An affordable USB interface for on-the-go recording.

E-MU's Tracker Pre USB 2.0 is a portable audio interface and mobile preamp that works well with both Mac and PC computers. The Tracker offers you 24-bit/192kHz recording and playback, direct monitoring, and a host of professional features in a compact, USB bus-powered package. The E-MU Tracker Pre USB gives you 2 Class-A ultra-low noise Mic/Line/Hi-Z preamplifiers that can be run independently or in stereo to record guitars, keyboards, or microphones with optimal audio performance. CurrentMorph, a patent-pending circuit design, allows the Tracker Pre to offer +48V phantom power and use premium high-power converters while using only USB bus power.

E-MU Tracker Pre USB 2.0 Features:

NEW REVIEW - solid but lacks

Very solid interface but lacks a few features that would put it over the top. The phantom power that is built in does not function that well, and is located inconveniently on the back of the interface, which is slightly annoying. The direct monitor feature is nice, but the lever set doesn’t have a stop, so getting you level isn’t an exact science. Well it is nice that you can control the headphone level, but you cant control the other output level on the back of the unit, so if you have a pair of monitors running from it they will stay at a very loud level. It also doesn’t turn a mono channel into stereo automatically, so plugging one mic in doesn’t give you stereo recording, which can get annoying. Getting the 24 bit input can be a little hard to set up, as it goes to 16 bit by default. The included software is great, and really sells the package, but some of the interface features lacks a few features that would really wow me.
