I bought these in a bind to get some tracking done for a friend's band and was surprised at what we ended up with. I ran the overheads through a Behringer T1953 and got such a full and crisp sound I didn't even need to mic the toms. Also top and bottom mic'd the snare with great results. The only downfall is the kick mic. It was very dead sounding, but I had an Audix D6, so it didn't matter. Overall, I'm very pleased to get a $1000 sound from $200 worth of mics!

Not bad at all

By Andrew Naples

Comments about Digital Reference DR-DRM7 7-Piece Drum Microphone Kit with Case:

I am going to give these mics 4 stars because for the price, your really can't do any better. PROS: the included condensers are amazing. truly are the absolute highlight of this kit! the mics are all well built and produce great sounds. Make sure your kit is tuned for studio use and not for your ears when you mic them up. what the mics pick up and what your ears pick up are two separate things. So what i do is i wear NASCAR racing headphones while i tune. its a close resemblance to what the mics will hear. The kick mic isn't the best in the world but after a few minutes of positioning EQing and fine tuning, i like to brag that my bass sounds like ...And Justice For All! CONS: i Will admit that the included clamps are by far not the best. They do their job well however. Make sure you don't go past the first notch. they will break. Also make sure they are warm first or they will snap when attached. They do like to pinch you when you put them on the rim too. i would have liked for one of the 4 tom/snare mics to have been a dedicated snare mic. they are ok for snares but could be much better if one was strictly for snares I've used these already for some studio recordings. They sound great. If you are looking to make studio quality recordings on a budget. these are your mics.

More than what I had hoped for!

By JImmy Mac

Comments about Digital Reference DR-DRM7 7-Piece Drum Microphone Kit with Case:

I've got a small recording studio that needed a lot of power for the drums. I saw these on line and figured that if bad came to worse, I could always "EQ" or add effects for whatever they lacked. Was I ever surprised! The condenser mics are so sensitive that if the AC came on in the room, I could hear it blow past them! The mounts are great. They're sturdy and there's no slack in them keeping them in place - even when Jared (who swings on a tire) pounds on the skins! The kick delivers PUNCH! (Be sure you have a compressor/limiter when recording). I could have spent more - but why? These DR's deliver.

Good for the price!

By RSV

Comments about Digital Reference DR-DRM7 7-Piece Drum Microphone Kit with Case:

Hello everyone, I bought these microphones, because of the price, probably like the rest of you did! In my opinion I think these are very good drum mics for the price. Lets start with the good and bad points of each mic in this pack. Snare/Tom Mics - They are very good at capturing a good sound, but they will need some compression and EQ. Overheads - I really think these are awesome microphones. They pick up the cymbals really well and are also very good for acoustic instruments as well! Bass Drum Mic - This microphone is good, but is much better for the floor tom as it picks up the low end better. It does work with the bass drum but it needs A LOT of EQ and compression to make it sound good. It would be better buying a separate bass drum microphone. Although the mics are good, there are some bad points. The drum clips provided are absolutely rubbish. They attach to the side of your rim just about, but if your a hard player they will fall off your rim. You'll be better off buying better drum clips or microphone stands. An up point is that it comes with a flight case, which is actually really durable. Overall, I think these microphones are good and I really would recommend them to anyone who has a home studio or for live sound.

Comments about Digital Reference DR-DRM7 7-Piece Drum Microphone Kit with Case:

I went into guitar center today and was planning on buying the CAD Pro-7 Drum microphones, and turned out they didnt have them so i got these microphones. and i went home and hooked them up to my drums and put 1 condencer next to my hi-hat and the other one near my ride and a crash. i also have 2 other seperate condencer microphones so i helps. but the microphones give a really good sound after you tune them correctly(ajust eq and volumes). im very happy with my purchase. i recomend them

Awesome Mics!

By Zahr Ian

from California

Comments about Digital Reference DR-DRM7 7-Piece Drum Microphone Kit with Case:

These mics are absolutely perfect for anyone on a budget but still needs function and quality. i have a double bass kit, with two snares, 3 mounted toms, and 2 floor toms, so i got two packs of these, and they are amazing! I get beautiful response from the snares and toms, and the condenser mics a great for cymbals, especially if you place them a ways away from the cymbals. The atmosphere is incredible. I use acoustic triggers for the basses, so i placed the two kik mics on my floor toms, and it sounds incredible! Buy these mics! they are superb microphones.

Great

By Charles J Mizikar IV

from Portage, MI

Comments about Digital Reference DR-DRM7 7-Piece Drum Microphone Kit with Case:

I took this set and ran it through a Yamaha M7CL. Overheads were fairly decent. The snare and tom mics had a very crisp, clean sound to them. When compared to the '57, surprisingly it was close enough in sound that we can use our 57s elsewhere. Also note the STX1 was a little less sensitive than the 57. As for the kick drum mic, it did sound very dead and I think I'll stick with a condenser on our kick drum. I think the main issue with the KX1 was that it has a relatively small diaphragm for a kick mic. If you have another $50 or so, get a cheap condenser like the MXL 990 or the Nady DM-90 both'll give you a little bit more punch.

Worth the cash...

By keith feulner, DISARRAY

Comments about Digital Reference DR-DRM7 7-Piece Drum Microphone Kit with Case:

as stated, worth the money. i tracked a pre pro demo for our 6th album with these and good crisp overheads, dw toms were picked up perfect with lows and attack. the bass need alot of eq to get a decent sound. but still we did not gog the bass drum. only the snare and we used 2 sm57s for it! here what i suggest, use the overheads as they are super, use the tom mics for racks and bottom of snare, use the kick mic for floor tom, and spend the cash on a correct kick mic and sm57 for top of snare. this is as professional as youll get for the money. very pleased with this mic kit though. keith, DISARRAY

Worth the money

By Gauin Moore

from Federal Way, WA

Comments about Digital Reference DR-DRM7 7-Piece Drum Microphone Kit with Case:

I just purchased this set and was really happy with the sound they produced. We ran them through a Behringer SL2442FX-PRO and I've never heard my TAMA Kit sound so good. Easy to set up and get dialed in. They really picked up my snare and toms. The kick needed a little bit more volume, but this was easy to do with the mixer. Overall for the money they were well worth it.
