Featuring two guitar pickups in one, the EMG 89X is loaded with Alnico V magnets and has separate preamps, each providing custom outputs for both dual-coil and single-coil modes. In dual-coil mode the sound is rich, warm, and powerful, but still very clear and is similar to EMG's 85 model. In single-coil mode (which is accessed through the included push-pull pot), the EMG 89X pickup's sound is traditional Strat single-coil tone: bright, airy, chimey, and similar to EMG's SA model. In either mode, the clean sound is gorgeously pristine and brings a lot of presence. Used equally in bridge and neck positions, whether you are playing hard rock or smooth jazz, you can get it all with this beautifully balanced and versatile EMG pickup.
The EMG 89X and other guitar pickups from the X-Series provide increased headroom, giving the voicing an organic and open tone while still maintaining the clarity and response that EMGs are renowned for. The EMG 89X pickups are best described as bridging the gap between passive and active tone.
The EMG 89X humbucker pickup package includes: EMG's exclusive Solderless Install System, a split shaft volume/tone control set, an output jack, a battery clip set, plus screws and springs.

I decided to go with the 89x series because of the dynamics these pickups offer. I was amazed at the clarity and articulation of the notes when using high gain settings. In the Neck I have and 89-XR which is basically this pickup, just flipped around in the housing. And it sounds great! Humbucking mode is nice and warm with a nice balance of Highs and Lows, single mode gives it a bluesier tone that is great for leads. My 89-X is in the bridge and sounds awesome in humbucking mode. I have yet to really explore single coil mode in the bridge with distortion sounds but I seem to prefer the humbucking mode for bridge anyway. (I may just swap this out for an 85 x series) The solderless system took out 1/2 the work for me! For MY guitar I did have to do some soldering to get the connections to the jack and the selector switch to work properly, but all the other connections went smoothly. I like the push-pull pots on these pickups but I wish there was a way to connect 2 89's to one pot. That's my only gripe. You can only connect 1 pickup to 1 Push-pull pot. That's just the way they designed their system for these pickups. Overall I'm pretty satisfied though. These pickups tightened up the tone on this guitar and made the notes stand out a lot more. Definitely a good purchase.
I bought these with my new shecter hellraiser solo 6, the sound is great..... best ive ever had.... and it sounds even better with my guitar... i reccomend it too anyone who plays metal music
