  • Amazing, but Not for beginners!

As reviewed by Garrett Chapman on 7/13/2009

The PA-2 Preamp Booster Switch does exactly what it claims; overdrives your signal. There is a presence of more harmonic detail using this. Distortion will be crunchier, palm muting more ferocious, and artificial and natural harmonics will ring loud and clear. There are some notable things to point out though. For people wondering, the blue cube in the picture is the trim-pot. The knob is underneath. This thing will add clean boost only up to 10dbV, anything past that and it will clip the signal. If you wire two 9v batteries up, however, it will double the headroom, enabling almost a full 20dbV clean boost. Now if wiring this up to passive pickups, expect a little less of a boost. It only overdrives what is there. Example; If the PA-2 will multiply your signal times 5, and the output of an EMG-81 is 8, your signal will be 40. With an EMG H4, which has a relative output of 4, you get 20. Just a example but see what I'm talking about? Also this isn't for beginners for the following reason. It amplifies your signal. The whole thing. If your playing is rough and sloppy, your gonna sound TERRIBLE. Also to get an idea of how much white noise this thing adds when maxed and turned on, smile and breath out. A Boss NS-2 is crucial to enjoy the PA-2 as much as intended.

  • Awesome Preamp!

As reviewed by Stan Sparro on 11/10/2008

This thing is great! I just put it in my Ibanez RG 370DX and this thing really rocks! It will overdrive any amp. I use only tube amps and this works great! I will be putting one in each on my guitars...

  • METAL!

As reviewed by Jacob on 1/22/2011

I own a Marshall Lead 100 Mosfet head, and with this booster my tone sounds bigger and better. I've been a die hard Metallica fan since forever. With my amp and with this boost switch I get a LOUD Master of Puppets tone. The amp I own is a solid state and it's more of an AC/DC style amp, with the switch on it sounds like it haves EL34 power tubes.. which kick ass. I've always wanted that James Hetfield tone and now I have one! If you want a Metallica or Slayer sound get this switch! Trust me, with the right amp you can get metal sound. And that's another cool thing, it dosn't sound like a digital distortion amp. Amazing product I'm now getting one on all my guitars!
