Overview

The performance and sound of the new DigiTech Whammy Pedal with MIDI Control are reminiscent of the original red WH-1 Whammy. All the favorite whammy settings that guitar players covet are available again at the touch of a knob. Added is a new Dive Bomb effect, similar to that of a Floyd Rose whammy bar pushed all the way to the body of the guitar. Another new addition is a MIDI-in jack, allowing remote control of effects via MIDI devices. Both type and control are accomplished via MIDI program changes and CC messages respectively. Wet/Dry outputs are provided.

This pedal is absolutely GREAT for expreimental players. I personally use it to emulate Tom Morello-esque solos and riffs. But, it is great for any player who really wants to embellish their music with any cool/whimsy effects that this pedal can offer. The only thing I have to complain about is it's axis in the actual pedal. It is just a bit too tight and is hard to get long risen/dropped octave passages in your songs. All in all, a really great buy and very helpful for anyone out there who likes Rage Against the Machine or The White Stripes.

So I returned two of them and gave up, but still gave it 3 stars. It is a really neat pedal. The effects are great, and even the drop tune is useable. The first one I got, the pedal stuck and didn't move smoothly throughout the range of motion. I took it back, got another one, and no problems. Until it started not returning to the right tone. I recalibrated it (something Digitech provides good instructions for, but says shouldn't need to be done), and it worked great again. Until it needed to be recalibrated again. So after a couple times doing that, and having it work for a few days, I figured it wasn't worth fighting with it. So I took it back. But I was sad to see it go. If Digitech can work out some of the bugs with this pedal, I would consider getting another one in the future.

Nice, but can be problematic

By RochesterLoner

Comments about Digitech Whammy Pedal with MIDI Control:

I really enjoy using this pedal, but I must say that it can be hard to get things "right on" when doing pitch changes. If you set it to go up an octave, for instance, it can be hard to get it to go up EXACTLY an octave from heel to toe.

The Best Pedal I Own.

By Bob

Comments about Digitech Whammy Pedal with MIDI Control:

This is a great pedal. Actually, It's amazing! I've got 12 pedals, like flanger, phaser, distortion, delay, reverb, wah but this is the best! I use it all the time, I feel naked playing without my whammy. It's not a deifficult choice - Buy it! It's worth every cent!

Awesome

By Carl Hansen

Comments about Digitech Whammy Pedal with MIDI Control:

This is my new favorite pedal. I bought this about a week ago and I absolutely love it. Great for experimental players. Also fun for getting sounds from bands like rage against the machine/audioslave and the white stripes. It is just overall great. One mistake I did make was buy a wall adapter power supply for it. This particular one comes with one already. Oh well, I have a backup for it now. I think if this pedal was a little cheaper more people would own it

This Pedal. My Friend got one for christmas and he let me use it. I love that it has many wah-wah tones and that you can make a bomb sound. I recommend this and hope to get one soon.

Great Pedal... Worth the hefty price

By BdFlyDawg

Comments about Digitech Whammy Pedal with MIDI Control:

the title says it all. this is an excellent pedal for anyone that likes to play old van halen or other music where a whammy bar would be needed, but you dont want to have to worrry about the wammy bar screwing with your tuning. the main reason i bought this is because my band was going to cover audioslaves "like a stone." great pedal buy now.

experimental player's dream!

By Cjheagles

from carmel, IN

Comments about Digitech Whammy Pedal with MIDI Control:

Tom Morrello really revolutionized the way guitars can play with this pedal. You can get his sounds with this baby right here. Being a gibson owner i dont have a whammy bar but i dont need one now that i have this. It gets some sweet sounds with note-bending, etc. But, my personal favorite is the drop-tune function. It is a quick and easy way to tune down to Eb and D. Bottom line, if you want to play Rage against the machine/audioslave this pedal is a must. Worth the hefty price!

this is the most interesting petal i have. i love adding the harmony setting in my solos. my one tip is add your distortion before this otherwise it will mess with the pitch.

amazing!...but one thing

By smith

from id,nampa

Comments about Digitech Whammy Pedal with MIDI Control:

this pedal is an amazing addition to a pedal board. it sounds even better running through a Bad Monkey. it takes up a little more room then a wah-wah but other then that its awsome. the thing is...it may have a metal enclosure but dont stomp it to hard. the electronics and the laser reader inside have an attendancey to get jumbled and sometimes kill all other effects being used. when this happens it also takes down your volume by about 75%. great for fans of Tom Morello and Jack White. this is a MUST BUY pedal.

Originally Not The Biggest Fan

By David

from Midland, MI

Comments about Digitech Whammy Pedal with MIDI Control:

Let me preface this review with the fact that first and foremost I don't like too much 80's music. That being said, I do like the bands most have mentioned here. Rage, Audioslave, Radiohead, The White Stripes, and on and on. So I decided to buy this little guy the other day after very briefly trying it out. I was immediately floored by how easy it was to use, and to make sound good. Not to mention IMMEDIATELY recordable. Most of the draw backs that people seem to mention about it, is that its hard to get the 'just right' sound they want. Well I don't think that is a problem with the machine, more a problem with the musician. If you know very basic music theory, you'll know how to set the melodies to sound pleasing, almost instantly. Another reason I bought this, is cause I own a few guitars that are stoptails, and need to be able to play any of my songs with any of my guitars, and some have solos using the whammy, so this pedal makes sure I can do that across all my guitars. It has been a huge hit with everyone I've shown it to. The price is often scary to some, but if you have the money, its well worth it. The only 'problem' I had, was I had to recalibrate the pedal when I first bought it. But this really wasn't a problem at all, it took about 30 seconds and then sounded awesome again. All in all, this is one of those rare pedals for me, that INSPIRES me to play something... And I love it!

Pedal broke after 5 weeks

By Max Gunther

from Nashville TN

Comments about Digitech Whammy Pedal with MIDI Control:

Sounded good initially for what I wanted which was just an octave down sound but then only a few weeks after I bought it new the calibration on the pedal came off an then instead of being an octave down, it now only sounds permanently detuned. I'm going to just buy a regular octave pedal. Also, I agree that the other effects sound very digital, grating, squeaky and not musical. Pedal could be very cool if A) they fix the pedal motion part and make it more sturdy. B) get the annoying digital sound out of the harmonies.

can be problematic

By Biggy

from Washington, D.C.

Comments about Digitech Whammy Pedal with MIDI Control:

I got this thing mainly to mess around with songs that I knew it was used in like "Becoming" by Pantera. It worked flawlessly for a good year and I even incorporated the slight detune function as my chorus which saved me buying another pedal. There is only one flaw. I've now had it for 2 years and I now have to slam the heel portion of the expression pedal down to the frame to get to my original pitch. I realize that I could probably take it apart and fix it easily but I really was expecting this problem to occur much later and after much more abuse. I mean this is supposed to be a professional pedal right? Either way I'm solving the problem by having a completely midi controlled rig so if an expression pedal goes down its not another $200 out of my pocket.

The one and only

By Jon

from Fairfax, Virgina

Comments about Digitech Whammy Pedal with MIDI Control:

In my opinion this is the only octave pedal worth paying for. It has so many features that are easily manipulated with the flick of your foot. It is also an incredibly simple pedal to use too. Chorus, Harmonizing, Dive Bombs, Drop Tuning, and of course the Octave manipulator (or Whammy as it is more commonly known). The only slight problem is that it is difficult to accurately change effects on the fly. Worth every penny.

Disappointing

By Erik

from Mckinney, TX

Comments about Digitech Whammy Pedal with MIDI Control:

I went out and got this pedal, came home excited to try it out, having listened to The White Stripes and Rage against the machine, and was sorely disappointed. The octave only sounds good on one octave down and high is just annoying. The de-tune does barely anything. If you you want your guitar to sound like you don't know how to tune it, it could be the sound your going for, though. What ''tweaking'' is all the other reviews talking about? It is very hard to tweak. If you want a decent pedal, You should invest in an Electro- Harmonix. I am currently waiting on a Q-tron in the mail.

Sweet pedal

By Alex

from Boone, NC

Comments about Digitech Whammy Pedal with MIDI Control:

As a Gibson user, it's tough to get around the issue of having a stop-bar tail peace. Not any longer though, with the whammy pedal's great functionality I can now warp feedback and tuning like I could with, you guessed it, a whammy bar. The pedal tracks well, the octave up feature is mind-blindingly awesome (though the octave down seems pretty useless). Obviously a unique pedal, since it's the only one of its kind. A good buy for alternative musicians, and it can even liven up a more retro sound (as Jack White does).

Digitech Whammy

By zachpw91

Comments about Digitech Whammy Pedal with MIDI Control:

This is the best whammy pedal I've ever heard! The settings can be used to make your guitar extra high for those crazy lead guitar parts, or make it low like a bass to play the bass part in a song if you are in a two peice band (drums and guitar). The controls are increibly versatile. I recomend this pedal for anyone serious about guitar.

Whammy

By Steve

from NJ

Comments about Digitech Whammy Pedal with MIDI Control:

This is the most creative pedal you'll find. You won't find a problem with its tracking either. Lots of cool features, harmonizer, detune (chorus-like effect), and the famous whammy features. Some people think the original is the best, the original just sounds alittle more natural, not only that, it'll cost you at least $400+. The whammy IV can also be controlled via midi. If you're like me and want to be able to change between the features without even bending down, as long as you have a midi controller it'll work perfectly. You won't find anything like the whammy.
