Best Kept Secret

By Mean Gene

from Chattanooga, TN

Good: After upgrading from the Emu-1820m pci edition of this product, I must say I've been very pleased. The E-MU XTC mic preamps sound pretty good. There are a lot better than the 1820m. I've noticed the audio outputs have been tweaked a bit too. Hardware wise if you want good sounding recordings this is a product you might want to consider. Especially if you're being brainwashed by protools users :-O Not so good: At this point in time there are no native Windows 7 drivers, the vista drivers work (both 32/64 bit) but they aren't perfect. The software bundle sucks so don't bother installing. Patchmix is still the same so no changes there. I recommend not rack mounting the 1616m cause it does get a bit warm which is not a problem under regular venting conditions. Overall the 1616m PCIe is an excellent piece of hardware for the price. Match it up with a fast computer and good software, and you've got a powerful DAW.
