Turns your guitar into a weird violin-sounding thing.

The Ebow Electric Bow for guitars sends a small electrical charge that sets up an energy field, vibrating the string until you pull it away. Tiny 9V-battery-powered unit replaces the pick, letting you mimic horns and synths and create outlandish sounds beyond any instrument.

Bow your bass

The Ebow is one of my favorite accessories for bass guitar. It's a little slow to get started on bass, but it sounds better than on guitar -- it's easier to control how quickly it gets started. It sounds amazing dry or with effects. A little practice is necessary to make it usable for bass, but about half an hour will do just fine. A great addition to any player's toolbox.

Great for textures and layering

I've been using the Ebow for about five or six years now. I finally bought one after trying to mimic it's sounds I would hear on albums by bands such as Bauhaus, Smashing Pumpkins, Sigur Ros, and numerous others. It's very simple to use, but does take a lot of practice and experimentation to fine tune it's amazing capabilities. I play a lot of layered and textured guitar parts and the Ebow definately helps adds to the my overall sound.

A cool trick to play on your guitar

Ebow, well it kind of explains it all. What does it do? Well it plays your guitar like a cello/violin. I 've heard it mixed up with effects and it sounds phenomenal. For me, it's the perfect tool to use for transitions in between songs. Though the price is pretty high, its like buying another effect pedal. And it is totally a unique effect.

Ebow, Ewow

By vibrating almost unnoticably the Ebow creates movement in the string over which you hold it. It takes some getting used to to get the Ebow positioned just right but the sound is so smooth when you get it! By taking the pick (or the finger) out of playing the guitar, the tone loses almost all percusive aspects which have always been an accepted part of playing guitar. I think of Pearl Jam on Single Video Theory trying to figure out who's going to play the lead in Wishlist. It's a great effect, another trick in your magic bag.

A great effect!

This little tool has done amazing things for my playing, both at my church and in my rock band. Nothing else really sounds like it - it gives you these luscious swells that totally enhance the mood in many styles of music. While a little pricey, this is an amazing tool that earns its place in any guitar player's bag.
