cavity. Connecting everything after this was a breeze, very well designed unit. The foam that came in the packaging for the battery was to thick and would not allow the pickguard to sit flush. Using an exacto knife and slimming it down to about half of its original thickness corrected this problem. Screwed the pg down,re-attached the neck and strung her back up and I was shocked at the difference that these this set had. Simply beautiful tone. I guess the purpose of this review is to let anyone with a Squier know that installation is no problem and the results are amazing!

              CLEANED UP MY OLD STRAT

Comments about EMG-VG20 Vince Gill Prewired Pickguard Set:

I have a '75 hardtail Strat that's a great player, but noisy as hell, especially when you get near neon, dimmers, or computer screens. Heard a lot of good stuff about the VG20, so I took a chance.Carefully removed the old pickguard(after all it is a 34 year old strat)and put it in a safe place. Easy to install! No soldering, no worries about grounding, pups are grounded internally. Called EMG with a couple of questions. Very helpful. Pickguard screw holes lined up perfectly. Strung it back up, and I was very impressed. Minimal noise, great clean strat sounds, but I was also impressed with the Presence control. Crankin that up gives you a pretty good bucker sound. Looking forward to using it on some hard rock and metal stuff, wont have to change guitars. All in all two thumbs up!!

Comments about EMG-VG20 Vince Gill Prewired Pickguard Set:

I have a 1989 Strat that was built in Corona California with the Lace Sensors. (Blackie) I've used the EMG-DG20 in the same guitar and sounds great but I've been chasing the Robbie Blunt sound. The EMG-VG20 is a great bright sound that I've been looking for. The one thing is The SPC control board is square and a very tight fit and scrapes against the body of my '89 I used a Dremel and shaved about 3/16 for an easier fit. Simple and short I love these pickups. The sound is great. Clean or Distortion. Also gives a fresh look to an 89 Blackie
