EMG JH James Hetfield Humbucker Set (H73241)
Availability:

James wanted something not only "new" sounding, but also totally new looking.

The JH James Hetfield Humbucker Set is a totally new dimension for EMG, the design being driven solely with the input of James Hetfield. After playing the 81/60 EMG combo for many years now James wanted something not only "new" sounding, he wanted a set that also looked totally new.

The neck pickup uses individual ceramic poles and bobbins with an enlarged core that gives it a more percussive attack, higher output and a fuller low-end response making it clean & fat and fast attacking.

The bridge pickup uses the same larger/taller core coil but has steel pole pieces, again for a tighter more percussive attack with less mutual inductance for a cleaner low-end,. Based of the EMG 81 but brought to a whole new level.

Both pickups feature an exclusive Black Nickel plated finish and come complete with EMG's revolutionary solderless installation wiring components.

EMG JH James Hetfield Humbucker Set Features:

  • New sounding and looking
    Individual poles and bobbins
    Enlarged core
    More percussive attack
    Higher output
    Fuller low-end response
    Black Nickel plated finish
    Solderless installation

  • New sound with a familiar voice

As reviewed by tindian on 6/23/2011

If you loved the EMG 81/60 set up you are going to enjoy these babies. These things sound similar but with a different edge.Punchy lows with a clear high tone playing it clean these things sound like a passive pickup give it some crunch and these things kick butt. You can get real dirty with these and play them crystal clear probably one of the most versatile sets of pickups I've had the priviledge of installing.I put these in the cheapest guitar I could buy HH squier black bullet strat and this guitar now sounds like a way more expensive USA Fender hh Strat if you can find one.If you got the money by a set and try them out on something cheap and get rich full sound. The EMG Het set is what you want get them.

  • These pickups are unreal!

As reviewed by Chris on 6/27/2011

I've been playing EMG's for ever in my opinion they are the only pickups for rock n roll. I've had pretty much all of them including the cheap ones. But I've prefered the the 81 60 combo. I love metallica so I had to get the new pick up. I got them installed, and the second I played some riffs I was like these are worth 500 or more. Not only do they look cool, and no one has these (hardly) the sound is so razor sharp I've never heard anything like this even from EMG.

  • Great pickups!

As reviewed by Justin Hernandez on 7/9/2012

First off I gotta say that the solderless system is great. The actual process of installing the pickups will only take you about 15-20 minutes. The instructions provided are clear and detailed, the diagrams will show you exactly what to do. As for the pick ups themselves, I can't believe how great they sound. The clean tones are stunning for active pickups, I can't believe how clear and crisp they are. The Neck pick up has a nice warm, thick tone that's got that humbucker "sound." While the bridge pickup has got a nice low end to it, almost like a single coil. Both are a huge improvement from the stale clean tones that came with the EMG 60N/81B combo. When you play them dirty, they have everything you would expect from EMG pick ups. Great harmonics, incredible output and attack. Palm muting with either pick up produces a nice satisfying crunch! I find myself using the neck pick up a bit more for lead, I can get some great harmonics, and I feel that the output is a bit higher. As far as the bridge pickup, I use it more so for rhythm. All in all, the pick ups are the best I've played from EMG. Definitely beats out the 85/81, 60/81, and 81/81 combos I've played. You won't be disappointed by these pickups. I can emulate a variety of guitarists with these pick ups and a few various effects pedals. I play a lot of Metallica, Pink Floyd, and the Police. In conjunction with an overdrive pedal, and a flanger, I can nail down those tones very well with these. Cheers!
