Overview

Use the EBow Plus rather than your pick, and create awesome synth effects. A small electrical charge sets up an energy field, vibrating the string giving you limitless sustain until you pull it away. The tiny, 9V-battery-powered Ebow Plus replaces your pick, letting you mimic strings and synths and create outlandish sounds beyond any instrument.

The EBow Plus lets you play as fast as your left hand can scurry through a lick. Fade a string in from a motionless state for a reverse-tape effect. Run the EBow across the strings for gorgeous arpeggios. Add distortion for a screaming guitar sound. Playing the EBow Plus directly over the pickup will increase your volume and give you the crisp sound of super hot pickups. Moving away from the pickup gives you the mellow sound of a hollowbody electric. The sounds you discover by experimenting with the EBow will amaze you. And like the best tools of the trade, the EBow will sound different for each musician.

This effect is very unique. The Ebow I bought had the regular and the harmonic mode, which I use a lot. The only thing that I didn't like was the fact that it could've been made of more stronger stuff instead of plastic, but I take care of it pretty well. The normal mode gives you a regular sustained sound of any note you put, where the harmonic mode takes your note and makes it sound like a harmonic note. This EBow wasn't cheap but it was worth it for me.

I won't go into the hap-hazard way the item was shipped. However, for $99.99 one would expect a nice tool to add to the arsenol. However, while the device does appear to work as advertised, the construction couldn't be any cheaper. You will feel like your going to break it simply by opening the battery door. Its VERY cheaply made and at $99.99 now knowing its all cheap plasitc, I wouldn't buy it again. If you drop it, its done for. This a $20.00 toy at best.

More than I expected

By JEFF TRIBBY

from Lakeland, Florida

I just got an E-bow this afternoon, and I'm already in love with the little squirt. I tried it out on my Ovation Viper-III, and it not only blew me away, but it generated a specific bluesy tone I've been trying for years to attain. The instructions tell you to turn down the volume on your guitar or amp. They're not kidding! I got transported to another planet for a while. When I got back, I tried it on my acoustic 12-string with its Martin Thin-Line pickup. I should have known better. The E-Bow won't work with those. Undaunted, I tried it out on my little customized Silvertone 12-string slide box guitar and got tranported to yet another crazier planet. Playing the E-Bow with a slide on the strings is a whole 'nother experience. I found I was able to do things I've never considered in the past. I now have a new way to play an original song I've been doing for years. What an upgrade I got! Just for kicks, I tried the E-Bow on my ESP 8-string bass. That was very tricky, because the bow rests on neighboring strings. The spacing between the string pairs didn't allow that, but if I held the bow juuuuust right over the double string set without touching them, I could get some sustain, but, like I said, it was very tricky and would take quite a bit of practice. The bottom line is, I was looking for 16- to 24- bar sustain. I don't know of any pedal that can do that, but I have the answer to my need for that sustain, and, oh, yeah, that certain bluesy tone. That alone is worth seven stars out of five.

SO COOL

By Tim

from Massapequa Park NY

This little thing is pretty awesome, especially if you combine it with delay and other effects. Good for sustaining notes over long periods of time and, well, making your guitar sound like a violin, which is what its intended to do. Add long delay to this and you feel like you're in a dream. Highly recommend for experimental guitarists.

Ebow (energy bow)

By Edward Bock

from Chicago, IL

I've used this for over 25 years and still love it. Bought one of the original chrome ones that came with a holster, no switch. The master of this amazing sounding device is Bill Nelson (BeBop Deluxe, solo) who continues to this day to utilize it (hear Romance of Sustain CD). I've picked up the various versions of EBow over the years, use the current double switch version which adds a higher harmonic. The only drawback is live sound, most sound techs can't deal with the overload/boost that Ebow produces. You have to somewhat "self produce" yourself from my experiences (i.e. use a volume pedal).

add some variety to your playing

By Vale

from Pensacola, FL

With practice and some good effects you can really do a lot with this, but keep in mind that it is essentially a 'one trick pony'. A good standby to change up your normal playing style and discover some good tones, but it might not necessarily become part of your daily rig. Works very well with a good delay.

Just one afternoon

By Onya

from Grand Forks ND

Within just a few hours of opening the box, my son had some great sounds going with this thing! He's a self-taught guitarist-playing 'some of everything'.. rock, country, 'alternative' and metal. He gives it "two thumbs up"!

Great piece of equipmwnt

By Skydog4393

from Fresno, California

I remember the EBow when it first made it's appearance in the mid-to-late 70's. I had tried a friend's, but never did buy one back then. What I can say is that the EBow Plus is definitely a superior model, especially with the 2-way switch for straight and harmonic mode. It really makes the guitar a whole new instrument for me and I can't wait to record with it. It'll take a bit of practice to master, but what doesn't. I think that any guitar player who wants to experiment with his or her sound should buy one of these little devices. It'll take your sound to the next level. The price is reasonable too. Now how many things can you say that about nowadays.

Great addition to your effects lineup

By Mitch

from Raleigh, NC

I highly recommend this gadget for anyone looking to expand their range of guitar effects. I found it especially useful in adding background layers to some demos I'm working on. Other reviews stated that it was somewhat difficult to learn to use. Not true if you've spent some time with a guitar and understand how the eBow works. Just read the instructions and within a couple of minutes most everyone should be able to get some good results.

A great effect!

By coolwhip

from Dallas, TX

This little tool has done amazing things for my playing, both at my church and in my rock band. Nothing else really sounds like it - it gives you these luscious swells that totally enhance the mood in many styles of music. While a little pricey, this is an amazing tool that earns its place in any guitar player's bag.
