Old school Recording Engineer / Musician
Bought the original Trio. And I have to say the Trio plus is well worth the extra $$
The SD cards I will get some more ive had this a month and have used it little but already have 10 songs programmed. 12 songs per 8 gig card. Makes no sence getting a larger card it holds and stores its max on a 8 gig card so stock up and with the 5 parts sequence it will be fine for most basic songs. Digitech did a great job on this but id like to see more parts like 10 and the volume controls would be nice on the bass, drums & your loop if you could actively them in the recorded parts without changing all. As they say keep the bass & Drums around 10 o'clock. Having the SD card for me is a needed add on over the first Trio as is the looper with the 5 parts you can record into. Ive found that ive needed to record not full measures on some parts to break up my songs and other times added more than a measure depending. You can always sequence in the extra tmes you need to. The other thing ive found is if you do want to play live with it you might just want to record the parts and click to the parts needed instead of sequencing the entire song due to you may want it differently live and you can add the cha goes needed. All in all. Im practicing with a clue of different groups and doing my own thi g and one of my buddies also has tbe plus and I think I might just duplicate the sd cards so we are going over the sa.e songs.. ha is not really use to his as of yet but to tell you the truth this thing is EZ as can be. Be sure to connect the guitar to your amp and mixer to a pa or yo u will not be e happy with the sound. I use the headphones ally when im putti g songs together. Im now finding it much quicker and no amp needed. Perfect fo r the road. I will never travel without it.
Love the thing. Peace!!!
Rock on!!!

Some nice additions (looper was the most obvious)

By Joe's Guitar Music

from Valdese, NC

Pros

  • Comes with micro SD card for storing songs
  • Effects loop allows looper layers w/different FX
  • More genres than the original TRIO
  • Up to 5 song parts can be saved for each song

Cons

  • Downloading & reading full manual is a MUST!
  • FX Loop creates feedback with some amps

Best Uses

  • Jamming
  • Songwriting

Comments about DigiTech Trio+ Band Creator Plus Looper Guitar Effects Pedal:

I absolutely LOVED the original TRIO. When I heard about the TRIO+ with a built-in looper, I was stoked! Unfortunately, the pedal's FX loop is not compatible with my Fender Mustang III (v1) FX Send / Return loop and causes feedback. The TRIO's FX loop has to be used with external effects pedals or a pedalboard. This won't be an issue for most folks with external pedals or pedalboards, but if you are like me and are just a songwriter and not really a performer, you may not need or want all those external gadgets. I can dial up ever tone and effect I'll ever need using my amp, so I really wanted to make the TRIO+ looper work with my amp (my Ditto Looper works fine with it).

I found a workaround by using external amplified studio monitor speakers with a 1/4" input. The bass & drums output from the TRIO goes to my bass amp, the TRIO's guitar out goes to some amplified studio monitor speakers, the TRIO's FX Send goes to my Fender Mustang III's normal guitar input and the Mustang III's FX Send goes to the TRIO's FX Return input. That is the only way I was able to get the looper work correctly with the Mustang III. Using this hookup, the looper layers are recorded with whatever effect I have active on the amp when I'm recording the layer and not effected by things like lead overdrive effects when they are played back while I'm playing lead.

Comments about DigiTech Trio+ Band Creator Plus Looper Guitar Effects Pedal:

i have the original trio and was excited when this was released but its not as good as the original trio the drums are horrible and the cymbals are worse and it has the simple bass button it gives you a bassline so simple it sounds like a beginner drummer taking lessons and the regular bass line is unusable most of the time too i have had it almost 2 weeks and i plan on returning it this week

Meets Expectations

By Jeremyallengtr

from Florida

Pros

  • Features
  • Intuitive
  • Lots of bass and drum grooves
  • Sound quality......split amp and PA
  • Super fun jams

Cons

  • could be difficult to use all the features live
  • Have to run it through PA to get the best sound
  • Some tone loss

Best Uses

  • Improv during gig after learning device
  • Practice

Comments about DigiTech Trio+ Band Creator Plus Looper Guitar Effects Pedal:

This pedal is all around fun. To get the best tone from bass and drums, I ran it through a full PA.....two Alto 12's and 15in sub that I have set up at all times in my studio. If you are just running through a guitar cab this is going to sound really bad; run out to a mixer, PA and amp for the best tone. There is some slight guitar tone loss; that is to say, you will loose some sparkle from your amp, If you have a low end amp this may be an issue. To get around the slight guitar tone loss, turn up the gain or use a clean boost pedal to fatten up the mix. The slight guitar tone loss is forgivable because of all the fun this pedal allows ( I never thought I'd say something like that). I couldn't stop laughing because I was amazed by what this pedal can do, it's inspiring for sure.

Comments about DigiTech Trio+ Band Creator Plus Looper Guitar Effects Pedal:

Fairly quick and easy to teach for most tunes. Decent selection of genres/styles. Have only gigged with it 3 times in a duo, but it has worked very well. Can't speak to the looper, since I've only used it for bass and drums.

5 tune parts is fine for maybe 80% of the tunes I've tried. For the other 20%, I either needed to change the arrangement, or consolidate parts to squeeze them into 5, which has mostly worked, but of course you're stuck with one style over each part. It would be a nice firmware upgrade to double this to 10 parts by using another button as a part toggle.

About half the time, I've had to pluck simplified chords each quarter note throughout a part to get it to understand where to switch the bass notes at the right time. Strangely, I've had to do this more on simple tunes than complex ones.

The ability to change the temp is nice. However, the knob does not have a very strong detent in the middle position. When you set the pedal up on stage (in fact every time you move it), you'll need to double check that it's centered, because most likely it no longer is. It would be nice in a futire upgrade, if you could change the tempo, and resave it. Since it can't do this, I've had to re-teach several tunes because I wasn't careful enough with my tempo when I recorded. I've resorted to getting out the dreaded metronome for teaching new tunes now.

It would be really nice to have a firmware upgrade to toggle the tempo knob to make it double as a pitch knob. My duo partner has already wanted me to change the key on a few tunes, which currently means reteaching the tune from scratch.

Several people have complained about the quality of the styles, but I think they're fine, even for gigging. The bass and drums sound more human than computer generated to me. I've been a band in a box user since the '80s MSDOS (pre-windows) version, so I'm mostly used to the way it does things.

I think this pedal is the best option for making "backing tracks" quickly

Comments about DigiTech Trio+ Band Creator Plus Looper Guitar Effects Pedal:

This is my first effect pedal purchase, and I am very pleased with how easy it is to use this pedal. I don't have an electric guitar yet, but I have plugged in my Casio CDP-130 keyboard, my Yamaha acoustic guitar, and one of my mics for vocals and they all work with the looper and back up band feature, which was huge for me since I thought it worked with guitar only. I like that this pedal has a few more features than the original Trio Band Creator, and I love to use the pedal whenever I am practicing on my own. I love that there are volume knobs for bass and drums so you can choose what you want played back when you teach the pedal the song you're playing. The only thing I wish they could've added would be some kind of tempo meter so you could have a more precise tempo marking instead of just having a knob to turn to make it slower or faster. Otherwise a great pedal!

Comments about DigiTech Trio+ Band Creator Plus Looper Guitar Effects Pedal:

This thing looks complicated but is very easy to use right out of the box. Playing to a metronome or click track is necessary to advance your skill and develop your sense of rythm, it is also boring. This pedal replaces the click click click of a metronome with drums and bass that follow along with you!

Teach it a song with up to 5 different sections, select a genre and a style within that genre and viola, a backing band that will pkay along with you forever.

I doubt anyone is going to record an album with this thing but I could see using it for solo gigs. It can store several songs on the included memory card and you can have as many memory cards as you want. Where the Digitech Trio+ shines though, is as a practice tool. It is much more fun to play along with a band than with a metronome.

The one thing I would recommend is to run the output to a seperate amp from your guitar. Sound can get muddy running your guitar and backing track through the same speaker.

It isnt perfect but if you are looking for domething that will inspire creativity and make practice fun, this is a great investment.

Comments about DigiTech Trio+ Band Creator Plus Looper Guitar Effects Pedal:

The Trio+ is an excellent tool for developing and enhancing melody and soloing skills. It is very easy to create a drum and bass accompaniment on the fly to fit a variety of musical genres and style preferences. The built-in looper allows for the additional layering of rhythm and other guitar patterns, in synch with the drums and bass, providing the ability to create a rich, full backing track. Tempo can be easily changed, and the volume for the drums, bass and looper track can be separately adjusted to suite your tastes. With the "band" playing behind you, the practicing of solos and melodies is both effective and enjoyable. Everything sounds much more musical, and gets close to the feeling of practicing and playing with others. Although nothing can truly replace the benefits and experience of jamming with other musicians, the Trio+ goes quite a long way towards replicating an environment that takes practices to a higher level … and the "band" never gets tired! There is much more to say regarding features and capabilities, particularly related to input and output options, but you can read more about these features in the specifications for the device. There are also a variety of YouTube videos that do a nice job showing the capabilities of this device. I also own a Ditto, and purchased the original Trio when it was first introduced. The Trio+ combines both devices into one … it has become my number one go to tool for practice and fun, taking loopers and drum machines to a higher level!

The Trio+ Looper is great for teaching, learning and practicing. If you're Uber experienced with the device, you could even take your solo act on the road - or down to your nearest coffee house jam. I can easily imagine this technology growing and getting even smarter. This thing is brilliant. It does have some limitations, but overall worth the price! You can build parts and play along endlessly without the bass and drums ever getting sick of your endless, face-melting solos. It's addicting, this little toy.

Comments about DigiTech Trio+ Band Creator Plus Looper Guitar Effects Pedal:

I have 3 loopers and a drum machine. I wanted to have something that would be portable and give some decent backing without having to program a drum machine. The Trio Plus has fit the bill. I usually play at the Farmer's Market and other informal gigs. In the first week of using the Trio Plus, I have already filled up one card with 12 usable songs. Since I have had some experience with loopers I found it pretty easy to use. I was impressed with the sound quality of the drums and bass through my Fender guitar amp. I also have a Roland keyboard amp that sounds really good. The FX loop allows me to plug in my pedal board and faithfully reproduces the tones. I tried the original Trio and was not impressed, but this unit is WAY better. If you have no looper experience, i would suggest you first try just the looping function to get your timing tight and then try a simple chord progression (Major, Minor or Seventh chords only) with a small number of bars at first. The machine needs to see a simplified chord structure to get a good drum and bass result. The only 2 downsides I have found is that there is not stereo output / input and you will have to manually document the card contents or take a computer to the gig. On the plus side, I used a cheap 8 gig micro card and it works just fine.

Peace!!!

This is a great product with a bad power supply. Mine was incredibly noisy until a replaced the power brick that came with it with a Line 6 power supply. Very quiet now. Would have scored higher but for this.

Great practice tool! The ability to save loops is a nice added plus. The software to manage the SD card is not online yet, but the added styles, features and the looper improve it over the Trio and it is a lot of fun to use.

Love the Trio +. I did not have much experience with using loopers in the past. Only took about an hour of tinkering, and I had my own song and backing tracks to play over. Great job Digitech!

Comments about DigiTech Trio+ Band Creator Plus Looper Guitar Effects Pedal:

Listen, friends, there are a lot of negative comments about the Trio Plus in some online reviews. Learn how to use it before you post negative comments. I do not work for Digitech or Guitar Center. But I have been a gigging musician of 50 years. I play in a full band and a solo act as well. The Digitech Trio is a phenomenal piece of gear. It took a few days to figure out all the possibilities but it was well worth the time spent getting acclimated to it. I have been sequencing on keyboards since sequencing was invented, and sequenced well over 3000 songs and hundreds more for others. This Trio Plus is the easiest of all my gear to work with. Many say it can't be used in live applications. Sure it can. I use it every week. And not just simple basic lines, I have songs like Crossroads, (Clapton), Call Me The Breeze, (Skynyrd) Communication Breakdown (Zep), well you get the point, sequenced in this. 12 songs per micro SD card is equal to more than a full set of music, so for all night gigs, I have 4 or 5 cards already programed, just pop a new one in between sets and the next hour is ready to gig. It IS capable of complex progressions which sound darn near the originals. It is dynamic in its response, has a great sound through a full range PA system or a Bose Compact. My solo gigs are soaring to new heights, and the audience response is better than ever. The quick start guide is lame, I admit, so be sure to download the manual. But even that is weak. Take your time and learn how to set it up. I am now sequencing whole songs and tweaking them in less than 10 minutes. And if you download the Trio Manager (its free online from Digitech) you can back up your work easily, and move songs to new cards to change things up for gigs. I honestly don't understand people who post negative stuff about new gear before they really learn it. I am so thrilled with this that I am buying another just as a backup before my next gig. Seriously, if you love playing out, learn it and use it.

Sales rep had no clue how to use it. I guess I'll need to go back to the store and teach him. Haha.
