When you typically enter a recording, practice, jam session, simply pull your "Emergency Pick" from your pocket or wallet to try out an instrument at Guitar Center or just ask any employee if they have one you can use, 9 times out of 10 I notice it's usually a Dunlop Tortex guitar pick. That's because they have everything you need in a pick. Tortex picks come in a wide range of widths - between super-flexible .50mm reds for strumming 12-string chords to ultra-thick 1.14 purples that as a bassist I've been using when I've needed a pick my entire career, Dunlop has had you covered. I'm sure neither Store Employees or purchasers ever know their widths - Dunlop has them perfectly arraigned by color so that all you have to ask for is "A pack of blues". Add to that the Tortex material which increases its grip as you sweat onstage as well as accommodates your muscle memory and molds to the position you play in, There's simply no other flatpick to choose.

I hate to be a party pooper, but I found these picks to be pretty much the opposite of most reviews. I find them slippery to hold onto, and sticky on the strings when picking. The 88mm have a nice mellow tone for strumming (thus the 3 stars), but I prefer a pick that is sticky to hold onto, and slipperyp on the strings. I can pick with much more articulation and speed with a standard nylon, and hold onto it no problem. I wish the opposite was true as I do like the tone of tortex when strumming!

Comments about Dunlop Tortex Standard Guitar Picks:

I started using these picks a few years back after they were recommended to me by a fellow musician. I prefer the the 1.0mm picks over any other. They have a great grip to them. They are also very versatile for many styles of music. I am primarily a blues musician myself, but they work great for many other styles as well.

Comments about Dunlop Tortex Standard Guitar Picks:

Soft plastic, but not too soft, gives a fuller sound. You don't hear the pick hitting the strings like with hard plastics. I use the fat end of the pick to get a fuller sound. I play acoustic guitars.

Comments about Dunlop Tortex Standard Guitar Picks:

Great product by Jim Dunlop. The grip of the pick is great. The picks don't slide out of your hand like some brands. I have been using the 1.0mm picks for over a year now and I wouldn't change at all.

Comments about Dunlop Tortex Standard Guitar Picks:

I used to use the thin Fender Picks all the time. However they would deteriorate and snap in half some times and even sometimes I would end up dropping them into my guitar. So when I had first began playing I bought a pack of Dunlop 0.55mm picks. it was AMAZING. The picks are easy to grip, they're inexpensive, and they bend perfectly to the point where they will not break. If you have trouble with picks breaking and snapping, and have trouble with gripping your pick, then Dunlop is the way to go.

Comments about Dunlop Tortex Standard Guitar Picks:

These are great picks. Reading through the reviews, I have noticed that there are a few others that say that these picks don't sound good. I am willing to bet that the people who wrote those negative reviews were probably using the wrong width for their guitar. In general, the thinner picks will have a warmer sound. The thicker ones will be bit more twangy/trebly. So as a rule of thumb, if you are playing acoustic, or you are strumming your guit a lot, go with a thinner pick. I like the oranges. The reds are great as well. If you are playing lead guit and aren't strumming as much, go with a thicker yellow, green, or blue. Bass players should definitely go with purple.

If you use the wrong pick for your style of playing, of course they will sound bad! But I will say, there is a reason that you see these picks everywhere. They are simply the best.

Comments about Dunlop Tortex Standard Guitar Picks:

I've been playing guitar for a little over 23 years now. While I was learning to play, I used dozens of different picks trying to find one that worked well for me. After screwing around for a year or two my mentor handed me a .60MM Dunlop Tortex orange pick. It stays in my fingers better than any other pick I have ever used, it has the correct thickness for my style of playing, and they're inexpensive - not cheap. If your looking for the pick that suits you best, buy a few different thicknesses of the Tortex picks, you will not be dissapointed.
