While the EMG-60 humbucker still features the close aperture coils loaded with ceramic magnets for the brightest attack of any of EMG's many humbucking models, this pickup also packs plenty of output with both clarity and cut through high end. The EMG-60 guitar pickup is incredible for rhythm guitar as metal and extreme players have discovered. James Hetfield's signature ESP models use EMG-60s because their distinctive crunch sets any rhythm player apart in the mix of a band that pumps a lot of midrange from the stage. With a distinctive tone for soloing, the 60 works perfectly as a clear, yet fat lead pickup. The resonance slope is steeper but the peak is higher than other EMG models. The EMG-60 pickup is the result of a lot of input from various people. It is probably the most versatile humbucking pickup EMG makes, but doesn't get the recognition it deserves.

  • A versitle, distinctive rhythm pickup

As reviewed by Steve on 2/12/2009

Like others have said, there are few better humbuckers for rhythm players in the blues/rock/metal world. It comes into its element when it's distorted, yet has no problem calming down for pure clean notes. Its tone covers a wide range; it's equally good a pumping out crunchy treble and chugging bass. Used in the bridge of an SG Special, with an 81 in the neck.

  • Greatest metal rythm pickups in the world.

As reviewed by Max Martin on 9/19/2009

When my freind told me he was using a emg pickup for one of his new guitars i thought great. when he told me it was a 60 i thought a why not a higher level? 3 months later he brings it over to show me. when he first played it i didnt think it sounded to great. He asked me to try it out (he's a lead and i play rythm.) so when i played it i just went nuts it was a great sound! with no pedals toped of gain it still sounded just the way you want it to. TRUST ME!!! this is very very rare. With most pickups it's ether to cleen or to dirty. now i beg him to lend me it just for the pickups. If you play any metal rythm next time you get a guitar check for these or put these in a custom.

  • Amazing!!

As reviewed by King Quiee on 1/26/2009

i had this pickup installed on my schecter tempest custom and out of everything that i could choose to play for a rhythm guitar, i'd pick my tempest w/ the 60. Everything about this pickup is great for rhythm. James Hetfield and Jim Root are both wise to use this pickup for when they aren't taking lead. If you are a rhythm guitarist who wants great quality in their music, then you gotta have this pickup.
