Not being the youngest guy on the block and understanding all of this new computer recording and overdubing. I needed something that an old 54 year old rocker could understand and be user friendly. The first loop station I bought was the Boss RC-20 and it is a good one but only allowed a few miniutes of playing. Then, Digitech comes out with this JamMan loop station, and with a 2gb card you can get up to six hours of recording (WOW). I just bought a 1gb card and that gives me 3.5 hours which is plenty enough for me. What the JamMan has that the boss doesn't. The JamMan has a USB port to send your music right to your computer. The mike input is not just a quarter inch jack, but a real input. I can overdub 99 times with this loop station. I needed something that would allow me to play enven if it was by myself. I have a Yamaha S03 Synth which gives me my bass sounds, organ, piano, and hundres of other sounds. I will lay down a rhythm pattern, then use my digitech RP200 foot pedal for the drums, lay down the bass with the synth, and anything else that comes to my head. Start it playing and just kick out the jams. The good part about the USB cable, you can put it on the computer, then make a CD out of it. This is a great product and will improve the way you play. in order to get other sounds besides the guitar. Of course you would need to invest in a digitech foot pedal with drums and some kind of Synth. Nevertheless, if you just want to lay down a rhythm rif, then come behind it and play lead. No problem at all. Highly recommend this JamMan loop station.
Just bought the unit and started playing with it. Sound is great, love the built in features. But this unit, as well as the comparable Boss model lack an important feature. Say you'd like to use your guitar pickup to do a drum loop for starters, say 8 seconds. Your overdubbing is very, very short. 8 seconds again. It's not in a separate memory space where it loops for ya and you can overdub till the memory's gone. Your first loop controls how long the others are. I find this rather poor.
I have had the Jam Man for about 9 months and it is still my favorite piece of gear that I own (besides my Guitar). The greatest thing it has done for my playing is boost my creativity. Everytime I turn it on I come up with new ideas for songs. I really like the fact that it connects to my computer. Although I would not recommend using it to record a CD, I reallly like to use it as sort of like a notepad for songs and see what I can do with them on the Computer. Overall the construction is great, the features are great and I would recommend it to anyone that has ever had a slump in creativity or needed a guitar partner when no one is around.
I've owned the DigiTech JamMan Looper Pedal for about a year. It is a great learning tool. You can easily plug in your CD player/iPOD and record entire songs or small clips. It's easy to loop and work on small sections. The main complaint I have is that it significantly changes the tone with the amp I have (Reverend Goblin). The effect is even more pronounced with other pedals in the chain.
Wow, what a great tool. I took 2 days to study the manual, and then an afternoon for experiments. I tried most everything to familiarize myself with the unit. I worked on finger picking and some vocals. I also plugged in a MP3 player, stored the song, and played along with the Kingston Trio. I'm so glad I bought this. I highly recommend The JamMan. Being able to save your work and review it, save other instruments and vocals to practice with repeatedly is great.
Normally I would take a Boss pedal over digitech just because thats my personal preference. However not in this case, my friend got the Boss version and I have the Digitech Jam man. After we tried them out we both decided that the Jam man was much better. You can change the tempo of your loops, although I wont use that feature live it helps a lot when writing and learning other songs. I just hook up my iPOD and create a loop of the riff I want to learn then slow down the tempo so I can get it down before I play it at full speed. When it comes to playing live the FS3X Footswitch is amazing, I don't have to keep erasing and re-recording loops. Overall I would say that this looper is far superior to the Boss Loop Station.
I chose the Digitech over the Boss due to its ability to save data on compact flash cards, and download onto my computer. Very handy! The unit itself is easy to use; no steep learning curve. Plus it seems to be well constructed, it has CD quality sound coming out of it. Highly recommended.
I just got this pedal for Christmas and man it is revolutionary for me. This thing records and plays back with incredible ease and fluidity. There are so many features as well, none of which I see as useless tack ons by the company. A great buy and I recommend. 5 Stars.
I work mostly in hip-hop and I involve lots of live instruments in my tracks (both electric and acoustic). I have access to many skilled musicians on a regular basis. I was really looking for a way to productively involve all of them into the songwriting process, kind of like how a band has creative jam sessions. This is where the pedal really helps me. I put my buddy who's good with the keys on my triton, my brother picks his martin acoustic, my sister sings and plays her violin, and I play bass guitar and work the pedal while I incorporate any samples that I have on my roland. These aren't finished tracks but they sound great and give us all confidence to keep going. And with 99 loops, you can go forever, we've had sessions that have seen the production of 30 plus loops, which would be impossible on the boss looper. Also, I like that you can listen to the looper through headphones, unlike the boss looper. This product is awesome for what I use it for. Highly recommended.
I bought this pedal a year ago and it's simply amazing. For once you can acualy hear your self playing to see how good you sound an what you need to fix. the only one problem with the pedal is the over dubing feater is hard to use and gets realy anoying some times. i would recomend this to anyone wanting to get beter at the insterment they play.
