Comments about Dunlop Super Bright Nickel Wound 8-String Electric Guitar Strings (9-74) 3-Pack:
After having tried Dunlop strings on one of my six strings and being quite impressed with their sound and longevity, I purchased these strings when it came time to restring my 8s. After receiving them I started to restring the high side. I finally came to the last string and as I put it on, I noticed there was a taper on the tuning peg side of the string, quite common with very thick gauge strings to aid in placing the string through the hole in the tuning peg. Imagine my disappointment and frustration when I found that the taper fell just in front of the nut. I have 4 Ibanez 8-string guitars, all of which are 27" scale or longer. It appears the low .74 string was made for a 25.5" scale, no more than that. So if you have an 8-string that is anything other than 25.5" scale, look elsewhere.
I did contact Dunlop and was told that they will probably start offering their 8-string packs with an "XL" .74 (which I am assuming has no taper) but they were not sure if that had been implemented yet. Bottom line, if the taper had not been present on the low string, these would have received 5 stars. But I am disappointed and quite frankly shocked that Dunlop seems to have no understanding that most 8-string guitars are a longer scale than 25.5". Hopefully Dunlop will get their act together and offer their string sets with the correct length of winding on it.
