Overview

The EMG-P is the bass pickup of choice since it was developed. The EMG-P pickup, like all the original EMG's, went through a redesign in 1979. The original "Embossed EMG Logo" model made everybody sit up and listen. The pre-'79 models are still used by players like Lee Sklar and Alphonso Johnson. More than a few have gravitated to the EMG-P for stage performance and studio recording. The EMG-P uses short, squat coils that have very little resistance and plenty of inductance. Because the coils are not in series like the passive types, there's about twice as much low end as a passive pickup. Ceramic magnets are used to add clarity. Countless pros use it because they find it has a natural presence, powerful lows, punchy midrange, and superior definition.

The EMG-P Precision bass pickup features hum-free noiseless operation with an even-timbred response. The P design was adapted for Ned Steinberger and became the EMG-SS (Steinberger Sound) used exclusively on the Steinberger Headless Bass. In order to make the composite bass sound more natural, EMG added steel poles for warmth and midrange. In addition to the standard EMG-P Pickup, the EMG-P5 and EMG-P6 are available for use in five and six string basses, respectively.

Package includes: EMG's exclusive Quik-Connect cable, prewired solid shaft volume/tone control set, output jack, battery clip set, adjustment screws.

Amazing

By Wesley Vaughn

from Morristown, TN

Comments about EMG-P Active P-Bass Pickup:

These pickups are amazing. I just got the pickups themselves without the equalizer and I still love the sounds I can get from them. They were really easy to put in also. There are two wires you have to solder together and you are done. The only reason I gave them four stars is because of the pots that come with it. They were too long and too big in diameter. This was a fairly easy fix though. All you have to do is either buy the certain knob for it or grind the pot down and reem the inside of the knob out so that it will fit over them. I would definately recommend these pickups to anyone I know that is looking for big full sound. If you wanna know anything else feel free to email me.

Good Bang for Buck

By Rod Rebman

from Ohio

Comments about EMG-P Active P-Bass Pickup:

Excellent set of active pickups. Perfect for dropping into a cheap bass, made my $200 Squier sound fantastic. These are not going to make your starter bass sound like an American-made Fender, but this pickup upgrade is definitely the easiest way to add tone and versatility to your sound. If your used to passive pickups, you will be shocked by the tone you can pull out with the lightest touch of the fingers. Installation is not as easy as you may think. Locating a suitable area to add a battery to a previously passive system takes some thought. I would not recommend attempting self-installation unless you have experience with tools, soldering, etc. If you are a music geek and a music geek only, pay someone $50 and save your bass.

It is amazing

By BWAAS

Comments about EMG-P Active P-Bass Pickup:

I put these on my Fender Squire. They sound great. No hum, no buzz, just Bass. Three thing: There is some soldering involved, though not a lot. You really have to force everything into the small compartment. Finally, the Jack does not reach the normal hole in the P-bass's Pickgaurd, so you have to drill a new hole in the pickguard. Not for someone who isn't willing to work or hire someone to work for them. Regardless, I got it to work, and it sounds amazing!!!

Worth every penny!

By Jordan

from Shelbyville,IN

Comments about EMG-P Active P-Bass Pickup:

I put these pickups in my American Fender P bass. They capture the vintage sound and have amazing tone range. The only downside is that I had to carve out room under the pickguard to make the battery fit. The plug and play style that EMG uses now is very easy, and the guide is very easy to understand too.
