EMG EMG-81TW Active Dual-Mode Humbucker Guitar Pickup (104841911)
Availability:

Dual preamps and three coils for equally good humbucking and single-coil sounds!

The EMG-81TW Active Dual-Mode Humbucker Pickup is armed both with the dual-coil sound you know and love, plus single-coil sound accessed through a prewired push/pull knob. Based on the EMG-81 made famous by the likes of Zakk Wylde and Kirk Hammett, The EMG-81TW gives you both sounds with the best possible quality and the lowest noise. The EMG-81TW has dual active preamps and triple-coils—it's a real humbucker and a real single coil in one guitar pickup.

The EMG-81TW humbucker includes the prewired push/pull knob, battery clip set, output jack and a Quik-Connec™ cable to easily connect the pickup to other EMG products such as the Presence Control, EXG Expander or the PA2 Preamp Booster.

  • My favorite pickup

As reviewed by wannabekirkhammett on 1/3/2009

Along with an EMG 89, which is a split coil 85, this guitar came standard in the bridge of my Schecter. It is scorching. This pickup delivers a crazy tone on distortion similar to the likes of Kirk Hammett and Zakk Wylde, just as advertised. Now, the single coil part is cool, and for some reason, despite being an actual single coil, it doesnt seem to sound like one. Its probably just me, but I cant discern the difference. Maybe its because the last time I head a true single coil was in a Squier Strat. However, real sounding or not, the single coil does not sound bad, and is just as insane as the humbucker 81. If you're looking for something different in your humbucker, check this out today. It is most certainly worth it

  • EMG 81TWs awesome in a Jackon Rhoads

As reviewed by GARRY MACDONALD on 11/5/2012

I got a Jackson Rhoads X Series with the EMG 81/85 pups. Never cared much for the 85 so switched to an 81 in the neck as well. Still found the N and N+B positions to be to muddy for my taste. I put in a set of 81TWs and wow! Still has the classic 81 sound in HB mode, but cleans & brightens up nicely with N in SC mode, N and B in SC mode, or N in SC and B in HB modes. The B in SC mode sounds almost like a P90 or Tele pup, for what that's worth. You'll need to be handy with dremelling, routering or chiseling to install these in most guitars as they are 1/8" thicker. If you aren't a wood worker have a pro do it. The wiring is time consuming, but easy since it's plug-n-play (except for selector switch and possibly jack). The 85 is also made in dual mode for those 85 fans.
